Sri Bhimeswara Temple

The Sri Bhimeswara Swamy Temple, also known as Draksharamam Temple, is a sacred Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva located in East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh. Mythological Significance & History

The temple has ancient roots, dating back to the 9th–10th century CE, built under the rule of the Eastern Chalukyas.
According to legend, after Lord Shiva destroyed the demon Tarakasura, pieces of the demon’s Shiva Lingam (known as Taraka Lingam) fell in five places, where the Pancharama temples were established. Draksharamam is one of them.
It is also believed that Sati Devi’s left cheek fell here, making it a Shakti Peetha, where Goddess Manikyamba is worshipped.
Later dynasties, including the Chalukyas and Kakatiyas, expanded and renovated the temple

Architecture of the Temple

Built in a stunning Dravidian style of architecture with intricate carvings and inscriptions.

The temple is a two-storied structure, unique among Pancharama shrines.

The sanctum houses a large Shiva Lingam, believed to be a piece of Taraka Lingam.

The temple complex also contains a shrine for Manikyamba Devi, making it a Shaiva-Shakta confluence temple.

By Air: The nearest airport is Rajahmundry Airport (60 km), while Visakhapatnam Airport (180 km) is another option.
