Shri Nandini Temple Shakti Peeth

The Shri Nandini Temple, also known as Nandikeshwari Shakti Peeth, is a revered sacred site located in Sainthia (formerly Nandipur) in the Birbhum district of West Bengal. It is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, shrines where body parts or ornaments of Goddess Sati are believed to have fallen when Lord Vishnu dismembered her to calm Lord Shiva’s grief.

Here, her necklace fell, and the Goddess is worshipped as Nandini, with Lord Shiva as Nandikeshwar (Bhairava).

History of Shri Nandini Temple Shakti Peeth

The Shakti Peeth was formed where Sati’s necklace landed after Vishnu’s act to pacify Shiva.
The temple believed to be established around Bengali year 1320 (around early 20th century) and is built on an elevated platform.
The site is deeply spiritual—devotees flock here for blessings of empowerment, wish‑fulfillment, prosperity, and relief from ailments.

Worship at this Shakti Peeth is believed to bring spiritual strength, prosperity, and the fulfillment of heartfelt wishes.
Devotees tie red or yellow threads to an ancient banyan tree nearby, symbolizing their hopes and prayers.


Architecture of Shri Nandini Temple

The sanctum houses a black stone idol, smeared thickly with sindoor (vermilion), resembling a tortoise’s shell. It is adorned with a silver crown and three golden eyes.

The temple features a small pyramidal dome, and the overall structure is modest yet radiates deep spiritual energy.

Within the temple complex, there are smaller shrines dedicated to Dashavatara, Rama–Sita, Hanuman, Navadurga, Shiva, Saraswati, Lakshmi–Ganesha, Radha–Govinda, and more.
