― Shri Maa Lalita Devi Temple

At the place where the Goddess’s fingers once fell, today stands a huge temple with a crown that is 108 feet tall. This temple, located on the banks of the Yamuna River in the Mirpur locality at the centre of Prayagraj city, was established on the Shri Yantra design.

History of Lalita Devi Shaktipeeth

Mata Lalita is believed to be a symbol of Power and Tripur Sundari. As per historical belief, Mata Shakti’s right-hand fingers fell in Prayagraj near Triveni Sangam. Three temples are considered Shaktipeeths and all three temples have the power of Lalita of Prayag Shaktipeeth. It is believed that the goddess’s fingers fell at Akshayavat, Mirapura and Alopur.
It is believed that Mata Shakti is here in the form of ‘Mata Lalita,’ and Lord Shiva is in the form of ‘Bhairava.’.
Next to the temple of Mata Lalita, there is a temple called Laliteshwar Mahadev. This temple finds a mention in the Devi Purana and it is said that Maharshi Bharadwaj worshipped the goddess here. It is believed that the Pandavas visited the temple and offered prayers here

Significance of Lalita Devi Temple

Lalita Devi Temple is a must-see when seeing the holy sites associated with Uttar Pradesh tourism. It is one of the Shakti Peethas and is dedicated to Lalita Devi, the presiding deity of Naimisharanya, making it a highly respected Hindu shrine in Uttar Pradesh. Devotees are quite impressed by the temple’s architecture. With a balanced cantilever, it is exquisitely constructed. Additionally, there are statues of elephants on either side of the entrance to this well-known pilgrimage destination in Naimisharanya.
There are several legends related to the Lalita Devi shrine. One of them claimed that after completing the Daksha Yajna, Goddess Sati sprang into the flames while standing in the Yogi Agni position.
As a response, Lord Shiva began performing the well-known Tandav dance, also known as the dance of destruction, while carrying Sati’s body on his shoulder. Lord Brahma split her corpse into 51 parts in order to stop Shiva. According to legend, this is where Goddess Sati’s heart is said to have fallen, leading to its status as a Shakti Peetha.

Temple Architecture & History
