1 Om, (I meditate on Devi Mahakali) Who is holding Khadga (Scymitar,
Sword), Chakra (Discus), Gadaa (Club), Ishu (Arrow), Caapa (Bow),
Parigha (Club), Shula (Trident, Spear), Bhushundi (Fire-Arms, Missile),
Shira (Skull) and …
2: … Shankha (Conch) in Her Hands; Who has Three Eyes; Whose whole
Body is covered with Ornaments,
3: Whom the Lord arising from Lotus (i.e. Lord Brahma) eulogized to kill
demons Madhu and Kaitabha, when Lord Hari was in sleep (by the power of
Yogamaya),
4: She has the splendour of Blue Stone (Blue Gem), and has ten Faces and
Feet (signifying pervasiveness); I (worshipfully) serve that Mahakali

ॐ नमः आद्यायै । शृणु वत्स प्रवक्ष्यामि आद्या स्तोत्रं महाफलम् ।
यः पठेत् सततं भक्त्या स स्व विष्णुवल्लभः ॥१॥

Meaning:
1.1: Om, Reverential Salutations to Adya Maa,
1.2: Listen, O Child, I recite the Adya Stotram which is the bestower of
great Fruits,
1.3: He who recites this constantly (regularly) with Devotion, will
indeed become dear to Vishnu.
मृत्युर्व्याधिभयं तस्य नास्ति किञ्चित कलौ युगे ।
अपुत्रा लभते पुत्रं त्रिपक्षं श्रवणं यदि ॥२॥

Meaning:
2.1: (Salutations to Adya Maa) (By listening to this Stotra and
meditating on Adya Shakti) The Fear of Death and Disease does not exist
even a little in this Kali Yuga,
2.2: A woman without son obtains a son if she listens to this Stotra
(and meditates on Adya Shakti) for three Pakshas (Lunar Fortnights)
(consecutively).
द्वौ मासौ बन्धनान्मुक्ति विप्रवक्तात् श्रुतं यदि ।
मृतवत्सा जीववत्सा षण्मासं श्रवणं यदि ॥३॥

Meaning:
3.1 (Salutations to Adya Maa) A person becomes free from Bondage in two
months if he listens to this Stotra from a Vipra (Seer) (and meditates
on Adya Shakti),
3.2 A mother whose new-born Child always dies, becomes a child-surviving
mother if she listens to this Stotra for six months (continuously),
नौकायां सङ्कटे युद्धे पठनाज्जयमाप्नुयात् ।
लिखित्वा स्थापयेद्गेहे नाग्निचौरभयं क्कचित् ॥४॥
Naukaayaam Sangkatte Yuddhe Patthanaaj-Jayam-Aapnuyaat |
Likhitvaa Sthaapayed-Gehe Na-Agni-Caura-Bhayam Kkacit ||4||
Meaning:
4.1: (Salutations to Adya Maa) A person obtains Victory over (dangers
in) Boat (i.e. during travelling in water), over difficult situations in
life, and in Battle, if he recites (this Adya Stotram and meditates on
Adya Shakti),
4.2: Having written this (Adya Stotram) and establishing in one’s House
(with great devotion), there will no more be any fear of Fire
(destroying) or Thieves (robbing),
राजस्थाने जयी नित्यं प्रसन्नाः सर्वदेवता ।

of Brahma), and (You are) Devi Sarvamangala in Vaikuntha (Abode of
Vishnu),

Meaning:
12.1: (Salutations to Adya Maa) You reside as Hunger in all living
beings (i.e. as Prana Shakti), and You are the Shore of the Ocean (of
Samsara, which is the final aim of all beings),
12.2: You are the Navami of Shukla Paksha (Ninth day of the Bright
Fortnight of the Lunar Calendar) (signifies aggresive Power), and You
are the Ekadasi of Krishna Paksha (Eleventh day of the Dark Fortnight of
the Lunar Calendar) (signifies Joy); You are indeed Paraa (Supreme
beyond everything),

Who was the destroyer of the Daksha Yagya (Sacrifice of Daksha),
13.2: You are the (beloved) Devi Janaki of Sri Rama; You indeed are the
destroyer of Ravana.
चण्डमुण्डवधे देवी रक्तबीजविनाशिनी ।
निशुम्भशुम्भमथिनी मधुकैटभघातिनी ॥१४॥

Meaning:
16.1: … will not have any fear of Fever (i.e. Illness) and it will
destroy all his Illness,
16.2: He will obtain the fruits of going to million pilgrimages, there
is no doubt about it.

Kaumari and Shankhini, the Auspicious one.

of Battles (Ranapriya),

one with the Huge Womb (Mahodari) (Containing the Universe within it).

1.1: (Salutations to Devi Kalika) From Her Neck is hanging a Garland of
(severed) Heads from which Blood is dripping down,
1.2: She is making a very Terrific Sound revealing Her large Teeth, and
Her appearance is extremely Dreadful to look at,
1.3: She is without any Clothes and Residing in the Cremation ground;
Her Hair is let loose and Free (as is Her entire appearance),
1.4: Her entire being is manifesting the great Yearning to merge with
Mahakala (to take the devotees beyond Samsara); She is Kalika, the Great
Dark Goddess.

(gestures) (assurance of taking the devotees to the world beyond
death),
2.3: Her well-built middle Torso is slightly Bent with the weight of Her
lofty Breasts,
2.4: Her pair of Lips are Shining with Redness (the colour of blood), at

Worlds, and (what more), You are the Power Proclaiming Speech itself,
2.2: You are the Power which Nourish the Good-Hearted, and You are the
Power which Destroy the Enemies (i.e. Evil Hearted),
2.3: You are the Power which can Supress the Speech, and what more, You
are the Power which can Eradicate Speech itself (i.e. destroy the vain
pride of enemies),

6.1: (Salutations to Devi Kalika) You are Black like the great Cloud and
also Deep Red, and again White,
6.2: Sometimes You assume various Forms through Your Yogamaya,
6.3: You are neither a Small Girl, nor an Old Woman, and also not of any
age filled with Love Desires (i.e. Youth),
6.4: Even the Devas do not know Your Transcendental Nature.
क्षमस्वापराधं महागुप्तभावं मया लोकमध्ये प्रकाशिकृतं यत् ।
तव ध्यानपूतेन चापल्यभावात् स्वरूपं त्वदीयं न विन्दन्ति देवाः ॥७॥
