Redi Ganpati Temple

Redi Ganpati Temple, located in the coastal village of Redi in Sindhudurg district, Maharashtra, is a revered shrine dedicated to Lord Ganesha, affectionately known as Ganpati Bappa by locals.

“समुद्र की गोद से निकले विघ्नहर्ता – यही हैं रेडी के श्री गणपति।”

― Redi Ganpati Temple

It’s approximately 30 km from Vengurla and nestled amidst a picturesque Konkan landscape.

Mythological Significance & History

The temple’s story begins in 1976 when Sadashiv Nagesh Kambli, a truck driver, dreamt that Lord Ganesha was buried at a specific spot near the seashore. Believing the dream, he began excavating—and to everyone’s surprise, unearthed a massive two‑armed (Dwibhuja) Ganesha idol carved in rock.
The idol stands at about 6 feet tall and 4 feet wide, in a serene seated posture. A carved mouse (Ganesha’s vahana) was discovered later and installed facing the deity.
Though modern in discovery, the idol is believed—per local tradition—to date back to the Pandava era, adding ancient mystique.

Significance of the Temple

The temple is celebrated as a “Vigilant Deity”, believed to be deeply responsive to devotees’ prayers, especially on sacred days like Sankashti Chaturthi and Ganesh Jayanti.
It draws pilgrims from across Maharashtra, Goa, and Karnataka, often integrated into Konkan tour itineraries.

Architecture of the Temple

Simple yet charming, the temple features a white marble floor and a modest prayer hall that enhances its peaceful ambiance.

Inside, walls are adorned with sculpted reliefs and icons of Hindu deities, creating an intimate temple environment.

A short walk from the temple leads to Redi Beach, offering scenic views where calm turquoise water meets coconut groves—adding natural serenity to the visit.
