Shri Sravani Devi Shaktipeeth Temple

Shri Sravani Devi Shaktipeeth Temple is one of the revered 51 Shaktipeethas in Hinduism, where different parts of Goddess Sati’s body are believed to have fallen when Lord Shiva wandered across the cosmos with her body. At this sacred site, it is believed that the skin (tvak) of Goddess Sati fell.

ॐ नमः शिवाय
This mantra is a salutation to Lord Shiva, the deity enshrined in the cave. “

― Shri Amarnath Cave Temple

The presiding deity is Goddess Sravani (Sravani Devi) and she is worshipped along with Lord Bhairava in the form of Sarvananda.

This holy Shaktipeeth is identified by many scholars and spiritual texts to be located in Khirgram, Bardhaman district, West Bengal, though some interpretations also associate it with nearby regions.

History of The Temple

The temple’s origin is connected to the famous mythological tale of Daksha Yagna and Sati’s sacrifice. When Goddess Sati self-immolated in protest of her father Daksha’s insult to Lord Shiva, a grief-stricken Shiva carried her body across the universe. As he wandered in sorrow, her body parts began falling on the earth, and these spots became the Shaktipeethas.
The Sravani Shaktipeeth is believed to be the place where her skin fell, representing the protective and nurturing layer of the divine feminine. Over centuries, this location became a sacred pilgrimage site, especially for devotees seeking divine protection, healing, and maternal blessings.
The temple is believed to have been rebuilt and renovated several times due to its historical significance and regional devotion in West Bengal.
