Jagannath Temple, Ranchi

The temple is world-famous for the annual Rath Yatra (Chariot Festival), when the deities are taken out in grand wooden chariots for public darshan.

Architecture of the Temple

Built in the Kalinga style of architecture, with a towering 65-meter-high shikhara visible from miles away.
The complex has four main gates — Singhadwara, Ashwadwara, Hathidwara, and Vyaghradwara.
The sanctum houses the wooden idols of Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra placed on a raised platform.
The temple also has Mukhashala (porch), Nata Mandir (dancing hall), and Bhoga Mandap (offering hall).
The kitchen is considered the largest in the world, preparing Mahaprasad for thousands daily.
The main sanctum houses a Shivling, continuously bathed with water and milk by devotees.
An adjacent shrine is dedicated to Goddess Parvati.
The temple complex includes several smaller shrines dedicated to other deities and a large courtyard for rituals and gatherings.
The structure is simple yet spiritually vibrant, with whitewashed walls and stone-paved floors.
