Mythological Significance & History

The temple was built by Jiva Goswami, the nephew of Rupa Goswami, under the instructions of Lord Chaitanya.
Jiva Goswami personally carved and installed the original Radha-Damodar deities in this temple.
This temple served as the residence of many Vaishnava acharyas, including Srila Prabhupada, the founder of ISKCON, before he went to the West.
The Bhajan Kutir (meditation hut) of Rupa Goswami still exists in the temple courtyard.
