Komuravelli Mallanna Temple

The Komuravelli Mallanna Temple is a revered Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva in his form as Mallikarjuna Swamy (Mallanna). Located atop the Indrakeeladri hill in Komuravelli village, Siddipet district, Telangana, it features the main deity alongside his consorts—Golla Kethamma, Goddess Ganga, and Medalamma (Parvati).

“मल्लन्ना के दर पर आता है, वो खाली नहीं जाता – क्योंकि वहाँ श्रद्धा खुद आशीर्वाद बन जाती है।”

― Komuravelli Mallanna Temple

The temple is approximately 85 km from Hyderabad, situated along the Rajiv Rahadari (SH‑1) highway.

Mythological Significance & History

There are no written records of the temple’s origins; instead, its rich past is preserved through Oggu Katha, a traditional oral storytelling form. The clay‑modeled idol of Mallanna is believed to be around 500 years old. Over time, the temple was enhanced with mandapams and choultries by the state Endowments Department.

Significance of the Temple

The temple is especially revered by the Yadava and Balija communities, reflecting Mallanna’s marriage to Kethamma and Medalamma from these groups. The community also leads key rituals. Its prominence is marked by grand festivals:
Mallanna Jatara, from Makara Sankranti to Ugadi, sees devotees visiting every Sunday.
Pedda Patnam on Maha Shivaratri, featuring Oggu Pujaris drawing rangoli (Patnam) as devotional offerings.
Agni Gundaalu—a fiery ritual—conducted the Sunday before Ugadi.

Architecture of the Temple

The temple occupies a hillock with a cave shrine, and is among the few Shaiva temples where Lord Shiva is worshipped in a vigraha (statue) form, not as a lingam. Architecturally, it includes a rajagopuram, a temple tank (pushkarini), Nandi statue, and facilities like mandapams and dormitories built by the Endowments Department.
