Divinity

Divinity Divinity pervades all that you see, hear and feel. Being in the constant company of such an all-pervasive divinity, why should you worry and fear.Sri Sathya Sai Baba, born as Sathyanarayana Raju on November 23, 1926, in Puttaparthi, India, is revered by millions around the world as a divine incarnation, spiritual master, and humanitarian. His life was a living example of unconditional love, compassion, and service. He proclaimed himself to be the reincarnation of Shirdi Sai Baba and declared his mission to restore righteousness (Dharma) and guide humanity toward spiritual awakening. Central to Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s teachings was the message of universal love and unity of all religions. He consistently emphasized that all faiths lead to the same divine source. His famous sayings, “Love All, Serve All” and “Help Ever, Hurt Never,” are not just slogans but principles that inspire millions to lead selfless lives. He taught that true spirituality lies in recognizing the same divine presence in all beings and acting with compassion and humility. Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s life was filled with accounts of miraculous events — from materializing sacred ash (vibhuti), healing illnesses, to appearing to devotees in dreams and visions across the world. While skeptics viewed these with doubt, countless followers considered these miracles to be outward expressions of his divine nature. For them, however, the greatest miracle was his ability to transform lives — turning individuals toward truth, service, and self-discipline. His divinity was not merely in mystical acts but in his boundless love and service to humanity. Through the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, he established free hospitals, schools, universities, and major water supply projects, benefiting millions, especially the underprivileged. His super-specialty hospitals, offering advanced surgeries free of cost, and educational institutions, imparting value-based education, are enduring examples of his message in action. — Sathya Sai Baba, Sanathana Sarathi, May 2001

Desire

Desire Desire is like the shadow caused by the morning sun; it gets longer when you run to catch; it makes you a fool. Desire is the worst enemy; it ruins many a human life. Desire when fulfilled breeds further desire. Desire leads to ultimate ruin; It can never be destroyed by fulfilment; Dispel desire; Develop true love. — From the discourses of Sathya Sai Baba Desire is storm, Greed is whirlpool, Pride is precipice, Attachment is avalanche, And ego is volcano. Discard these and you will be liberated. Desire is a bonfire that burns with greater fury, asking for more fuel. Desire is the sole cause of sorrow and distress. —From the discourses of Sathya Sai Baba

Death

Death A human body is associated with six stages of transformation: birth, growth, change, evolution, death and destruction. Death accepts no excuse. Tears do not move its heart. Death gives advance notice of his arrival to take you — notice in the form of grey hair, falling teeth, failing vision, folding of the skin etc. Death may call any moment. Every moment, everyone is nearing death. Death is not a deplorable event. It is the journey’s end. — From the discourses of Sathya Sai Baba Death involves certain developments that weaken and extinguish life. It does not affect the Atma; the Atma has no death. It cannot be destroyed. Therefore, one should not fear death. Death is but another stage of life. However long one suffers from illness or however severe the injury, death can happen only when Time signals the right moment. When the yearning for living ends, there can be no more birth. — Sathya Sai Baba, Vidya Vahini It is a living death if one is obsessed by pride, ego and anger. — From the discourses of Sathya Sai Baba Swami’s thoughts on Death  Following are some quotes on the topic of Death, picked from the Divine discourses of Swami. The baby weeps as soon as it is born because the individual being has no desire to get entangled in the objective world once again. Science describes it as the process of breathing for the first time and clearing of the air passages. But why should it weep? The process can be started by some other way, say, shaking or shivering, is it not?               This life which begins with a wail must end with a smile. When you were a little baby, all around you smiled though you kept on wailing. But when you die round you weep at the loss, you should smile in peace and quiet resignation. Reduce your wants. Minimize your desires. When death deprives you of resistance, your kith & kin take off the nosestud and in their haste, they may even cut the nose to retrieve it. If you go on heaping desire upon desire, it will be impossible to depart gladly when the call comes. Do not attach yourself too much to the body or to the things that bring comfort to it. You earn three friends in this life: When once Brahma asked sage Naaradha what was the most amazing thing he noticed on earth, Naaradha replied, ‘The most amazing thing I saw was this: The dying are weeping over the dead.’ Those who are themselves nearing death every moment are weeping over those who have died, as if their weeping has an effect, either to revive the dead or prevent their own death! Grief sends you to God. When a child dies, ask yourself the question, ‘Is it for my sake that he was born?’ He had his own destiny to fulfil, his own history to work out. Gauthama Buddha’s father was so overcome with grief when he saw his son with a begging bowl in the street, that he told him thus: ‘Everyone of my ancestors was a King. What misfortune is this that a beggar was born in this line?’ Buddha replied ‘Every one of my ancestors had a beggar’s bowl, I know of no king in my line.’ Feel that you are born with the dawn of every day; that you nestle in the lap of death when your eyes close in sleep. For, what happens in deep sleep? The body, the senses, the mind, the intelligence – all is negated and there is no trace of awareness of the world. Know that waking from sleep is but birth and going into sleep is death. Forgetting the primary goal of life, man wastes his time. Time is precious. Death is dangling its sword over every head. Our life span is fast diminishing, like water leaking through a broken pot or a melting block of ice. Death overtakes man even before he realizes his mission in life. When we want to go to a cinema, or for an evening walk, we get ready by putting on our shoes. When we want to visit a nearby town, we pack our clothes in a bag. But what preparations do you make for the ultimate journey, the voyage of death? All are beggars at the gate of God. The hero is he who does not beg or cringe or flatter or fawn. He knows that the Lord knows best.

Character

Character The first step in the Sadhana is the cleansing of the speech. Talk sweet without anger. The body will shine if the character is fine; service of man and worship of God will preserve its charm. Forget the harm that anyone has done to you, and forget the good that you have done to others. If wealth is lost, nothing is lost.If health is lost, something is lost.If character is lost, all is lost. The minimum qualifications for Grace is surrender of ego. Don’t waste money Don’t waste time Don’t waste food Don’t waste energy The less you talk, the more will become your mental power. With the increase in your mental capacity, there will be increase in your power of discrimination too. The end of wisdom is freedom. The end of culture is perfection. The end of knowledge is love. The end of education is character. When one cultivates the inner look, one attains the conviction of the basic equality of all. The joy of being the master of senses is far greater than being their slave. Bend the body, mend the senses and end the mind – this is the way to Immortality Haste makes waste; Waste makes worry; So do not be in a hurry. Man minus immorality is Immortality. You should completely forget the help rendered by you to others and the harm done to you by others. If animal feelings are washed out, Divine feelings begin to overflow instead. Watch your Words, Action, Thoughts, Character and Heart. What you would desire others to do for you, you should do for others. You should respect others as you want to be respected by them. Anger, ego, jealousy are the biggest diseases.Keep yourself aloof from these three diseases.Anger cannot be destroyed by anger and cruelty by cruelty.Anger can be subdued only by forbearance and cruelty can be overcome only by nonviolence.Anger is like an intoxicant; it reduces man and degrades him to the level of an animal. Think before speaking. Think before acting. Then go ahead If you feel good about it. Watch Your WordsWatch Your ActionWatch Your ThoughtsWatch Your ThoughtsWatch Your CharacterWatch Your Heart If there is righteousness in the heart, There will be beauty in the character. If there is beauty in the character, There will be harmony in the home. When there is harmony in the home, There will be order in the nation. When there is order in the nation, There will be peace in the world. We can be successful leaders only if we are disciplined followers, who do not issue commands to others but rather set an example of service in our actions. You should see that no dirt settles upon the mind; that is to say, you should move about in such company that dirt is avoided. Falsehood, injustice, indiscipline, cruelty, hate — these form the dirt; Sathya, Dharma, Shanthi, Prema — these form the clean elements. Do not waste a single moment, in idling or loose living. See goodHear goodSpeak goodDo goodBe good With good and sweet words, keeping desires under check and control (for ultimate removal), one should start on the path of sacrifice. Doing one’s duty, however small, in an unattached manner gives rise to the awakening of self awareness. Desire destroys devotion, anger destroys wisdom, greed destroys work – hence these bad qualities must be sacrificed. If you honor your mother, the Mother of the universe will guard you against harm.If you honor your father, the Father of all Beings will guard you.If you honor your parents, your children will honor you. The secret of happiness is not doing what one likes to do but in liking what one has to do. Bear all and do nothing; Hear all and say nothing; Give all and take nothing; Serve all and be nothing. Make your life a rose, that speaks silently in the language of fragrance. Greed yields only sorrow; contentment is best. You are not one person, but three: The one you think you are; The one others think you are; The one you really are. The mother is the pillar of the home, of society, of the nation, and so of humanity itself. If it is good and will harm no one, go ahead. If it is not good, put it aside. If not sure, do nothing until sure. I – Want – Peace “I” is ego. “Want” is desire. Remove ego and desire and you have peace. Learn to speak what you feel, and act what you speak.

Quotes on devotional singing (bhajans)

Quotes on devotional singing (bhajans) Sing aloud the glory of God and charge the atmosphere with divine adoration . . . This is why I insist on group singing of the names of the Lord. (SSS, VI, 239) [Devotional singing (bhajans)] is the process of singing that originates in the heart, not from the lips or the tongue. It is the expression of the joyous thrill that wells up from the heart when the Glory of God is remembered. It is the spontaneous manifestation of inner ecstasy. No attention is paid to the blame or praise that others may give. It does not seek the admiration or the appreciation of the listeners. (SSS X, 84) Devotional singing (bhajan) is one of the processes by which you can train the mind to expand into eternal values. Teach the mind to revel in the glory and majesty of God; wean it away from petty horizons of pleasure… Devotional singing induces in you a desire for experiencing the truth, to glimpse the beauty that is God, to taste the bliss that is the Self. It encourages man to dive into himself and be genuinely his real Self. (SSS VII, 497-498) Devotional singing (bhajan) is a spiritual practice (sadhana) for all who share in it. (Sai Bhajana Mala, 30) Remember, every song sung in praise of the Lord is a sword that cuts the knots of laziness. It is a fine piece of social service to remind all of their duty to the Almighty, who watches over them.  (The Holy Man and the Psychiatrist, by Sam Sandweiss, 134) People say that when you go to Sai Baba, there is nothing but devotional singing (bhajan). Realize that there is nothing greater than bhajan. What bliss is there in bhajans! What a demonstration of oneness is it when a myriad throats join in uttering the name of God! The vibrations emanating from them make the heart vibrant. If you sing alone in your shrine, the vibrations return to you as a reaction. But in community singing, what you have is not a reaction but a wave of vibrations. They enter into the atmosphere and purify the polluted air. The atmosphere today is polluted by bad thoughts and feelings. When you sing the glory of God, the bad germs in the air are destroyed and the air gets purified by a treatment of anti-biotics, as it were.  SS, Jan. 1995, 26) When all the participants in a bhajan sing in unison, what sacred vibrations are produced and what Divine energies are released! When these vibrations fill the world, what changes cannot they bring about! When one sings alone, the heart is merged in the song. But when many sing together, it acquires a Divine power. (Sai Bhajana Mala, 30) Those who sing bhajans get what can be called a ‘double promotion’, for they derive joy and distribute joy. (SSS X, 101) God is omnipresent. He is the in-dweller of every heart and all names are His. So you can call Him by any name that gives you joy. You must not cavil at other names and forms, nor become fanatics, blind to their glory. When you sing bhajan songs, dwell on the meaning of the songs and the message of each name and form of God and roll on your tongue its sweetness. (The Holy Man and the Psychiatrist, by Sam Sandweiss, 134) Some people … question the propriety of calling God by means of … a multiplicity of names. But each name is indicative of only one aspect of Divinity. It denotes a single part of the Supreme Personality … Every name is but a facet, a part, a ray of the Supreme. The spiritual discipline consists in recognising and becoming aware of the One that supports and sustains the many. That is the precious gem of wisdom that one must secure and treasure. (SSS X, 87) The procession to the cremation ground starts immediately on birth and the beating of the heart is the drum beat for the march towards that place. Some take a longer route, some reach quickly, but all are on the way. Therefore, devotional singing (bhajan) has to start in the childhood and has to continue. It must be the constant companion of man, his solace and strength. Do not postpone it to old age, for it is essential food for the mind.  (SSS I, 123) Devotional singing (bhajan) must become an unbroken stream of bliss on your tongues and in your hearts; it must confer on you the uninterrupted awareness of soham, of the unity of I and He.  (SSS IX, 41-42) The tongue is the post, devotional singing (bhajan) is the rope; with that rope, you can bring God Almighty near you and tie Him up so that His grace becomes yours. (SSS VII, 52) Desire and anger are… two enemies. Devotional singing … is a good disciplinary process by which these two can be kept away. (SSS X, 100) Take for example, there is a tree. It is full of birds. They make a mess all over. How to get rid of these noisy ones?  You should clap loudly. Similarly, in this tree of life, there are birds of desire. The heart therefore becomes dirty. In order to cleanse it, do devotional singing (bhajans).  (Kodaikanal Discourse, April 12, 1996) Think of [devotional singing (bhajan)] as a part of spiritual training to be seriously taken for reducing the attachment to fleeting objects, and purifying and strengthening you, liberating you from the cycle of birth and death and consequent misery. It may appear a frail cure for such a dreadful malady. Nevertheless, it is a panacea. (The Holy Man and the Psychiatrist, by Sam Sandweiss, 132) In this busy age of fear and anxiety, the remembrance of God and repetition of His name is the one means of liberation that is accessible to all. (Sai Bhajana Mala, 30) Let your whole life be a spiritual song. Believe that God is everywhere at all times, and derive strength,

Akhanda Bhajans

Akhanda Bhajans The joy we get from singing bhajans and by performing worship is temporary. But by experiencing the essence of “Soham” Mantra, you will get eternal joy. This soham is also known by the name “Hamsa Gayatri”. “So” means “that”, “Ham” means “I am”. “I am that” is the meaning of Soham. You should chant Soham with every breath. When you breathe, you are inhaling “So” and you are exhaling “Ham”. If we repeat Soham Mantra with every inhalation and exhalation of breath, it will do a lot of good to you. Repeat “Soham” with every breath and watch your breath carefully. When you sing Bhajans, take care that the words you utter do not convey negative meanings. Here is an example. Our boys sing many Hindi Bhajans, in which they often use the word ‘Thu’ meaning ‘you’. They sing ‘Thu Rama’, ‘Thu Krishna’, ‘Thu Sai’. (You are Rama, you are Krishna, you are Sai, etc.) But in Telugu, the letter ‘Thu’ conveys a derogatory meaning. You may use ‘Thu Hai’ instead of ‘Thu’. The Bhajans you sing must convey sacred meanings. You should not give scope for disrespectful words. While doing Bhajans, you may sing various songs with different tunes and beats but your mind should be constantly fixed on the Atma. All your actions must be done with the sole purpose to please God. Arjuna asked Lord Krishna as to how he can fight in the war if he has to constantly think of God. Krishna replied, “O simpleton, it is your body and the senses which are involved in the warfare. Such being the case, you can always focus the mind on God.” You should sanctify yourself and the atmosphere around by chanting the divine name. What is the purpose of doing Bhajans? Chanting of the divine name purifies the atmosphere by sending sacred vibrations in to it. These vibrations, set off by the chanting of the divine name, destroy evil and impure feelings deeply ingrained in man. People do Bhajans without understanding their significance. Instead of focusing their attention on God, they are bothered too much about the tune and the rhythm. No doubt, tune and rhythm are also essential in Bhajans, but once you fill your heart with Divine love, the tune and the rhythm will automatically be taken care of. If you concentrate too much on the tune and the rhythm, you will not be able to think of God. Just as the iron ball cast in fire becomes one with it, your mind should become one with God. Water cannot be separated from milk; likewise, your mind should get merged in God. You should not think that you are separate from God. The role of bhajans in purifying the atmosphere should be recognized. In this context, the role of community singing should be understood. Singing bhajans in your home, you may indulge in your fancies and derive whatever joy you get thereof. “Sankirtan” (community singing) calls for whole headed, soulful singing, which moves the hearts of the listeners. Bhajans should not be a routine ritual. You must put your heart and soul into the singing. In reciting the names of the Lord you have to bear in mind another fact. When you recite the names thousands of devotees are listening. You must chant names which are familiar to all of them. You should not expect people to follow whatever you sing. You should see that they can easily respond to your song. The names you chant should be short and sweet. If you use big words and complicated terms, the devotees will not be able to follow you. In that situation they may get depressed. What can they do when they do not hear you properly and cannot respond in chorus? They get disgusted. Therefore, in your bhajans use short names like Rama, Krishna, Allah, Yesu and so on. Then all would be able to follow you with ease. If you use high sounding words, few can follow you. Eschew any aversion to any faith or nation. Have no ill will towards any one. Do not cause hurt to anyone. Look upon all alike. This feeling of oneness should spread all over the world. Realize that there is nothing greater than bhajan. What bliss is there in bhajans! What a demonstration of oneness is it when a myriad throats join in uttering the name of God! The vibrations emanating from them make the heart vibrant. If you sing alone in your shrine, the vibrations return to you as reaction. But in community singing, what you have is not a reaction but a wave of vibrations. They enter into the atmosphere and purify the polluted air. The atmosphere today is polluted by bad thoughts and feelings. When you sing the glory of God, the bad germs in the air are destroyed and the air gets purified by a treatment with antibiotics as it were. Bhajans are therefore supremely valuable. It has been said that in the Kali Age there is no greater spiritual practice than chanting the name of the Lord. Let one remember the name of Raama at the time of passing, whether he is a millionaire or a pauper, whether he is a scholar or an illiterate. Sing the name of the Lord and redeem your lives! Today we are having the Akhanda Bhajan (nonstop twenty-four-hour global bhajan by Sai devotees all over the world). This is being done not for the sake of one individual, one nation or one community. It is for the welfare of humanity as a whole. The bhajans that are sung permeate the ether in the form of sound waves and fill the entire atmosphere. Thereby the whole environment gets purified. Breathing in this purified atmosphere, our hearts get purified. Reciting the Lord’s name is a process of give and take. Singing the Lord’s name should become an exercise in mutual sharing of joy and holiness. It should be remembered that the sounds we produce reverberate in the atmosphere. They remain permanently in the ether as waves and outlast the individual uttering the sounds. Community bhajans should not be treated as a pastime. When thousands of persons join in singing bhajans, they should be fully absorbed in the devotional

Swami’s Words of Wisdom

Swami’s Words of Wisdom Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba Human desire is illimitable and without end. It makes you pursue the mirage in the desert; it makes you build castles in the air; it breeds discontent and despair, once you succumb to it. But develop the thirst for Krishna; you discover the cool spring of Ananda within you. Krishna Nama makes you very strong and steady; it is sweet and sustaining. Mine, not thine, this sense of greed is the root of all evil. This distinction is applied even to God!- my God, not yours! Your God, not mine! Your life is really like a tapestry. You look at one side and see all the disconnected and loose ends, and say, ‘What a mess my life is!’ God sees the finished product on the other side and sighs, ‘How beautiful you have become!’ The individual born in the lake of Society must swim and float in the calm waters, and joining the River of Progress, merge into the Ocean of Grace; Man has to move from the stance of ‘I’ to the position of ‘We’. To this day, we see only the wild dance of go-stricken individuals, who hate society and behave most unsociably. All men have two constables ever with them; They are the symbols of his sentence of imprisonment. They are ‘Abhiman’ (Sense of I) over ‘Mamakar’ (sense of mine), the egoistic feeling and the pride of possession. Man is a prisoner of his senses as long as these two keep him under guard. Man strays away into misery and pain, because he loses the sense of value and runs after the temporary and the trivial. He ignores the voice of God which warns and guides him from within; and he pays the penalty for the transgression. Man is equipped with a return-ticket when he takes birth. Holding it in his grasp, he earns and spends, rises and falls, sings and dances, weeps and wails, forgetting the end of the journey. But though he forgets, the wagon of life moves toward the cemetery, which is its terminus. It brings no glory to man if he is tied helplessly to the wheel of birth and death. His glory and greatness consist in disentangling himself from that revolving wheel. Do not consider any act of service as demeaning. Sweeping the streets, for example, is not below your dignity. Do you not sweep the floor of your homes? Do you not scrub and wash off dirt? When you undertake such tasks, the villagers will also gladly share in them. Why feel ashamed to be good? The ridicule that may be cast on you has been the reward of many saints. It will soon fade away. Muhammad was driven out of Mecca by those who could not appreciate his teachings. Jesus was crucified. But their names resound in the heart of millions. Remember, God is your guardian, when you sleep; when you are helpless; even when you have forgotten or neglected or discarded Him. He has no need you offer or promise to offer. He is ever content, ever blissful, ever full and ever free. Do your duty to yourself – that is enough offering for Him. You may have a vast scholarship, fame or fortune. But, the bee can give you a lesson on how to be free from torment. The tree can teach you forbearance and tolerance. It offers shade to all, irrespective of age, sex or religion, nationality or status. It helps with fruit and shade even to the foe who lays his axe on its trunk! The dog can teach you a lesson in Faith, Self-less service and the process of Dedication. There is only one God and He is Omnipresent”. True. But to concentrate on the Omnipresent, some fixed point or preliminary form is needed. And to conceive of the Divine as present everywhere and at all times, the mind of man is to be clarified and purified by means of a certain psychological process called Sadhana. My activities are not for publicity or propaganda or even to confer joy on others! They are for conferring joy primarily on Me! I have no need to please others and to earn approval or appreciation. For, I and you are not different entities; you are I; and I am you. I am the current that flows into every bulb and illuminates it. Those who see me as separate are seeing falsehood. I am in your hearts; you are in Mine. Don’t be misled into doubt and distress. Dogs may bark and jackals howl; but Truth moves Majestically forward. A person being transferred from one Goal to another will have two constables who will escort him; the ‘Punya’ and the ‘Papa’ ( good consequences and the bad consequences of actions) are the consequences who lead man from one birth to another. If you must escape from their attention and avoid migration from one Goal to another, act – but do not calculate the consequences. That is to say, do not worry about the consequence; leave it to God who prompted the act and made it possible. Dedicate the act, the will and the wish, all to God. Happiness and peace do not follow when man is fed well, clothed well, housed well, and educated up to a good standard and employed under comfortable conditions, with no injury to health or security. There are many who have all these in plenty but who are yet worried or in pain or discontented. They depend on the inner equipment of man, not his outer skill or riches. The ultimate step of Self-realisation depends upon the base of Self-confidence. You must therefore develop as a first step Confidence in your own self. Without having and developing Confidence in your own self, if all the time you are talking of some power being with someone else, if in this way you travel all the time and depend on power which is with someone else,

Selection of 100 Shirdi Sai Baba Sayings

Selection of 100 Shirdi Sai Baba Sayings A Collection from Sri Sai Satcharita Why fear when I am here? I am formless and everywhere I am in everything and beyond. I fill all space. All that you see taken together is Myself. I do not shake or move. If one devotes their entire time to me and rests in me, need fear nothing for body and soul. If one sees me and me alone and listens to my Leelas and is devoted to me alone, they will reach God. My business is to give blessings. I get angry with none. Will a mother get angry with her children? Will the ocean send back the waters to the several rivers? I will take you to the end. Surrender completely to God. If you make me the sole object of your thoughts and aims, you will gain the supreme goal. Trust in the Guru fully. That is the only sadhana. I am the slave of my devotee. Stay by me and keep quiet. I will do the rest. What is our duty? To behave properly. That is enough. My eye is ever on those who love me. Whatever you do, wherever you may be, always bear this in mind: I am always aware of everything you do. I will not allow my devotees to come to harm. If a devotee is about to fall, I stretch out my hands to support him or her. I think of my people day and night. I say their names over and over. My treasury is open but no one brings carts to take from it. I say, “Dig!” but no one bothers. My people do not come to me of their own accord; it is I who seek and bring them to me. All that is seen is my form: ant, fly, prince, and pauper However distant my people may be, I draw them to me just as we pull a bird to us with a string tied to its foot. I love devotion. This body is just my house. My guru has long ago taken me away from it. Those who think that Baba is only in Shirdi have totally failed to know me. Without my grace, not even a leaf can move. I look on all with an equal eye. I cannot do anything without God’s permission. God has agents everywhere and their powers are vast. I have to take care of my children day and night and give an account to God of every paisa. The wise are cheerful and content with their lot in life. If you are wealthy, be humble. Plants bend when they bear fruit. Spend money in charity; be generous and munificent but not extravagant. Get on with your worldly activities cheerfully, but do not forget God. Do not kick against the pricks of life. Whatever creature comes to you, human or otherwise, treat it with consideration. Do not be obsessed by the importance of wealth. See the divine in the human being. Do not bark at people and don’t be aggressive, but put up with others’ complaints. There is a wall of separation between oneself and others and between you and me. Destroy this wall! Give food to the hungry, water to the thirsty, and clothes to the naked. Then God will be pleased. Saburi (patience) ferries you across to the distant goal. The four sadhanas and the six Sastras are not necessary. Just has complete trust in your guru: it is enough. Meditate on me either with form or without form, that is pure bliss. God is not so far away. He is not in the heavens above, nor in hell below. He is always near you. If anyone gets angry with another, they wound me to the quick. If you cannot endure abuse from another, just say a simple word or two, or else leave. What do we lose by another’s good fortune? Let us celebrate with them, or strive to emulate them. That should be our desire and determination. I stay by the side of whoever repeats my name. If formless meditation is difficult, then think of my form just as you see it here. With such meditation, the difference between subject and object is lost and the mind dissolves in unity. If anyone offends you do not return tit for tat. I am the slave of those who hunger and thirst after me and treat everything else as unimportant. Whoever makes me the sole object of their love, merges in me like a river in the ocean. Look to me and I will look to you. What God gives is never exhausted, what man gives never lasts. Be contented and cheerful with what comes. My devotees see everything as their Guru. Poverty is the highest of riches and a thousand times superior to a king’s wealth. Put full faith in God’s providence. Whoever withdraws their heart from wife, child, and parents and loves me, is my real lover. Distinguish right from wrong and be honest, upright and virtuous. Do not be obsessed by egotism, imagining that you are the cause of action: everything is due to God. If we see all actions as God’s doing, we will be unattached and free from karmic bondage. Other people’s acts will affect just them. It is only your own deeds that will affect you. Do not be idle: work, utter God’s name and read the scriptures. If you avoid rivalry and dispute, God will protect you. People abuse their own friends and family, but it is only after performing many meritorious acts that one gets a human birth. Virtue is the sign of the educated person. This is what makes education worthwhile. God can be felt and experienced only in the deepest depths of silence. To help the helpless is the only way to please, follow and reach Him. Mind, word and act; all three must be filled with the belief that all is His play; that is the genuine path. You are in the Light, then the Light is in you, You are the Light. Desire is storm, greed is whirlpool, pride is precipice, attachment is avalanche, ego is volcano. Bear all and do nothing;  Hear all and say nothing;  Give all and take nothing;  Serve all and be nothing. Man minus immorality is Immortality. God is for those, who are not for themselves. So long as the sugar is on the tongue, you feel the sweetness in taste. Similarly, so long as the heart has love, peace and devotion, you feel the bliss. If you will not rise above the things of the world, they will rise above you. Praying is your task; what happens to the prayer is dependent on the Grace of God. Seek out your faults and others’ merits. Seeking others’ faults is dire sin. Your duty is to pray for the welfare of the world and to work for it as far as it lies in your power. Earning money cannot be the purpose of education. Acquiring good qualities can be the only purpose of education. True devotion must not get dispirited; nor elated or satisfied with lesser gains; it must fight against failure, loss, calumny, calamity, ridicule and against egoism and pride, impatience and cowardice. Life is a bridge over the sea of changes. Do not build a house on it. In the innermost recess of your heart there is a reservoir of peace where you must take refuge. Employ yourself usefully. Be like a trustee, holding on trust, on behalf of God, for the purpose, which He likes and approves. Hear good things, see good, do good, think good, then you get the Grace of God, as all the evil tendencies will be uprooted. All are expressions of the same God, as bulbs lit by the same current through manifold colors and wattage. Have faith in His Grace and lead a virtuous life, a life devoted to the service of the weak; a life spent in the thought about the might and glory of God. The refinement of an individual is measured by the yardstick of sense control. Prayer must emanate from the heart, where God resides, and not from the head where doctrines and doubts clash. You have come from God, you are a spark of His Glory; you are a wave of that Ocean of Bliss; you will get peace only when you again merge in Him. See God in every one you
