Tripurmalini Temple

tripurmalini Temple

Tripurmalini Temple—also called Devi Talab Mandir—is a significant Shakti Peeth located at Doaba Chowk, Jalandhar, Punjab.

“माँ त्रिपुरमालिनी वह शक्ति हैं, जिनकी तीनों लोकों पर समान कृपा है।”

― tripurmalini Temple

Dedicated to Goddess Tripurmalini (a manifestation of Durga), the temple is centered around a large sacred talab (tank), believed by devotees to have healing properties.

Mythological Significance & History

According to legend, when Sati immolated herself at Daksha’s yagna, Shiva carried her body in grief. To pacify him, Lord Vishnu dispatched his Sudarshan Chakra, which dismembered her body into 51 parts. Her right breast is said to have fallen at this location, making it one of the 51 Shakti Peethas

The temple houses the Tripurmalini shrine, an ancient Kali temple, and a replica of the Amarnath Cave. A large pond used for ritual immersion is central to the complex.

Significance of the Temple

As a Shakti Peeth, devotees believe sincere worship here can grant health, peace, spiritual cleansing, and fulfillment of heartfelt desires.

The pond within the temple is considered spiritually purifying; taking a dip is believed to wash away sins and grant blessings.

Fridays often feature devotional bhajan sandhyas, and in April an annual mela honors the goddess, culminating in thanksgiving rituals with offerings and music.

Architecture of the Temple

The temple features a pyramid-shaped shrine reached via a long passage, reminiscent of the Amarnath Cave inside the complex.

The centerpiece is a large pond bordered by walkways, with a statue of Lord Shiva spouting water like a fountain in the center.

Additional structures include a Shrine to Kali, an Amarnath replica, and Ram Hall, all arranged around the sacred tank. Gold-plated facades and interiors add to the temple’s grandeur.
