Mythological Significance & History

The temple was constructed in 1760 by Ahilya Bai Holkar, the Queen of Indore and a great patron of temples across India. Since then, the temple has been regarded as a significant center of Shakti worship in Madhya Pradesh. The temple’s hill is also historically important, as it was used by the Holkar rulers for military watch due to its elevated location. Over time, Bijasan Temple became a major religious site for devotees of Goddess Durga.

The temple is dedicated to Maa Bijasan, considered a powerful form of Goddess Durga.
Devotees believe that Maa Bijasan fulfills wishes, grants strength, and protects against negative forces.

The temple follows simple North Indian Nagara style architecture.

It is constructed mainly of stone and features a sanctum that houses the idol of Goddess Bijasan adorned with flowers and ornaments.

The temple has a large courtyard where devotees gather during festivals.

By Air: The temple is located very close to Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport (about 2 km away), making it easily accessible for travelers
