Eravikulangara Bhagavathy Temple

Eravikulangara Bhagavathy Temple is an ancient Hindu shrine located in Akaparambu village, Ernakulam district, Kerala, nestled between the sacred sites of Kalady (Adi Shankara’s birthplace) and Aluva.

Mythological Significance & History

Estimated Age: A sacred Ashtamangalya prasna revealed the temple to be approximately 1600 years old, originally surrounded by dense forest
Divine Sightings: The seer Vilwamangalam Swamiyar reportedly had a divine vision of Devi here, giving the site the name Thiruviluam Kunnu (holy hillock).
Additional Deities: With time, devotees recognized the presence of Lord Shiva and Sastha (Ayyappan), who were later formally incorporated into worship.
Ritual Enhancements: A Thambula Prasna in 2007 led to the installation of deities like Brahma Rakshas and Nāga Sarppam in 2008, enriching the temple’s spiritual vibrancy.
Local Legends: The lore is woven with narratives such as a “divine light” seen by villagers that led to the temple’s establishment, as well as mythical events involving two youths embodying Devi and Darika, whose transformation into rocks near the temple is still remembered

Other celebrated rituals include Maha Shivaratri, Pradosha, Ganesolsavam (Ganesh Chaturthi) with a fire ritual (Homa), Mandala Pooja, Ayyappan Vilakku, Pongala, and the yearly Ulsavam in Makaram featuring elaborate tantric ceremonies and Annadanam (mass feeding)
