In the daily newspaper, you find many news items that speak volumes about the anger, hatred, and jealousy in man. These evil tendencies are the bitter enemies of man. People are worried about the harmful effects of certain planets. In fact, desire and anger are the two planets that cause the greatest harm to mankind. Yes, desires are essential for man. But excessive desires wreak danger. Na sreyo niyamam vina (without discipline, there can be no well being). Desires should be under limit.

This is truly the cause for the degradation of peace in the world. What is reason for all the chaos and revolts in the world? Man today has lost the value of humanness by losing the fear of sin and love for God. Fear of sin and love for God are the two most important human values.

Guidelines to the members of Sathya Sai Seva Organisations

Description
All the members of this organisation should become “thyagarajus”- men with spirit of sacrifice and “yogarajus”- men with control over their desires and not become “bhogarajus”- men immersed in worldly pleasures and luxuries. One must give up one’s selfishness, offer everything at the feet of the lord and enter the society with the will to serve the society and be happy at its prosperity. There is an important aspect that the members assembled here must take notice. One need not take up the service activities that are beyond one’s capacities but do the activity to one’s best potential. For serving, one has to have the body and the mind to do so. The sacred will to do the service and an able body with sound capacities to implement the will – these are the essential requirements to do service. Wealth, money etc are not the requirements to do seva. When one gives importance to wealth and money in such activities, it depletes one’s energy, one’s willingness to do the service and gives rise to discrepancies amongst the members.

This age is golden age. If one wastes this golden age, one will be ruining one’s future. When the sapling is straight, the tree will also be straight! So Bhagawan says, “Start early, drive slowly, and reach safely!” It is a very good time to start. This is the time of seedling. At the seedling stage if it grows straight, the rest also will follow. Hence one should make use of this age diligently.

On this day of Ugadi, take a firm resolve to purify your heart. Past is past. It cannot be retrieved. When you are walking on the road, you should look at the path ahead of you. What is the point in looking behind? Likewise, there is no point in brooding over the past. Future is not certain. What is the guarantee that you will be alive until tomorrow? So, do not worry about your future. Live in the present. It is not ordinary present. It is omnipresent, meaning the results of past and seeds of future are contained in it. So, when you make proper use of the present, you can be rest assured that your future is safe and secure.
