― Kukke Subramanya Temple

The temple is dedicated to Lord Subramanya (Karttikeya), worshipped here as the Lord of all serpents—often in union with the serpent king Vasuki

Mythological Significance & History

This temple is traditionally listed among the seven sacred Mukti Kshetras established by Saint Parashurama.Legend recounts that Lord Subramanya protected Vasuki from Garuda at this sacred spot, and later married Devasena, daughter of Indra, on nearby Kumara Parvatha.
The temple’s rituals adhere to Madhvacharya’s Tantra Sara Sangraha, and services are conducted by Shivalli Madhwa Brahmins.

Significance of the Temple

The temple is particularly known for snake-related rituals such as Sarpa Samskara, Ashlesha Bali, Nagaprathishta, and others that remove Naga Doshas.
The Kumaradhara River is believed to cure skin ailments, and bathing in its waters is considered spiritually and medically beneficial.

Architecture of the Temple

Kukke Subramanya Temple exemplifies Dravidian architectural style, featuring a prominent gopuram (tower), and a layout that includes a main sanctum, upper dais with deities, and a silver-covered Garuda pillar used for circumambulation to protect devotees from Vasuki’s “poisonous flames”.
Inside the sanctum, Lord Subramanya is flanked by Vasuki above and Shesha slightly lower
