Ajgaivinath Temple, Sultanganj
It is dedicated to Lord Shiva, revered here as a self-manifested (Swayambhu) Shiva Lingam.
Architecture of the Temple
Built upon a rocky outcrop in the Ganges, the temple is designed in the Nagara style and includes a majestic Shikhara donated by Rani Kalavati in 1885.
The rock host lodges intricate sculptures and inscriptions from the Pala period, regarded as among the most exemplary in India.
The temple’s location on a Ganges rock base makes it strikingly scenic, especially in the monsoon when the waters splash around its base
Archaeological finds in the area include relics from the Maurya, Gupta, and Pala periods—such as stupas, seals, Buddhist and Hindu images.

By Road: Sultanganj is about 28 km west of Bhagalpur; frequent bus services and cycle rickshaws are available.
By Rail: Nearest railhead is Sultanganj Railway Station, located just a few kilometers from the temple.
By Air:
Boat access is available from Murli Hills, crossing the Ganges to the temple.
Nearest airports include Darbhanga Airport (~140 km), Gaya Airport (200 km), and Patna Airport (226 km).
