Mythological Significance & History

Mentioned in the Skanda Purana, where Goddess Chandi (Harsiddhi Mata) destroyed the demons Chand and Prachand.
The temple is strongly associated with King Vikramaditya of Ujjain, who was a great devotee of Harsiddhi Mata. Legends say he offered his own head multiple times in devotion to the Goddess.
The temple structure has ancient origins, dating back to the Gupta period (3rd–6th century CE), and was later renovated during the Maratha era.
