The Sri Ardhagiri Veeranjaneya Swamy Temple is a famous shrine dedicated to Lord Hanuman, located at Ardhagiri hill in Aragonda village, Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh. The word Ardhagiri means “half mountain,” referring to a legend connected to the Sanjeevani hill from the Ramayana

(Om Hanumate Namah)
Extended Chant:
ॐ श्री वीरांजनयाय नमः
(Om Shri Veeranjanayaya Namah)

― Sri Ardhagiri Veeranjaneya Swamy Temple

Devotees believe that Goddess Gangamma is a powerful protector who fulfills the wishes of those who pray with devotion.

Mythological Significance & History

According to the Ramayana, when Lord Hanuman carried the Sanjeevani hill to save Lakshmana, a part of it (ardha giri) is believed to have fallen here in Chittoor district. Since then, the place has been considered sacred. Over time, a temple was built on this hill in reverence to Lord Hanuman, worshipped here as Veeranjaneya Swamy (the courageous Hanuman). Devotees strongly believe that this is one of the most powerful places where Lord Hanuman continues to bless his followers.

Significance of the Temple

Devotees believe that the sacred pond water (Theertham) near the temple cures skin diseases, removes negative energies, and promotes good health.
It is said that taking a dip in the holy pond and praying to Lord Hanuman fulfills wishes.
Special poojas are conducted on Saturdays, Amavasya (New Moon day), and Hanuman Jayanti.
Pilgrims also climb the steps of the Ardhagiri hill as an act of devotion.

Architecture of the Temple

The temple has a traditional Dravidian style structure with a gopuram and sanctum. The main idol of Lord Hanuman is in a standing posture, holding a mace (gada), symbolizing valor and strength. The temple is surrounded by natural scenic beauty, with a sacred pond nearby where devotees perform rituals. The combination of divinity and nature gives the temple a serene and powerful atmosphere.
