Hanuman Temple, Connaught Place

Hanuman Temple,

The Hanuman Temple in Connaught Place, Delhi, is one of the most famous and ancient temples dedicated to Lord Hanuman. It is considered to be among the five Mahabharata-era temples in Delhi and holds immense religious significance

॥ ॐ हनुमते नमः ॥

॥ हनुमान् अञ्जनेयाय महाबलाय स्वाहा ॥

― Hanuman Temple,

The temple is always filled with chants of “Jai Bajrang Bali” and the fragrance of incense, creating a divine atmosphere. Devotees believe that visiting this temple removes obstacles, grants strength, and fulfills wishes.

Mythological Significance & History

The temple’s history goes back to the time of the Mahabharata, when it is believed that Pandava prince Bhima built a shrine for Lord Hanuman after the Kurukshetra war. The present structure, however, was reconstructed in the 16th century by Raja Man Singh of Amber, and later renovated by Maharaja Jai Singh in the 18th century. The temple gained further recognition when it was mentioned in the Ain-i-Akbari (16th century Mughal text). Over centuries, the Hanuman Temple has remained a prominent place of worship in Delhi.

Significance of the Temple

The temple is one of the few religious sites where the name of Lord Ram is continuously chanted — creating an “Akhand Ram Naam” (eternal chant) since ancient times.
It is believed that praying at this temple brings protection, courage, wisdom, and success.
Devotees especially visit on Tuesdays and Saturdays, which are considered highly auspicious for Hanuman worship.
The temple attracts devotees from across India during Hanuman Jayanti, celebrated with grandeur

Architecture of the Temple

The temple is built in traditional North Indian Nagara style.

A tall Shikhara (spire) rises above the sanctum and is visible from far away.

Inside, the sanctum houses a magnificent idol of Lord Hanuman, decorated with flowers, sindoor (vermilion), and silver ornaments.

The walls are adorned with mythological paintings and inscriptions.

A special feature of the temple is the Ram Naam written continuously on the walls, creating a unique spiritual aura.
