The Ramatheertham Temple is one of the most ancient and sacred temples of Andhra Pradesh, located near Vizianagaram, about 12 km from the city. According to legend, Lord Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana are believed to have stayed here during their exile (Vanavas), which gave the site its name Ramatheertham.
The temple was patronized by several dynasties including the Eastern Ganga kings and the Vijayanagara rulers.
