Divine Words of wisdom by Sathya Sai Baba – On Mahabharata

Divine Words of wisdom by Sathya Sai Baba – With Mahabharata 1. All Indians must be united: Analogy of Dharmaja Your browser does not support the audio element. 1988-09-03 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description Develop only good ideas. What ever you do, do it selflessly. This is what Krishna did. He conquered a lot of kingdoms, He entered into political life. He freed people from all types of cuningness. He put down people who were on the wrong path. He gave power and authority to all people who would be able to manage. However many kings He defeated, He remained a king without a crown. After killing Kamsa, the people of the city prayed to him, ‘Swami, you can become the king of this Madhurapuri and rule’. He said, ‘If I become the king I may have only this kingdom, I would rather be a king-maker than a king. I should be the one who makes kings. I do not want this kingdom. I would rule the kingdom of your hearts. That is enough’. Such are the great and broad feelings of God. We are basing our understanding of Krishna on the basis of the cinemas and the dramas that we see.   4. Man creates his own problems: Analogy from Mahabharatha Your browser does not support the audio element. 1996-06-27   Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description Others do not give either pleasure or pain. Man’s thoughts, words and deeds are solely responsible for the pleasure or pain that he experiences. Devudanaga veru desamanduna ledu, Devudanaga kaladu dehamande, Papamanaga veru paradesamuna ledu, Taanu cheyu panula tagili yundu!! God is not present in a foreign land, He is present in one’s body!! Sin is not present in any foreign country, It is attached to one’s deeds!! But without realising this truth, blames others for his pain and pleasure and thinks that he is subjected to pain and pleasure due to others actions. At times man is subjected to many troubles due to the bad actions resulting from bad thoughts. During the Mahabharata war, Arjuna pressurised Krishna in many ways. He prayed to Krishna, “O Krishna! You as our emissary and ambassador go there and find out whether they are for peace or for war.” The youngest of Pandavas, Sahadeva, was an ardent devotee of Krishna. Dharmaja, Bhima and Arjuna agreed to send Krishna as an emissary. But Sahadeva did not agree to it because of his intense love and attachment to Krishna. He was reluctant to send him to the wicked Kauravas and was worried about His safety. He did not drink water till Krishna returned from Hasthinapura and spent his time in continuous remembrance of Krishna. Krishna returned from Hasthinapura and said, “Arjuna, be ready for the war, do not retreat now. They are fixed on war.” Sahadeva went to Krishna and held His hands tightly and said, “I felt that sending my beloved brother-in-law to Hasthinapura was not proper. I could not muster courage to voice my disapproval. But I prayed inwardly for the safety of my brother-in-law. I prayed that everything auspicious should happen to Krishna. Krishna has returned safe and secure. That in itself is enough for me.” The thoughts and behaviour of ardent devotees are very sacred. How were the thoughts of Arjuna? Arjuna too had love and affection towards Krishna but he loved to fight. Krishna offered to go again to Hasthinapura for the second time. Arjuna could not bear this. He said, Kuracha buddhula aakauravulamarathakaligi mana potthukothura? Yudhdhamu sidhdhamanaka kaala haranamika yela? “Krishna, the mean minded fellows that the Kauravas are, will they want peace? Let’s be ready to fight. Why waste time? Krishna, tell them to be ready for the battle. Why try to put fragrant jasmines in fire? Why talk to foolish people? Will they listen to the words of wisdom? O Gopala, why this talk of peace? Let’s stop these talks. Will the North and South poles ever meet? Be ready to fight, why waste time? Will the north ever meet the south? East and west come in between them. Hence, these two will never meet. Get ready for war tomorrow.” So saying Arjuna blew his conch. Krishna was the charioteer of Arjuna. He stopped the chariot in between the two army troops. The heart of Arjuna, who spoke so valiantly and courageously, melted at the sight of the friends and relatives on the other side. Indari bandhu, mitru guruputralu champi bharinchutetulo?? Krishna!! Naa kannulu tiruguchunnavi ika kaalamu gadapaka kadalu intikin!! How to bear the pain of killing so many friends, teachers and relatives? My head is reeling, let’s go home without delay. Did Arjuna not know that the people in opposite side were his relatives and friends prior to the war?!! But the young blood and chivalry in Arjuna made him speak so. It is the heart of the young and trend of the hot blood. Youth is like the passing cloud. The stage of youth comes in between and passes off. Why pride on the youth that comes in the middle and goes away? At the time of the war Krishna was seventy six years old. And Arjuna was seventy four. In those days seventy four year old were considered to be in the prime of their youth!! Eighteen years old are considered to be youth in the present day!! In Tretha yuga this age of eighteen was considered to be childhood. Till fifty years of age they were considered to be in childhood. The stage of youth started at the age of seventy five!! The commander-in-chief, Bhishma, was hundred and twelve years old!! The hundred and twelve year old person was the commander–in-chief!! What is the reason? The food and eating habits were the reason for their strength. Man ages early due to the modern food habits.

Divine Words of wisdom by Sathya Sai Baba – On India

Divine Words of wisdom by Sathya Sai Baba – With India Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram 2. India always prayed for the welfare of all Your browser does not support the audio element. 1996-06-22 Description From time immemorial the culture of Bharath by its spiritual strength has been bringing peace and security to all countries. It is only in Bharath that one prays for the peace and prosperity of all in the world, “Lokasamastha sukhino bhavanthu”. Everyone must be happy, all the countries should be happy. One should not be selfish by wishing for the welfare of only one’s country. All countries are parts of Bharath.   2. The greatness of India is forgotten by Indians today Your browser does not support the audio element. 1996-06-22 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description Isn’t Savitri, who could win her dead husband’s life back a woman of Bharath?! Isn’t Chandramati, who could put off the wild fire by the strength of her truth a woman of Bharath?! Isn’t Sita who could prove her chastity by entering the fire, the daughter of Bharath?! Isn’t Damayanti, who could burn the evil one to ashes by her anger a woman of Bharath?! Isn’t this land that is surrounded by the seven seas, fertile with the purity and sanctity of the Bharathiya race?! This treasury of great thoughts and feelings, Isn’t this a teacher for all nations?!! Bharath holds a place of a teacher to all other countries of the world. Such sanctity and greatness of Bharath is not known to the Bharathiyas today. A small progress of foreign countries is being considered as great achievement by the people of Bharath today. This is the plight of Bharath today. It is like the saying that one underplays the fresh and delicious home cooked food but relishes neighbour’s rotting food!! That is why people are after foreign countries without recognising the worth of homeland. What is this trend?    3. Swami on India and its culture; Analogy Your browser does not support the audio element. 1996-07-19 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description One must develop good thoughts. This is called “Vyaktigata Seelamu”, individual character. One can become a leader when one has individual character. People must develop the individual character for it gradually leads to national character. Individual character and national character both are important. One must develop the spirit of patriotism. But the youth today does not have the spirit of nationality. They do not know what nationality is. They only travel to the extent of “I, my people and my family”. No, it must include the country as “My Country”, Idi naadu matrudesamu, Idi naadu matrubhasha, Idi naa matamanchu, Yadagotti nudavanerani brathikina Peenugungokandu vasudhanu kalada?? “Is there anyone on earth who would declare With all pride that this is my motherland, this is my mother tongue, this is my religion?” Without the love for one’s motherland one would become a walking corpse. Hence one must develop the love and affection for one’s motherland. Attachment to one’s motherland is as important as one’s attachment to one’s body. Motherland is a reflection of one’s own body. Deha, the body and Desha, the country are but the object and its reflection.   9. Swami on ancient and modern culture Your browser does not support the audio element. 1979-05-25 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description When Brahma manifests with the four faces, the devotee looks at the manifestation and gets absorbed and lost in contemplation. But if a tiny ant begins to crawl on the back, we whack it with our palm. There is a great difference between what we profess and what we practice. When you believe that God is present even in the ant and when you feel that the ant is giving you trouble, you can brush it aside instead of killing it. It is necessary that we follow these paths in little things. We must learn to show and realise the presence of God. The ancient people have demonstrated several methods which proved this great truth. One small example. In ancient times women never stirred out of their homes. They did not have the opportunity to come out of their homes and take part in service activities. There was a strong desire in the hearts of the women confined to their homes to render service to creatures and to satisfy them. Then they adopted a very beautiful method. With the rice flour they used to make patterns in their courtyard. These patterns served dual purposes. One, it beautified the courtyards rendering them auspiciousness and secondly it served as food for the insects like the ants and bugs and satiated them. These patterns fed not only the ants and insects but also some birds. During the festive time of Sankranthi, ‘Dakshinayana’ (when the Sun traces its path from North to South), women used to fill the streets with these beautiful patterns. They used to consider Dakshinayana as the auspicious period for attainment of enlightenment. Crows, pigeons and other birds used to consume these grains of rice and felt happy and satisfied. This is the inner significance of the white patterns. Today’s modern women are also decorating their homes with patterns but they are using lime instead of rice flour which is not consumed by any creatures. It is only a pattern which appears beautiful, but it does not provide any opportunity to satisfy any creature. From times immemorial India has taught to the world at large the great ideals of sacrifice and service.   10. India has proclaimed that truth is one Your browser does not support the audio element. 1996-06-25 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description However, the same Atma was present in both of them. Truth is one and age becomes irrelevant where Truth is concerned. Truth is always one and there is no such thing as different truths for different castes such

Divine Words of wisdom by Sathya Sai Baba – On Health and healthcare

1. Health confers salvation or liberation, so protect your health Your browser does not support the audio element. 1983-10-08 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description Embodiments of love! All said and done, the summary of Swami’s talk is that health is of primary importance. For what purpose does one require health? It is required for experiencing the bliss of the soul, “atmananda”. One must never forget these two aspects. Man’s health is useless if he cannot experience atmananda. Such bodies which have health and strength, but do not experience bliss of the soul are a burden to the earth. One must realise the truth about oneself and enquire about one’s identity. Of what use is one’s existence when one cannot know the truth about oneself? Therefore one should not try to distinguish the spiritual and worldly experiences but bring them together to realise one’s true nature and to experience the divine bliss. One must develop love that is innate in every human and must never give scope to narrow-mindedness. One’s behaviour must not harm or hurt others for then alone one’s human life is sanctified.   2. Swami on the building up of equipments for better treatment of patients Your browser does not support the audio element. 1983-10-08 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description Patients from all over world are coming to here to get cured. So in order to provide proper facilities for them, a hospital with hundred beds will be established in November. It will have sophisticated set of equipments and instruments to carry out tests for detecting cancer, heart and brain disorders, and specialised x-ray machines- these facilities are not available elsewhere. The hospital with all these facilities will open in November.    3. When Swami can cure why hospitals: Beautiful examples Your browser does not support the audio element. 1983-10-08 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description Till date no doctor has been able to fathom the reason for the occurrence of cancer. One can know the cause upon pondering on it properly. Some might say that eating beetle leaves causes cancer; some say that smoking cigarettes and beedis causes cancer, yet others say that pollution causes cancer—all these contribute to cancer but are not the primary reason for causing cancer. When deeply enquired one finds that the real reason for occurrence of cancer is –sugar! Commercial sugar is made out of many chemicals. Powder of the bones is one of them. This content gets lodged in any part of the body causing a particular block. Blood has two types of cells namely the red blood cells and the white blood cells. Clogging of the white blood corpuscles at a particular point is the spot for cancer. This condition is called as “Lukoma”. This is the most important ingredient of cancer. In this lukoma the primary disadvantage of sugar, the chemical, adds up. Doctors today say that people who eat beetle leaves or those that smoke get cancer. But aren’t there many who do not do either but are still affected by cancer? The pollutants in air, water and in food only aid the cancer, but the primary cause for its occurrence is sugar. In olden days, the sugar was not decorated with such false make-ups. People used to use jaggery or powdered jaggery and were never affected by such diseases. But today everything is polluted and is artificial. Resorting to dubious ways to amass wealth and mint money, people are inviting such dangerous diseases. What for is the money when man himself is not there? Isn’t man more important than wealth?   5. We need to take foods which give strength: All Vitamins and proteins are needed for body Your browser does not support the audio element. 1983-10-08 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description Life sustaining food that is nourishing and nutritious must be eaten. But in this world under the influence of modern civilized lifestyle, people are eating food that is devoid of innate nourishment. This body requires proteins and vitamins A, B, C, D and E etc. One vitamin gives good sight to the eyes, one gives strength to the blood, one vitamin sustains the bones but for all this proteins are a must. It is called “protein” because it protects. One can sustain oneself longer if one has more of protein. Of all the food items the ones that contains more protein is the food that is uncooked and available naturally. A variety of pulses like green gram etc are used extensively even by the foreigners. Soya beans are also one of the grains that are used. Ground nut is called as ‘Indian soya beans’! It is rich in protein. What does one do with the pulses? One uses it in making sambar and rasam by cooking it thoroughly thereby depleting it of its life force and eating the same. For example the green gram or the Lobia beans – give more protein when they are eaten after being soaked in water. But man, being a victim to his palate and taste, eats it after cooking it with tamarind, oil, salt, etc and a result depriving him of the nourishment naturally available in them. Fruits too contain vitamins. Vegetables, too, give a lot of strength.   6. To maintain good health we need to maintain good diet: Weight loss is a must for maintaining good health Your browser does not support the audio element. 1983-10-08 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description A person has blood pressure. In the wake of the blood pressure, this person becomes a victim of diabetes. In the medical parlance it can be said that the blood pressure and diabetics are twins- one follows the other. It is a peculiar thing that when medicine for diabetes is taken blood pressure increases and when medicine for blood pressure is taken, diabetes increases. These two are a pair of opposites.

Divine Words of wisdom by Sathya Sai Baba – On God

Divine Words of wisdom by Sathya Sai Baba – With God 1. God is very soft, even to melt the butter one needs to use fire: Beautiful Analogy Your browser does not support the audio element. 1996-07-31 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description Be in constant communion with God in all the three states: waking, dream, and deep sleep (jagrat, swapna, and sushupti). You may be wondering how it is possible to cook food, do household work, or discharge your duties as a householder if you think of God all the time. Students may wonder how they can study, remember the lessons, and pass the examinations if they think of God always. There should be no room for such a doubt. Consider all the work you do as God’s work. When you cook food, the quantity should be proportional to the volume of the vessel used for cooking; also, suitable heat should be provided for cooking. If you have a small vessel, you should put only half a kilogram of rice in it. Then the cooking will be proper. If you put two kilograms of rice in a small vessel, you will not be able to cook. Not only that, you should supply only as much heat as necessary while cooking food. If you put a small vessel on a big flame, the vessel will get charred. When the food is getting cooked, gradually reduce the flame. In the same manner, you should enquire what is temporary and what is permanent in every aspect of your life. Once you cross a river, you don’t need the raft any more. In the same way, when the food is cooked, you don’t need the flame any more. So far as you are hungry, you require food. When your hunger is satiated, you don’t require any more food. But this does not mean that you should waste or destroy something after fulfilling a need. Just like burning the raft after crossing the river, One forgets God after one’s desires are fulfilled. Such is the ingratitude of modern humanity. The raft that has helped you cross the river should be kept at a safe place so that others can make use of it. In this manner, you should always do good to others. What is the use of burning the raft after crossing the river? It serves no purpose. After experiencing the bliss of contemplation on God, remain constantly immersed in it. Whatever you do —reading, writing, walking, talking, etc.— do it with divine feelings. Do not indulge in unnecessary talking, which is useless, useless, useless! Instead why don’t you talk about God? Don’t give scope to any useless talk. It is correct to spend your time in studies. Use your leisure time to do good deeds. That is true awareness. What does awareness signify? Awareness is chit, which means knowledge.    2. Festivals

Divine Words of wisdom by Sathya Sai Baba – With Festivals 1. Yagna signifies discarding bad qualities into the sacred fire Your browser does not support the audio element. 1987-10-02 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description To-day brings the week-long ritual (Saptaham) to an end. Strictly speaking ‘end’ means attaining Brahman. Recognizing the truth of unity in multiplicity is what attaining Brahman means to convey. Realizing the all-pervasive nature of Lord Siva (Shiva tattwam) is the essence of Brahman. We should discard all the bad qualities and evil thoughts into the sacred fire. We should aim at nurturing good thoughts and performing good deeds, from now onwards.   2. Sanctifying oneself is the message of Devi Navaratri Your browser does not support the audio element. 1992-09-27   Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description Commencement of ‘Devi Navaratri’ signify the sanctifying of thoughts and life by worshipping nature.    3. Understand the significance of Durgashtami Your browser does not support the audio element. 1992-09-27 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description Man must make an effort to recognise and understand the inner significance of ‘Durgashtami’. In Bharat from ancient times, the inner significance of the festivals was always associated with divinity. Every small festival was used to transform the feelings into divine feelings. That was the purpose of the festival days. Today one only concerns about the external rituals of a festival like putting a photo, offering worship all in an artificial manner. The types of worship offered are devoid of devotion and sincerity and filled with meaningless rituals. One should steady one’s body to have steady mind. If one’s body is continuously in motion, how can one steady one’s mind? Mind can be compared to the water in a pot. When the pot is moved, the water inside too will move. That is why one needs to train one’s body to be still in meditation. Meditation includes control of body. A steady body holds a steady mind. Intellect blossoms only when both the mind and the body are steady. Wisdom shines when intellect blossoms and once wisdom shines, one gets liberated. One is unable to control the body and sit still for two minutes and even the sitting posture is not correct. When one sits with a bent spinal cord, the nerves ‘ida’ and ‘pingala’ get disturbed. The power of ‘Kundalini’ which travels from ‘Mooladhara’ or the last vertebra of the spine to the first, goes in the wrong way thus making today’s man a mad monkey; not just a monkey but a mad monkey! A monkey cannot sit still even for a moment; it goes on moving one limb or the other. Its looks are also not steady. The reason for man’s fidgeting is the fact that man has evolved from monkey and though he has developed, the traits of the monkey behaviour still remain. These ‘navaratris’ are celebrated to encourage sacred feelings in man and make him travel towards divinity by destroying his ignorance and ego. No one is making an effort to know the purpose of the festivals. During the Navaratri, women keep a display of dolls of various kinds and worship them. That is not what one is supposed to do. All the dolls represent the physical world which is perishable. By worshipping the perishables one has to attain the imperishable Divine; that is the power latent in man.   4. Significance behind ‘Devi Navaratri’ Your browser does not support the audio element. 1992-09-27   Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description That person is truly a human being, who is sanctified by the unity of thought, word and deed. The heart can be compared to goddess of wealth Lakshmi. The words can be compared to goddess of knowledge Saraswathi. The power of doing deeds can be compared to Goddess Durga. Hence it is said: “Manasyekam, vachasyekam, karmanyekam, aatmanam!” – Unity in thought, word and deed makes a man great. The Devi Navaratri signify that man can sanctify his life by bringing about the unity of thought, word and deed and live as human being by getting rid of ignorance.   5. Vasudhaikakutumbhakam is the message of Sankranti Your browser does not support the audio element. 1996-01-15 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description Students should behave in a very respectful manner, should respect the elders, love the parents, respect others and should develop feelings of trust towards the country. That is the nationality feeling. “This is the country I was born in. I must protect my motherland. This is my motherland. This my mother tongue, this is my religion. Is there a man courageous, who on earth who has not stood up for these feelings?” Without the feelings of- “My country, my mother tongue, and my religion” a man is like a living corpse. Those feelings must be there but just as one has the feelings of patriotism for one’s country, one look upon another’s country too in the same light. All people of different country must live in unity and harmony. It must develop into one big family. The occasion that brings forth such divine transformation is “Sankranthi’. One must achieve peace in Sankranthi, develop peace and attract peace.   6. We should change our vision and direction from Sankranti Your browser does not support the audio element. 1996-01-15 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description What must be changed today? The vision, words and hearing must be directed in proper way. That is the true meaning of the word, “sankramana” movement. Without sacred transformation there is no use of celebrating any number of Sankranti festivals. People eat and enjoy the sweetness of the sweet pancake “ariselu”, but the sweetness lasts only as long as one eats it, later on it turns bitter. Happiness is not got by eating the pancake. Festivals are not for sweets and puddings. The significance of festivals lies

Doctors

Divine Words of wisdom by Sathya Sai Baba – With Doctors 1. Doctors are verily God Your browser does not support the audio element. 1983-10-08 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description This (hospitals) is not meant for just serving the patients but is also a means for the doctors to realise themselves through service. These doctors are no ordinary beings: “vaidyo narayano harihi” doctors are verily the avatars of Narayana. It is said so because of the capacity to cure and save lives that lies in their hands. Dr. Rajeshwari, who spoke earlier, has said, “Though it is our hands that work,it is Swami who works through them.” “Dil mein ram haath mein kaam”,Lord in the heart and hands in the work. One must do the work with the Lord in one’s heart. For Swami to give strength one must have hands isn’t it? If one does not have hands how can Swami give the strength? Hence the negative and the positive must come together. Therefore Swami wishes the doctors to work with a spirit of service and sacrifice and reduce, to the extent possible, deaths due to diseases.   2. Doctors working in our hospitals are extremely fortunate: Swami on different devotee doctors Your browser does not support the audio element. 1983-10-08 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description Certainly the doctors serving in these hospitals are very fortunate. Dr. Rajeshwari working in the hospital at Whitefield, Bangalore is a diligent worker. Her entire team of doctors and nurses, who assist her, render service wholeheartedly and lovingly. They do not charge even a pie as they are devout devotees. There are no doctors who are on the payrolls of hospitals either here or there. The doctors consider their service as service to Swami and do it. There is Dr. Alreja and other doctors from Sri Lanka and from Uttar Pradesh have come to these hospitals considering sacrifice and service to be their life goal.   3. Sacrifice is the hallmark of a true doctor Your browser does not support the audio element. 2001-01-19 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description Fortunately people have acquired the required education and have become big doctors but what is the quality that is essential to a doctor? Sacrifice is the hallmark of a doctor. A doctor without the spirit of sacrifice is useless. So doctors must inculcate the spirit of sacrifice and realise that it is the one that grants peace in life. The doctors must be considerate and kind towards the poor and the needy for that is love and compassion in true sense. Doctors must redeem their lives by developing love in their hearts and by serving the needy. There are many people who lose their lives due to lack of money. Life exists not because of money but because of love. Hence one must develop love and a spirit of sacrifice for, the more one indulges in sacrifice the more the world prospers.   4.Swami’s words of appreciation for doctor’s Your browser does not support the audio element. 1993-02-07   Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description Embodiments of love!! All the assembled here have come from far off places bearing all the inconveniences. There are many conferences and various symposia taking place in the world but none of the decisions taken in those are implemented. This conference is not like those. All the participants have come here whole-heartedly and so should try to implement the decisions taken here. There is no use if the assembled people return back with the same thoughts that they arrived with. A hungry person goes to a hotel; if he returns hungry from the hotel, what is the use of going to the hotel? There is no use going to the hotel. Similarly the participants of this conference have come here to know many things, to teach many things; there is no use if they return as they have come. The good thing that one can carry from this conference is ‘encouragement’ and one’s happiness lies in it. With this happiness one can accomplish anything. Swami wishes that all the participants return happily. The participants have given good advice’s and have good experience. It is a good fortune to have experienced and great doctors come to the hospital and give advice’s for its growth and development. Those advice’s are whole-heartedly accepted and assurance is given that measures will be taken to implement them. Plans have been devised for the hospital walls and for the urology and neurology departments as per the suggestions of the doctors. Swami wishes the participants to share their experiences with the doctors here from time to time giving them encouragement. The participants are always welcome to visit this place to see and enjoy without any objections as it is their hospital and their property and not Swami’s. Swami says that the participants are Swami’s property and they need not wait to be invited and can visit their home anytime. Many experienced people have come here to participate in this conference. In no other conference will there be such peace and sacred ideas being expressed openly. All other conferences are marred by arguments. Here the conference concluded peacefully, and as Mr.Somnath said, it seemed like a sacred temple and not a hospital. Therefore suitable prayers must be made in this temple. What are those prayers? One can pray for success in every case and peace and harmony for everyone. Today this conference is happy to set an ideal for the entire world. Swami brings His discourse to a close by blessing the entire humanity to be healthy, peaceful, happy and prosperous.   5. Dharma

Divine Words of wisdom by Sathya Sai Baba – With Dharma 1. All our acts must be done righteously Your browser does not support the audio element. 1996-06-22 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description Dharma, righteousness, is important for everything. The dharma should be with compassion. Therefore all the four objectives of life viz, ‘dharma’ righteousness, ‘artha’ wealth, ‘kama’ desires and ‘moksha’ liberation must commence with dharma. ‘Artha’, wealth is needed but it should be earned in righteous manner. ‘Kama’ desires must be fulfilled righteously. Therefore those that are attained with dharma have also the element of compassion.   2. When you lead life with Dharma, Artha and Kama in proper balance, you will attain Moksha Your browser does not support the audio element. 1983-10-08 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description With the unison of the three aspects namely dharma, artha and kama, one naturally attains moksha, liberation. In marriage ceremony, the priest recites, “dharmecha, arthecha, kamecha naathicharami” “You shall follow your partner in dharmecha, righteousness, arthecha, in acquiring wealth, and in fulfilling desires, kamecha.” But the priest does not say anything about moksha, liberation. What is the reason? When the dharma, artha and kama are experienced through fair means, moksha is inevitable. But due to the influence of the kali, man keeps moksha alone in sight forgetting all about the dharma, artha and Kama. People are not experiencing the dharma, artha and Kama through proper means. One attains liberation when one experiences the three aspects through fair and proper means. How can one aspire to attain liberation, without experiencing the dharma, artha and Kama through righteous means? Hence one must seek artha, wealth through righteous means. With the wealth so earned, one must fulfil one’s desires. How should one experience the desires? It must be done so with righteousness. How should one earn the wealth? It must be earned with righteousness. It is said that the wealth without righteousness and desires without righteousness will not confer moksha, liberation. Dhanadhaanyamulu kaligi Dharma gunambunna, santhathi ledane chintha yundu, Vidyaadhikaari ayi virraveeguchunna Udyogamukoraku vethalanondu, Kootiki lekanu alladuchunnatti nirupedakendaro biddalunduru! One might have prosperity, material wealth and righteousness too, but is seized with sorrow of being childless, Being arrogant of high education one finds it difficult to find a job, A poor man labouring to make both ends meet has many children! What is the cause? When one does not experience in the proper way, these miseries arise. When one experiences the purushardhas namely the dharma, artha and kama in a proper way then, there will not be any scope for sorrow or troubles. It is food that governs these three aspects.   3. Dharma and Adharma Your browser does not support the audio element. 1999-11-19 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description Embodiments of Love! The flux that you see in the world is the dance of Shiva. This is something which one cannot see, one cannot comprehend and understand. There are the waves of night and day, death and life which go on forever. It is something very natural that we have death and birth. Dharma (righteousness) and unrighteousness is also very natural. When dharma increases, naturally adharma declines. When unrighteousness increases, dharma naturally declines. The reason for dharma and adharma are men and women. Man is under delusion, because he cannot recognize the divinity within himself.

Desire

Divine Words of wisdom by Sathya Sai Baba – With Desire 1. Limitless human desires are the cause for unrest Your browser does not support the audio element. 1992-09-27 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description Many people due to the impact and influence of the Kali age, perceive the relationship with the divine as a bodily relationship and are given to many doubts. This is because of the development of worldly feelings and approach. What is meant by ‘worldly feelings’? The worldly feeling is associated with the five sensory elements. This nature is made up of sensory pleasures and the spiritual world is one of sacrifice and renunciation. When one develops the spirit of sacrifice, then alone can one truly be entitled to enjoy. That is why it is said, “Immortality can be obtained only by sacrifice”. But today man is ready for giving up. Today’s man spoils his head with excessive desires. There is no limit for desires at all. Hence there is a decline in human life. Mind is also polluted. The word is full of lies. Wherever he sets his foot, there is injustice; the thoughts too are devoid of divine approach; there is no limit for man’s desires. The life force or the Chaitanya is on a decline; all the goodness is fast disappearing. Enmity and jealousy are on a rise. Desire and anger have bound man helplessly. Truly, the human nature is not to be found in man. The man today lives life without the humanness. A man can be called truly a man when he has the human quality in him. What is this human quality? Following the dictates of the heart is the quality of humanness. One must follow one’s conscience.   2. Increased desires leads to diminishing of will power Your browser does not support the audio element. 1987-11-21 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description Fame can be compared to a river. A river may originate as a trickle but as its flow increases it grows wide and deep. It is the thought that develops the will power in man. The power of speech, the power of discrimination, the power of intellect, the power to take decisions all originate from will power. When one has pure and sacred will power, one can even attain the position of Indra, the Lord of the celestials. Everyone has the will power. What is the reason behind the diminishing will power in man? As desires increase in man, his will power decreases. The will power in man is haphazardly due to the unlimited desires of man. Man does not enjoy the peace and prosperity entitled to him because of the weakening of will power in him. One can try to practice certain things to get a firsthand experience of the above said fact. One may have twenty desires like the desire to drink tea, coffee, liquor, to smoke, to play cards etc. When one gives up the desires one by one, one can see a growth and improvement in one’s will power. Hence it is the desires that are responsible for the increase or decrease in one’s will power. How can one control the desires? One must observe and enquire into certain things: where was the world before one’s birth? Every being that takes birth must die. Where is the world after one’s death? This world comes and goes and exists between birth and death. It is sheer foolishness to crave for such a transitory world. This world can be compared to a mirror. One’s reflection is seen in the mirror so long as one stands in front of it. One cannot see one’s reflection if the mirror is removed. One must realise that it is not worthy to waste the precious life for the transitory, impermanent, unstable worldly desires.   3. Less Desires, More Comfort Your browser does not support the audio element. 2000-11-23 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description Don’t have too many desires. Reduce your desire. Grow desire for God. If you have desire for God, you would be very happy. The worldly desires, responsibilities, obligations will be naturally more and more. You think that you are unburdening yourself, it’s a mistake. The more desires you have, less happier you would be. Once the desires decreases, the bliss increases. Why are you not happy? Because desires are growing, increasing day by day and so you are not happy. When once you put a check or a ceiling on the desire, you will be happy more and more.   4. Man’s quest must be for God rather than for food Your browser does not support the audio element. 1973-05-24 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description In defining a good man, Vemana said that the individual who suffers if he is hungry, who harbours evil, who is burning with anger, and who indulges in promoting intrigue may be said to be a bad man. All others are good people. That man should spend his energy to relieve his hunger has been looked upon with ridicule by the poet Vemana. He draws attention to the fact that even animals and birds do not spend so much effort and time to get relief when they are hungry. When that is so, how is it that man, who is superior to the animals and birds, spends so much time and effort in search of his food. Who provides the food for the birds in the forest? Who feeds the animals in the forest when they are hungry? Who gives water to the trees that thrive in the forest? God, who finds the food for the frog that is trapped between a pair of large stones, will certainly provide food for the human beings, who are so close to Him. Under such circumstances, it is not right that man should hanker after food. On the other hand, he should go after realisation
