Mata Mansa Devi Temple

Mata Mansa Devi Temple

Mata Mansa Devi Temple, dedicated to Goddess Mansa Devi (a form of Shakti), is a major Shakti shrine in North India.

“ॐ श्रीं मंसा देवी नमः”
“माता मनसा देवी की कृपा से हर असंभव संभव हो जाता है।”

― Mata Mansa Devi Temple

It lies in the Shivalik foothills at Bilaspur village near Mani Majra, Panchkula, spread across a vast 100-acre complex.

Mythological Significance & History

The main temple was constructed between 1811–1815 by Maharaja Gopal Das Singh of Mani Majra.

A second shrine, known as the Patiala Shivalaya Temple, was built in 1840 by Maharaja Karam Singh of Patiala and stands approximately 200 meters from the main one.

Post-Independence neglect led to the formation of the Shri Mata Mansa Devi Shrine Board (SMMDSB) in 1991, under which management and modernization efforts were formalized.

Significance of the Temple

Goddess Mansa Devi is worshipped particularly for protection, especially from snakebites, and for being a wish-fulfilling deity.

The temple is one of the prominent Shakti Peethas in North India, regarded alongside seven other revered goddesses.

Architecture of the Temple

The temple complex houses three main shrines including the Mansa Devi and Patiala temples.

The main temple’s interiors are richly adorned with wall paintings and floral designs—thirty-eight panels in total—made during earlier centuries.

The Patiala temple features Mughal-influenced architecture, with onion-shaped domes, minarets at corners, cupolas, and vaulted alcoves adding a distinct stylistic flavor to the site.
