― Shirdi Sai Baba Temple

Devotees from across the globe visit this temple seeking blessings, peace, and spiritual solace.

Mythological Significance & History

Sai Baba arrived in Shirdi around 1858 and lived a simple life of meditation, preaching love, compassion, and unity among all religions. He attained Mahasamadhi (left his mortal body) in 1918.
The temple was built in 1922 by Shreemant Gopalrao Buti, a rich devotee from Nagpur. Originally intended as a residence for Baba, it became his final resting place and was transformed into a temple after his death.

Significance of the Temple

The temple holds the Samadhi (tomb) of Sai Baba and is the main place of worship.
It represents unity of religions, as Sai Baba preached equality and devotion beyond caste, creed, or faith.
Millions of devotees visit yearly, especially during festivals like Ram Navami, Guru Purnima, and Vijayadashami (Sai Baba’s Punyatithi).
The temple trust runs free meals (prasad), hospitals, educational institutes, and accommodation for pilgrims.

Architecture of the Temple

The temple is built in white marble and showcases a blend of Mughal and Maratha architectural styles.

The Samadhi Mandir features an ornate silver railing and a life-sized marble idol of Sai Baba seated on a throne.

There are separate halls for darshan, meditation, and queue arrangements.

The complex includes Dwarkamai (the mosque where Baba lived), Chavadi, Gurusthan, Lendi Baug, and the museum displaying Baba’s belongings.
