Navagraha Suktam with meaning ॐॐॐ आसत्येन रजसा बर्तमानो निवेशनमृतं मल्लदै हिरण्ययेन सविता रथेनाऽऽदेवो यांतिभुव॑ना विपश्यन् । अडि येषामीशें पशुपर्तिः पशूनां चतुष्पदामुतचे द्विपदांम् । दूतं वृणीमहे होतार विश्वर्वेदसम् । अस्य यज्ञस्य॑ सुक्रतुम् । निष्क्रीतोऽयं यज्ञियं भागमैतु रायस्पोषा यज॑मानस्य सन्तु ॥ ॐ अधिदेवता-प्रत्यधिदेवता-सहिताय आर्दित्याय॒ नम॑ः।।॥Om asatyena rajásä vartámänō niveśayannamrtam martyañca. Hiranvayena savitä rathënā dēvõ vắtibhuvana vipaśyan. Agnim dütam vrnimahe hotaram viśvavedasam Asya yajñasya sukratum. yēsāmiśe paśupatih pašūnām catuspadamuta cá dvipadam. Nişkrito’yam yajñiyam bhāgamětu räyaspösä yajamānasya santu. Om adhidēvatäpratyadhidevatāsahitāya ädityāya namaḥ. Our salutations to Lord Aditya (Sun) who emerges with the brilliance of the effulgent Truth and moves in a golden chariot through the worlds inhabited by the mortals and the immortals. We welcome the All-knowing Lord Agni (Fire) as our Messenger as He is the master in performing sacrifices. May Aditya, Lord of all beings, accept the sacrificial offering and grant us glorious wealth. ॐ अग्रिमूर्द्धा दिवः ककुत्पतिः पृथिव्या अयम् अपाग्रेतासि जिन्वति । स्योना पृथिवि भर्वाऽनृक्षरा निवेर्शनी । यच्छांनश्शर्म सुप्रथाँः । क्षेत्रस्य॒ पर्तिना व्यग॑हिते नैव जयामसि । गामश्व पोषयित्वा स नौ मृडातीदृशैं ।। ॐ अधिदेवता-प्रत्यधिदेवता-सहिताय अङ्गारकाय नमः ॥॥ ३॥Om agnirmürddhā divaḥ kakutpatiḥ pṛthivyā ayam. Apāgamrētāgamsi jinvati. Syönä pṛthivi bhava’nṛkṣarā niveśani. Yacchanaśśarmá saprathah. Kşētrasya patinä vayagamhitë neva jayāmasi. Gamaśvam pöşayitnvă sa no mrdatidrse.Our salutations to Lord Angaraka (Mars) who rules over the earth and heaven and sets in motion waters that sustain life. May this vast earth become a happy abode for us. May You graciously bless us with knowledge and energy. ॐ उध्यस्वाने प्रति॑िजागृह्येनमिष्टापूर्ते संस॑जेथामयचे । पुन कृण्वस्त्वां पितरं युर्वानमन्वातासीत्त्वयि तन्तुमेतम् । उन विष्णु-विच॑क्रमे त्रेधा निर्दधे पदम् । सर्मूढमस्यपां सुरे। विष्पों ररार्टमसि विष्णौंः पृष्ठम॑सि विष्णोश्श्नप्त्रैस्थो विष्णोस्स्यूर॑स॒ विष्णयो॑ध्रुवम॑सि वैष्णवम॑सि॒ विष्ण॑वे त्वा ।। ॐ अधिदेवता-प्रत्यधिदेवता-सहिताय बुर्धाय॒ नम॑ः ।। ४।॥Om udbudhyasvägnē pratijägṛhyēnamistäpürte sagamsrjethämayañcá. Punah kenvaggstvå pitaram yuvanamanvätägamsittvayi tantumētam. Idam vişnurvicákramë trëdhā nidadhë padam. Samudhamasya pagam sure. Vişnó rarătamasi vişnoh prsthamasi vişnöśśnaptresthö vişnössyūrasi vişnördhruvamási vaişnavamási vişnavë tvă. Om adhidëvatäpratyadhidēvatāsahītäya budhaya namah. Our salutations to Lord Budha (Mercury). May You be pleased with our offerings in the Yajna brought to You by Lord Agni. The Yajna represents the very essence of the immortal Vishnu who sanctified the three worlds with the dust of His feet. May You bestow upon our fathers eternal youth. (The importance of the performance of Yajna is highlighted by comparing the Yajna with Lord Vishnu). ॐ प्रर्वश्शुक्रार्य भानवें भरध्वर्ग हव्यं मतिं चाग्नये सुप॑तम् । यो दैव्यांनि मानुषा जनूंषि अन्तर्विश्वा॑नि वि॒द्म ना जिगोति । इन्द्राणीमासु नारि॑िषु सुपीम॒हम॑श्रवम् । न ह्यस्या अपरंचन जरसा मरते पर्तिः । इन्द्रं वो विश्वतस्परि हर्वामहे जर्नेभ्यः । अस्माकंमस्तु केर्बलः ।।ॐ अधिदेवता-प्रत्यधिदेवता-सहिताय शुक्राय नमः ।॥ ६ ॥ Om pravaśśukräyȧ bhānave bharadhvagam. Havyam matim căgnayë supütam. Yō daivyani mănuşā janügamși. Antarviśvani vidma na jigáti. Indrānīmāsu nārişu supatnímahamaśravam. Na hyasyä aparañcana jarasă marátě Our salutations to Lord Sukra (Venus); be gracious to us. We offer our oblations into Agni who reaches them from earth to heaven. Indra, who has become invincible and immortal by the power of chastity of his most blessed consort, brings our oblations to You. ॐ शनौ देवीरभिष्टय आपो भवन्तु पीतयें । शंयोरभिसंवन्तु नः । प्रजापते न त्वदेतान्यन्यो विश्वर्धा जातानि परिता र्बभूव । यत्कोमास्ते जुहुमस्तनों अस्तु व्यग्ग्स्या॑म॒ पत॑यो रयीणाम् । इमं येमप्रस्तरमाहि सीदाऽङ्गिरोभिः पितृर्भिस्सं-विदानः । आत्वा मन्त्राँः कविशस्ता वहन्त्वेना राजन् हविर्षा मादयस्व ।ॐ अधिदेवता-प्रत्यधिदेवता-सहिताय शनैश्चराय नम॑ः ॥७॥ Om śanno dēvīrabhistaya apo bhavantu pītayč. Samyorabhisravantu nah. Prajapatě na tvadētānyanyö viśva jātāni parită babhūva. Yatkamāstē juhumastanno astu vayaggsyama patayo rayīņām. Imam yamaprastaramähi sīdā’ngirōbhih pitrbhissamvidānaḥ. Ätvä mantraḥ kaviśastă vahantvēnā rajan havişa mādayasva. Om adhidēvatäpratyadhidēvatāsahitāya śanaiścarāya namah. Our salutations to Lord Sanaishchara (Saturn) who grants us the water of life (spiritual sustenance), which endows on us divine bliss. (Here, Sani (Saturn) is addressed as Sanaishcara, meaning one who moves slowly. In this hymn, Lord Sani is also addressed by the names of Prajapati and Yama). O Prajapati, You are the eternal One from whom the whole universe has emerged. May You grant our prayers for abundant wealth. O Yama, may You come and preside over the Yajna along with our manes and joyfully accept our offerings. ॐ कयां नक्षत्र आभुषदूती सदावृधस्सखा । कया शर्चिष्ठया बुता । आज्यन्नीः प्रश्निंरक्रमीदसंनन्मातरं पुर्नः । पितरेन प्रयन्त्सुर्वः । यत्तै देवी निर्ऋतिराव॒बन्ध॒ दाम॑ ब्रीवास्य॑ विचर्त्यम् । इदन्ते तद्विष्याम्यायु॑षो न मध्यादोजीवः पितु-मंद्धि प्रर्मुक्तः ॥ ॐ अधिदेवता-प्रत्यधिदेवता-सहिताय राहवे नर्मः ॥ ८ ॥Om kaya našcitra ābhuvadūtī sadāvṛdhassakha. Kaya śačisthayā vṛtä. Ä’yangauh prśnirakramīdasananmātaram punah. Pitarañca prayantsuvah. Yatte devī nirrtiräba bandha dămå grīvāsvavicartyam. Idantë tadvisyāmyāyuşə na madhyādathajīvah pitumaddhi pramukttah. Om adhidëvatäpratyadhidevatāsahitāya rähavē namaḥ. Our salutations to Lord Rahu, our wonderful and abiding friend who helps Lord Indra bring us the knowledge that leads us to heaven; this knowledge also releases us from the bondage of material existence, so that we can partake of the divine nectar of bliss even during the prime of our life. ॐ केतुङ्गुण्वच॑केतवे पेशों मर्या अपेशर्स । समुषद्भिर जायथाः । ब्रह्मा देवानां पदवीः क॑वा॒नामृषिर्विप्राणां महिषो मृगाणाम् । श्येनो गृना॑पा॒ग्र्वधि॑िति॒र्वता॑नां सोम॑ः पवित्रुमः त्यैति रेभं । सचित्र चित्रं चितयन्तम॒स्मे चिच॑क्षत्र चित्रर्तम बयोधाम् । चन्द्रं रयिं पुरुवीरँ बृहन्तुं चन्द्र॑च॒न्द्राभि॑िर्गृपने युवस्व ।।ॐ अधिदेवता-प्रत्यधिदेवता-सहितेभ्यः केतु॑भ्यो नमः ॥९॥ ।। ॐ आदित्यादि नवग्रह देवताभ्यो नमो नमः ।।Om Acrunkenvannaketavé péső marya apesas Samusadbhirajayathah. May You grant us the power of intuition so that we can express abstract and sublime ideas in delightful words.O Lord, You are the Supreme One who has become Lord Brahma among gods, the wordsmith among poets; the seer among the aspirants; the buffalo among animals; the kite among birds; the axe among the tools used in the forest and nectar ‘Soma’ among the sacrificial offerings.

Hiranyagarbhah Süktam with meaning 1.ॐ हिरण्यगर्भः सर्मवर्तता भूतस्य॑ जातः पति॒रेक॑ आसीत् । स दांधार पृथिवीं द्यामुतेमां कस्मै दे॒वाय॑ ह॒विषा विधेम ॥ १ ॥Hiranyagarbhaḥ samavartatägre bhūtasya jätahSa dadhāra prthivim dyämutemäm kasmaiPatireka äsitdevāya haviṣā vidhema. The resplendent Prajapati was born at the beginning of creation from the Supreme person with the power of Mava. Having been born he became the one sustainer and nourisher of all beings. The same Paramatman, here designated as Hiranyagarbha, supports the Earth as well as Heaven. May we worship that shining one with offerings who is of the nature of bliss or whose characteristic nature can not be interrogated. 2. य आंत्मदा बैलदा यस्य विश्व उपासते प्रशिषं यस्य॑ देवाः । यस्य॑ छायामृतं यस्य॑ मृत्युः कस्मै दे॒वाय॑ ह॒विषाँ विधेम ॥ २ ॥Ya ätmadā balada yasya viśva upāsate prašişamyasya devähyasya chayämrtam yasya mrtyuh kasmai devāyahavişā vidhema•Who is the giver of self (all selves in reality being himself); who is bestower of strength (as nourisher through food); Whose command even gods are eager to receive; Whom immortality and death obey like shadow: 3. यः प्राणतो निमिषतो मेहित्वैक इद्राजा जर्गतो बभूर्व । य ईशैं अस्य द्विपद॒श्चतु॑ष्पद्ः कस्मै॑ दे॒वाय॑ ह॒विषा विधेम ॥ ३ ॥Yaḥ prānato nimisato mahitvaika idrājā jagato babhūva Ya ise asya dvipadaścatuspadaḥ kasmai devāyahavişă vidhema Who became the sovereign ruler of all beings living and existing on Earth; Who controls as the Earth; indwelling 4.यस्येमे हिमव॑न्तो महित्वा यस्य॑ समुद्रं रसयाँ सहाहुः । यस्येमाः प्रदिशो यस्य॑ बाहू कस्मै देवार्य हविषा विधेम ।। ४ ।।Yasyeme himavanto mahirva yasya samudratYasaya sahabubYasyemäb pradise yasya bahü kasmaidevāya havisā vidhema Whose glory the mountains, Himālaväs and the rest, declare Whose greatness the ocean along withrivers proclaim; to whose hands engaged in dispensing justice may be compared the eight directions. 5. येन द्यौरुग्रा पृथिवी चे दृळ्हा येन॒ स्व॑ः स्तभितं येन नार्कः । यो अ॒न्तरि॑क्षै रज॑सो विमानः कस्मै देवार्य ह॒विषा विधेम ।। ५ ।।Yena dyaurugrä prthivi ca driha yena svah stabhitamyena nakahYo antarikse rajaso vimānah kasmai devāyahavisa vidhema 6. यं क्रन्द॑सी अव॑सा तस्तभाने अभ्यैक्षतां मन॑सा रेजमाने । यत्राधि सूर उदितो विभाति कस्मै देवाय हविषा विधेम ॥ ६ ॥Yam krandasi avasä tastabhäne abhyaikşetámmanasă rejamáneYatradhi sura ndito vibhāti kasmai devaya havisa vidhemaBy whom the powerful sky and the terrestrial region were made firm; by whom the blissful heaven was awarded to the virtuous, by whom release was appointed for the virtuous; who is the maker of Rajasa creation in the mid – region. 7.आप ह य殣हतीर्विश्वमायन् गर्भ दाँना जनयतीरग्निम् । तततॊ देवानां सर्मवर्ततासुरेकः कस्मै॑ दे॒वाय॑ ह॒विर्षां विधेम ।।७।।Apo ha yadbṛhatirviśvamayan garbham dadhanajanayantiragnithTato devänäm samavartatāsurekah kasmaidevāya havişā vidhema. Through the power of whom the great causal waters holding within it the power of unfoldment and the capacity to produce fire transformed itself into the form of the world and from whom the one breath of all gods came into existence. 8.मा नोँ हिंसीज्जनिता यः पृथिव्या यो वा दिवं सत्यर्धर्मा जजार्न । यचापश्चन्द्रा बृह॒तीर्जजान कस्मै दे॒वाय॑ ह॒विषा विधेम ॥ Mã no himsijjanitä yaḥ pṛthivya yo vă divam satyadharma jajana yaścāpaścandra brhatirjajāna kasmai devaya havişa vidhema.May he the creator of the Earth and heaven whose laws are ‘inviolable”, (cannot be violated) Never harm us. He is the one who brought forth the great and lucid waters. Hantäram šatrünăm krdhi virājam gopatim gavāmMake me a bull among my peers, make me my nvals conquerer. Make me the slayer of my foes, a soverign ruler, lord of kine. 2.अहमंस्मि सपत्नहेन्द्र इवारिष्टो अर्शतः । अधः सषा में पदोरिमे सर्वे” अभिष्ठिताः ॥ २ ॥Ahamasmi sapatnahendra iväristo akşatah Adhah sapatna me pador ime sarve abhisthitaham my rivals slayer, like Indra unwounded and unhurt. Višva adhiśriyodhita.Goddess of Night, comes with all Her glory. conquering all the worlds that she sees with Her eyes. 2.ओवैा अम॑र्त्या निवतो॑ देव्यु (उ) १द्धतेः । ज्योतिषा बाधते तर्मः ॥ २ ॥Orvapra amartyä nivato devyudvatah. Jyotisä bädhate tamahThe immortal Goddess has filled the whole universe, all its spaces, heights and depths. She conquers darkness with Her all-seeing light. 3.निरुस्वसौरमस्कृतो॒षस॑ दे॒व्या॑य॒ती । अपेर्दु हासते॒ तम॑ः ॥ ३॥Nirusvasäramaskı toşasam devyäyati. Apeduhäsate tamahThe Goddess of Night brings Her sister ‘Dawn’ following Her. And then the darkness vanishes. 4. सा नोँ अद्य यस्या॑ व॒यं नि ते याम॒न्नर्विक्ष्महि । वृक्षेन वैसति वर्यः ।। ४ ।।Să no adya yasyä vayam nite yamannaviksmahi. Vrksena vasatim vayahLike birds that take shelter in their nests on tree, when the dusk comes, we take refuge on your lap; be kind to us. 5. नि ग्रामाँसो अविक्षत नि पद्धन्तो नि पक्षिणः । निश्ये॒नास॑श्चिर्थिनः ।। ५ ॥ Ni grāmāso aviksata nipadvanto ni pakșinah. Ni śyenāsaścidarthinah.All the villagers have returned to their homes, and so have all the animals that walk and all the birds that fly including the falcons that are always alert to pounce on their preys..6. या॒वाँ वृक्य (अं) वृक॑ य॒वय॑स्ते॒न-मूँर्ये । अथा नः सुतराँ भव ॥ ६ ॥Yāvayā vṛkyavrkam yavayastenamürmye. Athā naḥ sutară bhava.O Goddess! Protect us from the wolves and the thieves so that the night passes easily. 7.उप॑मा॒ पेप॑िश॒त्तम॑ः कृष्णं व्यंक्तमस्थित । उर्ष ऋणेर्व यातय ।। ७ ।।Upama pepišattamah krsnam vyaktamasthita. Usa rneva yataya.O Goddess of Dawn, you adorn the darkness with rich colours as you arrive. O, Goddess destroy the darkness that troubled us like the debts. 8.उप॑ ते गा इवार्करें वृणीष्व दुहितर्दिवः । रात्रिस्तोमं न जिग्युपै ॥ ८ ॥Upa te gå iväkaram vrnisva duhitardivah. Rātristomam na igyuse.O Goddess of Night, you descend from the heaven. I offer these verses to you like the vanquished offers cattle to the conqueror. Be compassionate to accept them.

Bhagya Süktam with meaning 1. प्रातरङ्गि प्रातरिन्द्रयूँ हवामहे प्रातर्मित्रावरुणा प्रातरचिनों। प्रातर्भं पूषणं ब्रह्मणस्पर्ति प्रातस्सोम॑मुत रुद्रं हुक्म ।। १ ।। Prataragnim pratarindragm havämahe prätarmirrävarung prataraśvină. Prätarbhagm püsanam brahmanaspati prätassomamuta rudragim huvema.In the auspicious moments of the dawn, we invoke the gods-Agni, Indra, Varuņa, Mitra, Aśvin twins, Bhaga, Pushan, Brahmanaspati, Soma and Rudra. 2.प्रातर्जितं भर्गमुग्रं हुवेम वयं पुत्र-मर्दितर्यो विधर्ता । आश्विद्यं मन्येमानस्तुरश्चिद्राजा॑ वि॒द्यं भर्गं भुक्षीत्याह॑ ॥२॥Pratar jitam bhagamugragm huvema vayam putra-maditeryo vidhartă. Each man, be He poor or rich, be He a king or a pauper, while worshipping Him, prays thus, ‘May I get renown and riches’. 3.भग प्रर्णैत-भंग सत्य॑राधो भगेमां धियमुद॑व॒दद॑नः । भगप्रणो जनय गोभि-रश्वैर्भगप्रनृर्भि-र्नृवन्त॑स्स्याम ।। ३ ।।Bhaga pranetar bhaga satyarādho bhagemäm dhiyamuda vadadannah. Bhagaprano janaya gobhiraśvair bhaga pranrbhir nrvantassyämaO God, our guide, O God, whose gifts are bountiful, O God, who grants steady intellect, lead us on the path of prosperity. O God, augment our store of kine and horses. O God, may we be rich in men and heroes. 4.उतेदार्नी भर्गवन्तस्याोत प्रपित्व उत मध्ये अह्वाँम् । उतोर्दिता मघव॒न्सूर्यस्य व॒यं दे॒वनां सुम॒तौ स्या॑म ।। ४ ।।Utedanith bhagavantasyäm ota praparva uta madhye ahnam. Utodită maghavanthsüryasya vayam devanägm sumatau syama.So may felicity be mine at present, at sunset, and at moontide. Bring unto me Laksmi who resembles a doe of golden colour, who is adorned with garlands of silver and gold, delightful like the moon and abounding in riches. 2.तां म आवह जातवेदो लक्ष्मीमन॑पगामिना॑म् । यस्यां हिर॑ण्यं विन्देयं गामश्चं पुरुषानहम् ।। २ ।।Tam ma ävaha jätavedo lakṣmīm anapagaminim. May that goddess of Prosperity come and bless me. 4. कां सोस्मितां हिरण्यप्राकारांमार्दा ज्वलन्तीं तृप्तां तर्पर्यन्तीम् । पद्म स्थितां पद्मव॑र्णां तामिहोप॑ह्वये श्रियम् ।। ४ ।।Kām sosmitām hiranyaprākārāmārdrām jvalantīm trptăm tarpayantim. Padmesthitām padmavarņām tāmihopahvaye śriyam.I invoke that goddess of Prosperity who is of blissful nature, having a gentle smile, who is surrounded by gold on all sides, extremely benignant, lustrous and always contented. She makes (those who worship Her) contented and is of the colour of a lotus and seated on a lotus. 5.उपैतु मां देवसखः कीर्तिश्च मर्णिना सह । प्रादुर्भूतोस्पिं राष्ट्रेऽस्मिन् कीर्तिमृद्धिं दातुं मे ।। ७ ।।Upaitu mam devasakhaḥ kīrtiśca maninā saha. Prādur bhūtosmi răştre’smin kīrtimṛddhim dadātu me.May the friend of the Devas (Kubera, the Lord of Wealth who is a friend of Mahadeva or Siva) come to me with fame and wealth (jewels). May he grant me who is living in this kingdom, fame and riches! 6.गन्धद्वारां दुराधर्षां नित्यपुंष्टां करीषिणीम् । ईश्वरी सर्वभूतानां तामिहोप॑ह्वये श्रियम् ।। ९ ॥Gandha dvärăm durādharṣām nityapustām karisinim Išvarīgm sarvabhūtānām tāmihopahvaye śriyam.I shall (by Thy grace) destroy that distressing poverty, the first born in the form of hunger and thirst, (i.e. which prevents the advent of prosperity). Dispel from my house every form of want and insufficiency. 7.गुन्धुद्वारां र्दुराष॒ नित्ययु॑ष्टां करीषिणर्णीम् । ईश्वरीं सर्वभूता॒नं तामहोप॑ह्वये श्रियम् ।। ९ ॥Gandha dvārām durādharsam nityapustām karisinim Išvarīgi sarvabhūtānām tāmihopahvaye śriyam.I invoke that goddess of Prosperity, the controller of all beings, who is known by Her fragrance, who is invincible, who is always full of wealth and fertility. 8.मन॑सः काममाकृतिं वाचः सत्यर्मशीमहि । पशूनां रूपमन॑स्य मयि श्रीः श्रूयतां यर्शः ।। १० ।।Manasah kamamākütim vācah satyamaśimahi. Pašūnām rūpamannasya mayi śrih śrayatam yaśah.O goddess of Prosperity! May we obtain the desires of out heart, our longings for food and milk products, and may we utter only truthful words. Let us attain glory. 9.कर्दमैन प्रजाभूता मयि सम्भव कर्दम । श्रियं वासर्य मे कुल्ले मातरं पद्ममार्लिनीम् ॥ ११ ॥Kardamena prajābhūtā mayi sambhava kardama. Sriyam väsaya me kule mätaram padmamalinim.Kardama! Make her who was born to Kardama Make the Goddess of (to you) abide with me. Prosperity who is the mother (of the universe) and wears garlands of lotuses, dwell in our family. 10. आपः सृजन्तु स्निग्धानि चिक्लीत बस मे गृहे। निर्च देवी माल श्रियं वासय॑ मे कुले ।। १२ ।।Apah srjantu snigdhani ciklīta vasa me grhe. Nica deve mātaram śriyarh vāsaya me kule.Let the waters produce oily products (like butter) in my house. O Ciklita, dwell in my house and make the goddess of Prosperity, the Divine Mother. also dwell in my family. 11.आर्द्रा पुष्करि॑िर्णी पुष्टिं पिङ्गलां पद्ममालिनीम् । चन्द्र हिरण्मयीं लक्ष्मीं जातवेदो म आर्वह ।। १३ ।।Ärdräm puskarinim pustim pingalam padmamalinim Candräm hiranmayim lakşmim jātavedo ma avaha.O Jätaveda! Bring to me the extremely benign Lakşmi (another name for the goddess of Prosperity). reddish in complexion, who dwells in lakes and who possesses the moon’s brilliance and gold in abundance. 12. आर्द्रा यः करि॑िर्णी य॒ष्टिं सुवर्णां हेममालिनीम् । सूर्या हिरण्मेकी लक्ष्मीं जातवेदो म आर्वह ।। १४ ।।Ardram yah karinim yastim suvarnam hemamalinim. Süryam hiranmayim lakşmim jātavedo ma a vaha.O Jātaveda! Bring to me the extremely benign Laksmi of gold complexion who dwells in lakes, who is the bestower of plenty, who wears a garland of gold, who is resplendent like the sun and abounds in wealth. 13. तां म आवह जातवेदो लक्ष्मीमनपगामिनीम् । यस्यां हि प्रर्भूतं गाव दास्योऽश्वाँन्विन्देयं पुरुषानहम् ।। १५ ।।Tärm ma avaha jätavedo laksmim anapagaminim. Yasyan hiranyam prabhūtam gavo dasyo śvân vindeyas puruşanaham.O Jataveda! Bring to me that Laksmi who will not forsake me and by whose grace I may obtain in plenty, gold, cows, horses and servants. 14.यः शुचिः प्रय॑तो भूत्वा जुहुर्यादाज्यमन्व॑हम् । श्रिर्यः पञ्चदेश च श्रीकार्मः सततं जंपेत् ।। १६ ।।Yah sucih prayato bhūtvā juhuyādājyam anvahah. Sriya pañcadaśarcam ca śrīkamah satatam japet.One who is desirous of becoming prosperous should, by making himself pure and keeping his senses under control, make daily offerings of melted butter (in the fire) and should always repeat the above fifteen stanzas. 15.अश्वदायी गोदायी धनर्दायी महार्थने । धनं मे जुष॑तां देवि सर्वकामांश्च देहि मे ॥ १८ ॥Aśvadayi godāyī dhanadayi mahädhane. Dhanam me juşatăm devi sarvakamamśca dehi me.O goddess, whose eyes, face and other organs resemble a lotus and who is born of a lotus, bless me. The rules of grammar will not save you at the time of your death. मूढ जहीहि धनागमतृष्णांकुरु सद्बुद्धिम् मनसि वितृष्णाम् |यल्लभसे निज कर्मोपात्तंवित्तं तेन विनोदय चित्तम् ‖ 2 ‖ mūḍha jahīhi dhanāgamatṛṣṇāṃkuru sadbuddhim manasi vitṛṣṇām |yallabhase nija karmopāttaṃvittaṃ tena vinodaya cittam ‖ 2 ‖ O fool! Give up your thirst to amass wealth, devote your mind to dispassion and thoughts of the Real. Be content with what comes to you through actions performed by your own work. नारी स्तनभर नाभीदेशंदृष्ट्वा मा गा मोहावेशम् |एतन्मांस वसादि विकारंमनसि विचिन्तया वारं वारम् ‖ 3 ‖ nārī stanabhara nābhīdeśaṃdṛṣṭvā mā gā mohāveśam |etanmāṃsa vasādi vikāraṃmanasi vicintayā vāraṃ vāram ‖ 3 ‖ Do not get drowned in delusion, infatuated with passion and lusty desires, by seeing a woman’s raised breasts and navel. These are nothing but a modification of flesh and fat, and the like. Do not fail to remember this again and again in your mind. नलिनी दलगत जलमति तरलंतद्वज्जीवित मतिशय चपलम् |विद्धि व्याध्यभिमान ग्रस्तंलोकं शोकहतं च समस्तम् ‖ 4 ‖ nalinī dalagata jalamati taralaṃtadvajjīvita matiśaya capalam |viddhi vyādhyabhimāna grastaṃlokaṃ śokahataṃ ca samastam ‖ 4 ‖ As water drops on a lotus leaf are unsteady and trembling, in the same way life in this world is exceedingly unsteady and restless. Know that the whole world is full of miseries, afflicted by unhappiness and grief. यावद्-वित्तोपार्जन सक्तःतावन्-निजपरिवारो रक्तः |पश्चाज्जीवति जर्जर देहेवार्तां कोऽपि न पृच्छति गेहे ‖ 5 ‖ yāvad-vittopārjana saktaḥtāvan-nijaparivāro raktaḥ |paścājjīvati jarjara dehevārtāṃ ko’pi na pṛcchati gehe ‖ 5 ‖ So long as a man is fit and able to support his family by earning wealth, all those family members around him show affection. But no one at home cares for him, even have a word with him, when his body becomes invalid and totters due to old age. यावत्-पवनो निवसति देहेतावत्-पृच्छति कुशलं गेहे |गतवति वायौ देहापायेभार्या बिभ्यति तस्मिन् काये ‖ 6 ‖ yāvat-pavano nivasati dehetāvat-pṛcchati kuśalaṃ gehe |gatavati vāyau dehāpāyebhāryā bibhyati tasmin kāye ‖ 6 ‖ When one is alive, his family members enquire kindly about his welfare. But when the life-air stops and the soul departs from the body, even his wife runs away in fear of the corpse बाल स्तावत् क्रीडासक्तःतरुण स्तावत् तरुणीसक्तः |वृद्ध स्तावत्-चिन्तामग्नःपरमे ब्रह्मणि कोऽपि न लग्नः ‖ 7 ‖ bāla stāvat krīḍāsaktaḥtaruṇa stāvat taruṇīsaktaḥ |vṛddha stāvat-cintāmagnaḥparame brahmaṇi ko’pi na lagnaḥ ‖ 7 ‖ Childhood is lost in attachment to games. The youth is lost in attachment to woman. Old age passes with worry and anxiety, thinking over many things. But there is hardly anyone who wants to be lost (attached) in para-braman, the Supreme Spirit. का ते कान्ता कस्ते पुत्रःसंसारोऽयमतीव विचित्रः |कस्य त्वं वा कुत आयातःतत्वं चिन्तय तदिह भ्रातः ‖ 8 ‖ kā te kāntā kaste putraḥsaṃsāro’yamatīva vicitraḥ |kasya tvaṃ vā kuta āyātaḥtatvaṃ cintaya tadiha bhrātaḥ ‖ 8 ‖ Who is your wife? Who is your son? Supremely wonderful is saṁsāra, the circle of birth and death. Of whom are you? From where have you come? Brother, ponder over these concepts. सत्सङ्गत्वे निस्सङ्गत्वंनिस्सङ्गत्वे निर्मोहत्वम् |निर्मोहत्वे निश्चलतत्त्वंनिश्चलतत्त्वे जीवन्मुक्तिः ‖ 9 ‖ satsaṅgatve nissaṅgatvaṃnissaṅgatve nirmohatvam |nirmohatve niścalatattvaṃniścalatattve jīvanmuktiḥ ‖ 9 ‖ Being in the company of good people (saints) gives rise to non-attachment; from non-attachment comes freedom from delusion, which leads to awareness of reality; understanding of reality gives rise to emancipation leading to the liberation of the soul (jīvan-mukti), while still alive. वयसि गते कः कामविकारःशुष्के नीरे कः कासारः |क्षीणे वित्ते कः परिवारःज्ञाते तत्त्वे कः संसारः ‖ 10 ‖ vayasi gate kaḥ kāmavikāraḥśuṣke nīre kaḥ kāsāraḥ |kṣīṇe vitte kaḥ parivāraḥjñāte tattve kaḥ saṃsāraḥ ‖ 10 ‖ What good is lust when youth has fled? What use is a lake which has no water? Where are the relatives when wealth is gone? What is saṁsāra (transmigratory process), when Truth is known. मा कुरु धनजन यौवन गर्वंहरति निमेषात्-कालः सर्वम् |मायामयमिदम्-अखिलं हित्वाब्रह्मपदं त्वं प्रविश विदित्वा ‖ 11 ‖ mā kuru dhanajana yauvana garvaṃharati nimeṣāt-kālaḥ sarvam |māyāmayamidam-akhilaṃ hitvābrahmapadaṃ tvaṃ praviśa viditvā ‖ 11 ‖ Do not take pride in wealth, friends and youth. Each one of these is destroyed within an instant by Time. Free yourself from the illusion of the world of māyā and attain the realm of brahman, timeless truth. दिन यामिन्यौ सायं प्रातःशिशिर वसन्तौ पुनरायातः |कालः क्रीडति गच्छत्यायुःतदपि न मुञ्चत्याशावायुः ‖ 12 ‖ dina yāminyau sāyaṃ prātaḥśiśira vasantau punarāyātaḥ |kālaḥ krīḍati gacchatyāyuḥtadapi na muñcatyāśāvāyuḥ ‖ 12 ‖ Day and night, evening and morning, winter and summer come and go again and again. Eternal time plays and life ebbs away, yet one does not let go of the storm of desire. द्वादश मञ्जरिकाभिर शेषःकथितो वैया करणस्यैषः |उपदेशो भूद्-विद्या निपुणैःश्रीमच्छङ्कर भगवच्छरणैः ‖ 13 ‖ dvādaśa mañjarikābhira śeṣaḥkathito vaiyā karaṇasyaiṣaḥ |upadeśo bhūd-vidyā nipuṇaiḥśrīmacchaṅkara bhagavaccharaṇaiḥ ‖ 13 ‖ The bouquet of twelve verses was imparted to a grammarian by the all-knowing Śaṅkara, adored as Bhagavat-pāda. का ते कान्ता धन गत चिन्तावातुल किं तव नास्ति नियन्ता |त्रिजगति सज्जन सङ्गतिरेकाभवति भवार्णव तरणे नौका ‖ 14 ‖ kā te kāntā dhana gata cintāvātula kiṃ tava nāsti niyantā |trijagati sajjana saṅgatirekābhavati bhavārṇava taraṇe naukā ‖ 14 ‖ O, mad man! Why this engrossment in thoughts of wealth and beloved? Is there no one to guide you? In these thee worlds, only the association with saintly people (satsaṅga) can serve as the boat that can steer cross the ocean of repeated birth and death. (Stanza attributed to Padmapāda.) जटिलो मुण्डी लुञ्जित केशःकाषायान्बर बहुकृत वेषः |पश्यन्नपि च न पश्यति मूढःउदर निमित्तं बहुकृत वेषः ‖ 15 ‖ jaṭilo muṇḍī luñjita keśaḥkāṣāyānbara bahukṛta veṣaḥ |paśyannapi ca na paśyati mūḍhaḥudara nimittaṃ bahukṛta veṣaḥ ‖ 15 ‖ There are many (ascetics) with matted hair, many with clean shaven heads, many whose hair have been plucked out; some are clothed in orange, yet others parading in various colors -Indeed, these different disguises or apparels are only for their belly’s sake. Seeing the truth revealed before them, still the foolish ones can not see through
