Kukdeshwar Temple, Pune

This ancient 12th-century shrine, built in the classic Hemadpanthi architectural style, is praised for its sculptural elegance and serene riverside setting.

Architecture of the Temple

Built following the Hemadpanthi style, crafted entirely in stone without mortar.
The temple includes a sanctum (garbha griha), an assembly hall (sabha mandapa), and a vestibule (antarala). While the original shikhara (tower) is missing, its base remains visible.
Exterior and interior walls are richly carved with kirtimukhas, floral motifs, and divine figures—featuring deities like Varaha, Thandava Shiva, Bhairava, Chamunda, and Uma.
A Nandi sits outside facing the sanctum, symbolizing Lord Shiva’s vahana.
