Location & Identity: The Shri Katyayani Peeth Temple is a revered Shakti Peeth in Vrindavan, Mathura district, Uttar Pradesh. Legend holds that Goddess Sati’s hair fell here when Lord Shiva performed his cosmic dance, conferring this place with divine significance. (Also known as “Uma Shakti Peeth.”)
Temple Establishment: The present-day temple was founded in 1923 by Yogiraj Swami Keshvanand Bramachari, following divine direction to locate the sacred site.Multiple Deities: Within the main sanctum, along with Goddess Katyayani (the Shakti tradition), the temple honors deities from Shaiv (Shiva), Vaishnav (Vishnu-Lakshmi), Ganapatya (Ganesha), Surya (Sun) traditions, and also Jagaddhatri Devi—reflecting inclusive spiritual harmony.

Significance of the Temple

Divine Feminine Power: Katyayani is the fierce form of Durga, worshipped here for strength and divine grace. Unmarried women traditionally pray for a righteous spouse, inspired by Gopis (milkmaids of Vrindavan) who once performed the Katyayani Vrata on the Yamuna’s banks seeking Krishna as their life partner.
Shakti Peeth Legacy: As part of the 51 sacred Shakti Peeths, it’s deeply revered in Hindu tradition as a site of cosmic energy and maternal worship.
