Mythological Significance & History

According to legends, Goddess Lakshmi incarnated as Padmavathi Devi at Tiruchanoor and later married Lord Venkateswara.
It is believed that Lord Venkateswara himself directed devotees to worship Goddess Padmavathi for blessings of prosperity and happiness.
The temple has been patronized by several dynasties, including the Pallavas, Cholas, and Vijayanagara kings, who contributed to its expansion and rituals.
Over centuries, Tiruchanoor became an integral part of the Tirupati pilgrimage tradition.

Significance of the Temple

Goddess Padmavathi is regarded as the Goddess of Fortune and Prosperity (Sri Lakshmi).
Devotees believe that worshipping at Tiruchanoor ensures wealth, health, and spiritual well-being.
The temple holds a special place in the marriage rituals of Tirumala pilgrims, where blessings of both Lord Venkateswara and Goddess Padmavathi are sought.
The annual Brahmotsavam (Karthika Masam, November–December) is a grand celebration attracting lakhs of devotees.
Performing Swarna Pushparchana Seva and Kumkum Archana here is considered highly auspicious.

Architecture of the Temple

The temple is built in Dravidian style of architecture, with beautifully sculpted gopurams (gateway towers) and ornate carvings.

The sanctum houses the idol of Goddess Padmavathi, adorned with gold jewelry and silken garments.

The temple complex also includes shrines dedicated to Sri Krishna Swamy, Sri Sundararaja Swamy, and Sri Suryanarayana Swamy.

The temple tank, known as Padmasarovaram, is where the annual Tepotsavam (float festival) is celebrated with grandeur.
