Maa Bamleshwari Devi Mandir

The Maa Bamleshwari Devi Temple, also called Bambleshwari Temple, is perched atop a hillock (about 1,600 feet high) in Dongargarh, Rajnandgaon district, Chhattisgarh. The main shrine is known as Badi Bamleshwari; a smaller temple at the foothill is called Choti Bamleshwari.

Believed to be around 2,200 years old, the temple is linked to King Veersen, who is said to have built it after divine intervention led to the birth of his child. Dongargarh was historically revered as Kamakhya Nagari, with Bamleshwari identified as Bagalamukhi Devi, one of the Mahavidyas.

During Chaitra and Sharadiya Navratris, massive fairs are held and large crowds gather to participate in Jyoti Kalash ceremonies and receive blessings.

Architecture of the Temple

The temple is built in the Nagara style, featuring a prominent Shikhara, a mandapa supported by decorative pillars, and elaborate carvings.

It is encircled by lush hills, water bodies, and natural beauty, creating a divine setting.

How to Reach to Temple

By Train: Arrive at Dongargarh Railway Station, situated on the Howrah–Mumbai main line, and just ~2 km from the base of the temple hill.

By Road: Dongargarh is approximately 35–40 km from Rajnandgaon and around 100 km from Raipur, accessible via NH-6/NH-53. Frequent buses and taxis are available.

By Air: Raipur Airport, about 110 km away, is the nearest air link.
