Ballaleshwar Pali Ganpati Temple

Ballaleshwar Temple, located in Pali, Raigad district of Maharashtra, is one of the revered Ashtavinayak temples dedicated to Lord Ganesha.

“बल्लाळेश्वर गणपति की कृपा से हर भक्त का जीवन बन जाता है सुगम और सफल।”

― Ballaleshwar Pali Ganpati Temple

This temple is unique as it is the only Ganesha temple named after a devotee – Ballal. It holds deep spiritual value and is visited by thousands of devotees every year seeking blessings for devotion, courage, and faith.

Mythological Significance & History

The legend behind the temple is centered on a devoted boy named Ballal, the son of a wealthy merchant.
Ballal was a devout worshipper of Ganesha and often conducted pujas with his friends. Annoyed by this, his father tied him to a tree.
Ballal, though in pain, kept chanting Ganesha’s name. Deeply moved, Lord Ganesha appeared before him and granted him a boon.
The Lord promised to reside at that place and be worshipped as Ballaleshwar, honoring His devotee.
The present temple was built in 1760 AD by Shri Phadnavis, and has stood as a symbol of devotion and divine love ever since.

Significance of the Temple

Only Ganesha temple named after a devotee – Ballal, representing Lord Ganesha’s affection for true devotion.
Part of the sacred Ashtavinayak Yatra – it is the third temple in the traditional sequence.
Believed to bless devotees with strength in devotion, spiritual awakening, and divine protection.
People visit this temple especially when facing family issues, faith-related confusion, or trouble in devotion.

Architecture of the Temple

Built in stone and lead to protect from heat and sound – a rare combination.

The temple faces east so that during sunrise, the rays directly fall on the main idol.

The main idol (murti) is about 3 feet tall, with a trunk turned to the left and adorned with diamonds in the eyes and navel.

The temple has fort-like walls, a huge bell gifted by Chimaji Appa (after winning Vasai fort), and a deepmala (lamp tower) in the courtyard.

The Sabha Mandap (assembly hall) is spacious and beautifully designed with intricate carvings.
