Dwarkadhish Temple

The Dwarkadhish Temple, also known as the Jagat Mandir, is one of the most revered temples in India, dedicated to Lord Krishna, worshipped here as Dwarkadhish (King of Dwarka). Located in Dwarka, Gujarat, it is part of the Char Dham Yatra (four holy pilgrimage sites) and one of the Sapta Puri (seven most ancient religious cities of India). Mythological Significance & History

The temple is believed to have been originally built over 2,500 years ago by Vajranabh, the great-grandson of Lord Krishna.
Historical records suggest that the temple was reconstructed in the 16th century after being destroyed multiple times by foreign invasions.
The temple has been an important center of Vaishnavism, drawing millions of pilgrims over centuries.
Dwarka itself is considered the kingdom of Lord Krishna, where he ruled after leaving Mathura

Significance of the Temple

It is one of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites, making it a must-visit for Hindus.
The temple represents Lord Krishna as the King of Dwarka, highlighting his divine leadership.
Pilgrims believe that visiting Dwarkadhish grants moksha (liberation) and blessings of prosperity and protection.
The temple is also significant in Krishna Janmashtami celebrations, which are celebrated with grandeur and devotion.
Devotees consider Dwarka as a sacred Mokshapuri, where the ocean submerged the ancient city of Krishna.

Architecture of the Temple

The temple is built in Chalukya style of architecture with intricate carvings and detailed sculptures.

The main shikhara (spire) rises about 78 meters high, visible from miles away.

The temple has a five-storied structure, supported by 72 beautifully carved pillars.

The sanctum houses the idol of Lord Krishna (Dwarkadhish), decorated with rich ornaments and attire.

The temple complex includes two main entrances:

Swarga Dwar (Gate to Heaven) – leads to the temple.

Moksha Dwar (Gate of Liberation) – leads pilgrims back after darshan.

The flag atop the temple, changed five times a day, is an important ritual. It bears symbols of the sun and moon, signifying Krishna’s eternal presence.

By Road: Dwarka is well connected by roads to major cities of Gujarat like Jamnagar, Rajkot, and Ahmedabad. Buses and taxis are available.

By Train: The nearest railway station is Dwarka Railway Station (2 km away), connected to major Indian cities.

By Air: The nearest airport is Jamnagar Airport (137 km away). Rajkot and Ahmedabad airports are also accessible
