Nestled in Kulapully, near Shoranur in Palakkad district, Kerala, this historic temple venerates Lord Krishna—revered here as Gadadhara Navaneetha Krishnan (Krishna holding the mace and buttermilk patra), affectionately known as Hrudaya Nivasi (“he who dwells in the heart”) .

Mythological Significance & History

Ancient Origins: Astrologically estimated to be over 3,000 years old.
13th Century Reconstruction: Rebuilt by Pandya King Maravarman Sundara Pandyan, who ruled the region after defeating the Cholas .
Destruction & Revival: The temple was destroyed during Tipu Sultan’s invasion of Malabar in the 18th century. It lay in ruins until Shri Erangodath Prasanna Kumar rediscovered and rebuilt it, completing the Kumbabhishekam on 29 April 2007 .

The existing temple reflects traditional Kerala architecture—sloping tiled roofs and wood craftsmanship (inferred from regional style and images). The idol’s presentation suggests historic antiquity blended with modern reconstruction.

By Road: Located on Kanayam Road, Kulapully (Shoranur–Palakkad highway corridor). Easy reach via local buses, autos, or private vehicles .

By Train: Closest major station is Shoranur Junction; easier access than Palakkad.

By Air: Nearest airport is Cochin International Airport, ~120 km via road.
