Located in Mammiyoor, Guruvayoor, in Kerala’s Thrissur district, this revered Lord Shiva temple is a must-visit alongside the famous Guruvayur Temple—devotees consider both visits essential.

It is one of the sacred 108 Shiva temples of Kerala and among five legendary Shiva shrines near Guruvayoor.

Mythological Significance & History

Legend narrates that when the idol of Krishna floated from submerged Dwarka, it reached Guruvayoor guided by Devaguru Brihaspati and Vayu. Lord Shiva, performing penance nearby, moved aside to allow the Krishna idol’s installation—thus, the place became known as Mammiyoor (Mahimayoor) .
