Budhi Mai Mandir

Budhi Mai Mandir

Budhi Mai Temple (also spelled Budhi Maai) is a revered shrine located in Ismailpur (Haruli) village near Vaishali, Bihar.

“बुढ़ी माई की कृपा हो जाए, तो जीवन की हर बुरी घड़ी टल जाती है।”

― Budhi Mai Mandir

The temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga in her compassionate, maternal form—often revered as an incarnation of Maa Parvati or Shakti.

Mythological Significance & History

The temple is rooted in local tradition linking it to the esteemed Mithila tantric priest Madan Manohar Upadhyay, who established the shrine centuries ago. Legend says that during pond excavation within the temple grounds, the goddess manifested herself. From then on, worship began with the yantra she revealed.
The site is considered over a thousand years old, and along with other nearby spiritual centers like Uchaitha and Rajrajeshwar, forms a powerful Shakti‑Peeth triangle in the heart of Mithila.

Significance of the Temple

Devotees believe all sincere wishes are fulfilled when offered to the compassionate Mother, especially during Navratri. Thousands flock from across Bihar (and beyond) seeking blessings.
The temple is widely regarded as a Shakti Peetha, a spiritually potent spot for devotees of the Divine Feminine (Shakti).

Architecture of the Temple

Set amidst the green surroundings of Mangrauni village in Madhubani district, Budhi Mai Temple blends seamlessly with nature. The central shrine is simple but sacred, hosting the yantra revealed by the deity.

While detailed architectural records are limited, its age, sanctity, and the spiritual triangle it forms with other Shakti centers underscore its significance.
