The Goddess is believed to have appeared here and destroyed the enemies, protecting her devotees. Since then, people worship her as a guardian deity. The temple has grown in importance over centuries and is regarded as a Shakti Peetha of South India.

By Road: The temple is well connected by road. Buses and private taxis are available from Madanapalle (20 km) and Chittoor (around 100 km).
