Legend narrates that when the idol of Krishna floated from submerged Dwarka, it reached Guruvayoor guided by Devaguru Brihaspati and Vayu. Lord Shiva, performing penance nearby, moved aside to allow the Krishna idol’s installation—thus, the place became known as Mammiyoor (Mahimayoor) .
