Anandamayee Shakthi Peetha

Anandamayee Shakti Peetha, locally called Ratnavali Shakti Peetha, is a sacred Hindu shrine situated on the banks of the Ratnakar River in Khanakul–Krishnanagar, Hooghly district, West Bengal.

“जहाँ माँ आनंदमयी विराजती हैं, वहाँ आत्मा को आनंद, चित्त को शांति और जीवन को ऊर्जा मिलती है।”

― Anandamayee Shakthi Peetha

It is renowned as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, sacred sites where parts of the goddess Sati’s body are believed to have fallen.

Mythological Significance & History

According to legend, when Lord Shiva was grieving the loss of Sati, Lord Vishnu used his Sudarshan Chakra to dismember her body. The right shoulder (dakṣiṇa-skandha) fell at this sacred site, and the temple was later built there in devotion.
Some sources indicate the temple is centuries old, potentially around 1,000 years, though specifics are unclear

Significance of the Temple

It is one of the venerated Shakti Peethas, sites of immense spiritual power for devotees.
Visitors seek blessings for salvation (moksha), wealth, health, wisdom, and spiritual upliftment.
Major festivals celebrated here include Durga Puja, Navaratri (once in Chaitra—March/April, and again in Ashwin—September/October), and Mahashivratri with special fervor

Architecture of the Temple

The temple architecture is relatively modest and traditional. While detailed descriptions are limited, key aspects include:

  • A two-tiered structure nestled near the riverbank.
  • The sanctum sanctorum (garbha-griha) houses the idols of Kumari (Sati) and Bhairav (Shiva).
  • One source suggests the temple has a pyramidal roof and lotus design elements with a central dome surrounded by smaller domes

How to Reach to Temple

By Air: The nearest airport is Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata (~60–78 km away).
