Dwadasha Jyotirlinga Temple

The Dwadāsha Jyotirlinga Temple at Omkar Hills in Bengaluru is a unique spiritual complex that houses representative shrines of all 12 sacred Jyotirlingas within one location. Each Jyotirlinga has its own garbhagriha (sanctum) and vimana/gopuram, emulating the original shrines spread across India.

“सौराष्ट्र में स्थित सोमनाथ और श्रीशैल (श्रेष्त्र शैल्य) में स्थित मल्लिकार्जुन, उज्जयिनी में महाकाल और ओंकारेश्वर—इन ज्योतिर्लिंगों का मैं स्मरण करता हूँ।”

Nestled within Omkar Ashram, the site also contains other temples and facilities dedicated to spiritual practice and well-being, including a Matsya Narayana temple, Vanadurga temple, Nagadevatha temple, a muni temple, goshala, Veda vidyalaya, a sacred banyan tree, a religious harmony memorial, and a massive tower clock

Mythological Significance & History

The Dwadāsha Jyotirlinga Temple here was inaugurated on 16th February 2011 . While the Jyotirlingas themselves are millennia old (as per the Shiva Purana), this complex brings them together in one devotional space, offering the essence of the 12 holy sites under one roof

Significance of the Temple

Jyotirlingas literally mean “lingam of light”, representing Lord Shiva’s radiant cosmic form. Each jyotirlinga is revered as a supreme manifestation of Shiva himself.
According to Hindu tradition, visiting even a single Jyotirlinga can lead to moksha (spiritual liberation).
This temple compresses the entire Dwadāsha Jyotirlinga pilgrimage into a single pilgrimage site, believed to cleanse navagraha doshas and bestow grace, joy, health, wealth, and peace

Architecture of the Temple

The complex features individual sanctums and towers for each of the 12 Jyotirlingas, modeled after their original counterparts—symbolically representing the range of Shiva’s divine presence.

It is part of a larger religious campus (ashram) that includes diverse temple architecture, spiritual facilities, and spaces for learning and meditation
