Shri Bhramri Shaktipeeth Temple

Shri Bhramari Shaktipeeth is one of the sacred 51 Shakti Peethas, where the left leg of Goddess Sati is said to have fallen. The presiding deity here is Maa Bhramari Devi, a fierce form of Goddess Durga associated with bees (bhramara).

“या देवी सर्वभूतेषु भ्रमारूपेण संस्थिता।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥

― Shri Bhramri Temple

The temple is located in a calm, forested area of northern Bengal, providing a peaceful and powerful spiritual atmosphere.

History of the Temple

The temple is mentioned in the Kalika Purana and Devi Bhagavatam.
According to legend, Maa Bhramari Devi manifested to slay a powerful demon named Arun (or Arunasura), who could not be killed by any weapon. The goddess released a swarm of black bees (bhramara) from her body that destroyed him.
This fierce form of Devi Durga symbolizes nature’s raw power and the idea that even the smallest beings can carry divine strength.

Significance of the Temple

Shakti: Goddess Bhramari Devi
Bhairava: Sarvanand
Body Part: Left Leg of Sati
Peeth Name: Trisrota or Bahula in some scriptures
The term “Trisrota” means the confluence of three streams, and the temple’s sacred energy is believed to originate from this divine merging of waters and power.

Architecture of the Temple

The current structure is relatively simple, with traditional Bengali temple features, such as a curved dome (chala) and carved wooden details.

The sanctum houses a black stone idol of Bhramari Devi, often shown seated on a lotus, with a glowing aura of bees around her.

The natural surroundings — forests, riverbank, and birdsong — add to the tranquil and mystical atmosphere.

Though modest in appearance, devotees experience intense spiritual vibrations in the temple precincts.
