Mother With Care and Concern… Mother Easwaramma…

Mother With Care and Concern… Mother Easwaramma… Mother Easwaramma was ever an epitome of peace and tranquility… humility and simplicity…  The ‘naive’ mother in her often worried about her Son, dispite Him being Divine, about Him being subject to calumny… and for the suffering, she had always been a connecting link to The Supreme Divine… a beautiful episode from Ms Bikkina Veera Nagamani…(The author rendered service in the Sri Sathya Sai General Hospital until merging with Swami in June 2013). I first came to Parthi along with my parents in 1956 and continued to make regular trips here until 1965. In June 1965 when I came here, Swami said I should live here for good and so I have lived here since then and Prasanthi Nilayam has become my home. My acquaintance with Swami’s mother soon developed into an extremely sweet and intimate relationship despite the difference in our ages. It became a regular practice for her and me to visit one another without fail everyday. Either she would come to our room or I would go to her’s. One day when she was in our room, Dr. Jayalakshmi who worked in the hospital happened to come there. When she saw Swami’s mother in our room, she sat down to listen to what she was saying because our conversation invariably centred around Swami. Dr. Jayalakshmi naturally wanted to hear something about Swami. She asked her what Swami was like as a child. On a wall in our room, there was a calendar with a picture of baby Krishna eating butter. Pointing to it Mother Easwaramma said: “Swami also looked like Him with His smiling countenance and curly hair. But we couldn’t deck Him up with so much jewellery (as the Krishna in the picture). Still somehow, I do not know how, we got some silver ornaments made for Him.” Her compassion towards people in distress prompted her ever so often to intercede on their behalf and plead with Swami. Whenever she saw devotees looking unhappy or troubled she would become concerned and appeal to Swami to talk to them. At the same time, her love for Swami made her ever alert to what people might say about Him. In those days, Swami used to freely grant interviews to devotees. At festival times, He used to personally supervise each and everything. One year at the time of Durga Navaratri festival, Swami being very busy could not so freely grant the much-coveted private audience to devotees who wanted to leave after the conclusion of the festival. So, He had it announced that they should return home without waiting for an interview and that His blessings were with them. Then two days later when a devotee came to the Ashram, He granted him an interview. That upset Mother Easwaramma immensely. She could not bear the thought that people might speak adversely of Swami. She wanted Him not to do anything which might prompt people to speak against Him. Feeling very agitated she said to me, “See, this is how He does things. What will people think?” At such times, she became just a mother concerned about her son’s reputation. She forgot that He is above praise and calumny and that whatever He does, He does for very valid reasons known only to Himself. Mother Easwaramma dearly loved her native village of Puttaparthi. Even during the summer months when Swami usually stayed at Brindavan Ashram in Bangalore (now Bengaluru), she chose to remain at Parthi. If someone suggested that she too should go to Bengaluru she would say, ‘No.’ She felt happy to stay at Parthi and was content to live there in spite of the heat. Summer would not last forever, she would point out. She never took any medicine. Sometimes, the visiting doctors would give her vitamin tablets which she would place in my hands with the injunction that I give them to some poor patient at the hospital. If I said she should take them in order to be strong, she would retort, saying she did not need to be strong as she was not going to fight in any war. If a patient’s condition was reported to be serious, she would frequently enquire about that patient and repeat the injunction that we should take proper care of the patients. Mother’s Love Excels All…

Mother’s Love Excels All… Undoubtedly the most exalted Mother on Earth, Mother Easwaramma, Who was chosen by the Divine Himself to be His ‘Chosen Mother’, She is much more than a pleasant memory for them, who know the Mother…rather She is ever an elated decorous memory for everyone in Sai fraternity… With her unbounded love for Her Divine Child, She exemplified herself as the most exalted of the Divine Mothers in the history of Avatars… a beautiful anecdote showing the mother’s attachment towards her Son Divine…shared by Ms Bikkina Veera Nagamani… (The author rendered service in the Sri Sathya Sai General Hospital until her merger at Bhagawan’s Lotus Feet in June 2013). After the conclusion of the World Conference, we left Mumbai with Swami’s blessings and permission to visit Shirdi en route to Parthi. Swami returned to Parthi on 11th June and on 13th June He gave us all Padanamaskar and Vibhuti Prasadam because He was once again leaving Parthi to go to Bengaluru that day. So, along with Dr. Jayalakshmi I went upstairs to Swami’s dining room to seek His permission for us to follow Him to Bengaluru. To Dr. Jayalakshmi’s verbal request He gave a verbal affirmative reply. I sought His permission with a mute look of appeal and He too indicated His assent with a look. Two days later, I went to Brindavan along with Pedda Bottu, an old devotee who had known and had been with Swami’s previous Shirdi form. At Brindavan, Swami told me to stay inside the Mandir along with Mother Easwaramma and other ladies. Swami had His food in the company of some male devotees in the dining room while the ladies were served food in the adjoining verandah. Swami would finish His food in about two minutes and then would come to the verandah to talk to the Mother. One night, He said in a most casual manner that He was going on a visit to Africa. And as He did so often to tease her, He remarked that in that strange land lions and tigers roamed about as freely as dogs do in our country. That really scared her and she pleaded with Him to give up the idea. Swami only laughed at her fears and then to divert her attention told her that gold was extremely cheap in Africa. That night, Mother Easwaramma had no sleep for Swami’s proposed visit to a land full of wild beasts preyed on her mind. A few days later, Swami once again spoke of His intended visit to Africa and said that His Mumbai devotees were making preparations to give Him a grand send-off on the occasion of His first ever visit abroad. They were constructing an arch with 108 lotus-like structures adorning it. Realising that Swami was definitely going to this far away land despite her protests, Mother Easwaramma asked to be allowed to go with Him as far as Mumbai. Swami said, “We will see,” in a non-committal fashion, but she was not satisfied with that response. As the day of His departure to Mumbai drew near, she once again voiced her wish. Aware of her feelings, and ready to comply with her wish, Swami still did not say yes. He said, “But who will bring you back from Mumbai? Wait, let us ask Java.” So saying, He went in for His breakfast and as we waited outside for Him to come out, there came Smt. Java herself. She greeted Mother Easwaramma and noticing the look on her face asked what the matter was. I asked Mother Easwaramma if I might say what it was and she nodded her agreement. When I told her the problem, Smt. Java was quite willing to accompany her and when Swami came out told Him the same. Swami looked at the Mother and said, “So, you asked her already?” Smt. Java said, “No Swami, she did not tell me,” but Swami said, “You should not tell lies.” So, Mother Easwaramma accompanied Swami as far as Mumbai and after Swami left Mumbai for East Africa, her anxiety for His safety left her sleepless. She ate nothing and would not even drink water until a telegram came announcing His safe arrival in East Africa. Until His return to India, she spent a very anxious and restless time and appeared to have lost her appetite. Though He is the Lord and Master of all the worlds, He was her son and it was a mother’s love that she had towards Him always. She addressed Him like all others as Swami though and had the highest regard for His words, scrupulously disciplining her life in accordance with His wishes. II Samasta Lokah Sukhino Bhavantu II

Farewell…Little Princess Sai Gita…

Farewell…Little Princess Sai Gita… Seven years since Sai Gita’s glorious exit…still Sai Gita is as vivid a picture with her living presence in every devoted heart and mind, as one of the most exalted devotees of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai… Remembering the Little Princess, we recall the fateful day, through our pages on that day…paying rich tribute to one of Bhagawan’s most ideal devotee and celebrated devotee… Sai Gita, The Little Princess… To the mortals death comes as a big blow, for, it inflicts pain of separation from near and dear ones. Quoting an anonymous poet, Prof N. Kasturi wrote substantiating his statement that anything, which is born and grows, declines and dies… …as soon as we are born our funeral procession started! Our heart is the drum. Our hearts beat like a muffled drum and the funeral march starts! So, birth is only the beginning of death! With death defined as a consequence of birth and at birth man is given an opportunity to rediscover what he has  forgotten,  it should be man’s endeavour to dwell upon how best one could put an end to this otherwise unending cycle. In this modern age when man often fails to find out the real meaning of God’s greatest gift to humanity, the great sojourn called life, here in this ‘God’s Own’ village at Puttaparthi, an elephant by name Sai Gita has epitomized itself, to join an illustrious band of immortals, with its typified devotion!!! That is the inspiring saga of Sai Gita, Bhagawan’s pet-elephant whose sojourn on earth came to a spirited end at 1800 Hrs. IST on 22nd May 2007 after a lengthy script of glorious fifty years of dedicated service at His Divine Lotus Feet! The following extract from SAI GITA …A MYSTIFYING TALE OF UNMATCHED LOVE published in Heart to Heart journal gives clear insight into the unsullied love and devotion she had for Bhagawan. In the early sixties, the regular evening ‘appointment’ of Swami with Sai Gita was a sight which devotees looked forward to with great anticipation and elation. She would wait at the gate on the ladies’ side (where Swami’s car now enters Sai Kulwant Hall) and if for some reason Darshan was delayed, she would get very impatient. Twisting and twirling her tiny trunk, intermittently flapping her lotus-leaf-sized ears vigorously, and her swift and strong legs jumpy and restless, she would eagerly look at the Mandir unable to bear the delay. Tears that rolled down her cheeks on many an occasion, her mischievous pranks acknowledging ecstasy at having been blessed to be in the Divine Presence, were testimonies to the unmatched love,  pristine in quality, she has had for her Beloved Master, Bhagawan,  that for sure would be envied even by human beings. It was not a mere coincidence that brought The Creator and His Creation together in the Mudumalai forest marking the beginning of this glorious tale of love. It was a Divine happenstance, a well-crafted Master Plan by the Divine that would have had its roots linked to many previous births that had made such a meeting possible.  Sai Gita is a Shuddha Brahmacharini (pristine and perfect celibate). She has come for Me, said Bhagawan once, at the end of a long arduous trial she had been forced to undertake at the instance of some senior devotees; she had been ‘reluctantly’ sent to the forest for breeding at the dogged persuasion of some senior devotees in the ashram for no positive result. Sai Gita is history now and essentially a part of His-Story. In death body goes…but the soul, the indestructible divine essence in every being does move on, on a soul-search…and the soul of Sai Gita moved on to successfully find the bond beyond bondage, The Light that has been keeping her life a glowing fantasy that even exalted humans fail to achieve. “Death is the denouement of the drama of life” wrote Prof N. Kasturi. For those who loved Sai Gita, her passing away would definitely mark the end of a drama in physical and leave a vacuum that would never be filled. Devotees would definitely miss her beautifully caparisoned frame majestically leading processions, her gorgeous princely gait, rare sight of tears of love rolling down her cheeks, the beauty of her being cuddled and fed by Mother Sai so affectionately, her unruffled nonchalant looks dissipating every passing thought into the gleam of eternity and lots more…. But, her footprints would continue her legacy in the hearts of millions who loved her so dearly. Sai Gita indeed lived a Life…Full! Adorned as a Little PrincessThere came Sai Gita to Prasanthi NilayamRejoiced Prasanthi in her endearing presence…and struck a love tale…Creator with His creationEchoed the song of her heart’s melodyL-O-V-E for Baba…L-I-F-E for Baba!Gazing at Baba, she weptThe King returned ‘His Own’ to herHis Love was what she soughtHis Heart was what she conqueredKnowing fully, still unknowingly…She lived a Life…a Life Full…Unruffled and nonchalantDissipating every passing thought…into the gleam of eternityYet, in the end came ‘the end’Denouement of the drama of life…Yet, she survived the scare…deathBasking in the love of her ‘Sun’At the end…she receded…devoutlyInto the clasp of eternity!Into a Bond Beyond Bondage!Farewell Oh! Dear,Little Princess, Sai Gita!!!We salute You, Oh! Little Princess!!! For the passersby on the roadside, for those who pass by, to and fro Parthi, a peep through the gate to have a glimpse of the blessed elephant would definitely be missing from now on…one would peep to have a darshan of her samadhi hereafter, and there, one would feel her touch, her legacy, a feeling that would peep into the nostalgic past of her glorious sojourn. Little clue did we have of the Divine Vision Bhagawan had while getting along with the construction of a ‘Sai Gita Mahal’, a new home for His pet-elephant inaugurated in November 2006. Reminding one of the story of Shirdi Sai wherein the Muralidhar Mandir constructed at the ‘instance’ and blessings of Baba had finally turned out to become the ‘Samadhi’ Mandir of Baba Himself, who had expressed His

Travelling To The Light…

Travelling To The Light… Ana Elena Diaz-Viana received a spiritual gift from Bhagawan the night of November 23, 1975. At that time, she didn’t know Him, had never heard of Him, and didn’t even have any idea as to why she was having the experience. In March 1976 Bhagawan appeared for the first time in her dreams and six years later she went to India to be in the Divine Presence. Bhagawan has guided her mostly through dreams and personal experiences. She received a technical degree in Computer Sciences in her native Venezuela, where she was the founder of Sai Centres in different cities of the country and eventually worked for the S.S.S.B Organization, becoming the first president of the Venezuela’s Coordinating Committee in October 1988. Since 1993 she lives in the US. In a visit to Swami in 1997 He gave her indications to ‘write’, but remained apprehensive for want of further hints and details. In the next trips Swami would make gestures as a joke about her ‘inability’ to write a word.  After helping with the Spanish translation of the book ‘Sai Thy Kingdom Come’ that speaks about the extraordinary prospects of Sathya Sai Avatar, she realises the extraordinary time we are living now.  Awaiting Bhagawan and His Golden Age, she wonders at the bounteous blessings of being a witness to epochal times of Sathya Sai Avatar.   Nothing could be more difficult than offering something to the Lord.  For the hundredth time I watch through my window. The golden-brownish leaf refuses to leave the tree, the sun and wind have been punishing it for a while, but it is still there…attached.  I have been waiting for the small leaf to drop as if it was a divine signal. For the hundredth time, I’m going through the inner revision of my motives to write this story, scrutinizing the depths of my heart, reviewing the intricate layers and disguises of my ego. Would it ever leave? Swami asked me to write many years ago. He used to tenderly scold me with a twinkle in His beautiful eyes: ‘you have been here two weeks doing nothing!’ As He encouraged me, He also knew I wasn’t ready. My shyness, my silence, my ego, my reluctance to get out of my mind…. Sreejith, a dear friend is now playing Swami’s role in pushing me to write, and at my age, I may not have too much time to continue delaying this unfulfilled request. This story is not mine, it is actually a script written by Thy Hand. Here I am, Divine Sri Sathya Sai Baba, my beloved Swami, at Your Divine Lotus Feet. With all my imperfections, offering just the intention to transcribe the script, the action and the results are all Your’s. Divine Light In November 1975, I was a 25-yr old mother living in Maracaibo, Venezuela. At that time, I was going through an existential crisis. Although I have read about religious experiences, nothing could have prepared me for the event and the life-changing experience that started on the night of November 23rd. By early November I had been preparing for my son’s fifth birthday party and celebrating a job promotion. I was enjoying a successful career in Information Technology, a field that at the time had a high demand for professionals. Apparently from a personal and material point of view, my life seemed a fulfilled existence, needing nothing. Why did I feel so empty all of a sudden?  Was the most recent job promotion what brought this realization? There was no material success or worldly affair or mundane love enough to fill the void in my entire being!  I thought I was going through a depression, but other than this feeling of emptiness I continued to function as usual. One night, while working late as usual, I felt the void and desperation taking over my mind, regardless of my need to focus on work. This time, I realized it was coming from unresolved basic existential questions. Everything was meaningless! The feeling was overwhelming.  Driving home I asked God if He really remembered His creation. Is He aware of His creation? If so, could He please demonstrate to me that He was listening or will this be a one-side conversation again? Between the ages of 5 and 9 I could clearly remember conversations with Him, it was so natural to feel His presence in my heart! Then, when I was 10 years old my parents moved to a farm, and I was sent to a Catholic boarding school. The religious practices were designed around a rigid daily schedule of prayers and masses.  Perhaps to balance all these obligatory rituals, once in a while I used to go alone to the Chapel and sit in front of the Crucifix. Not praying, it was my only opportunity to talk to Him: Why do I have to see You in a statue? Why do I have to settle and have faith just by listening to the stories of the Gospels, rather than experiencing You in the flesh? Why did You come almost 2,000 years ago and not now? I would have followed You! I would have recognized You among the people. Why is everyone saying You died for our sins? I wasn’t even born then! Why? My ‘complaining’ session would usually end with: “I am sorry to say that I am like Saint Thomas*, I desperately need to see You! If You are really listening, give me proof!” Fifteen years later, in that blessed night of early November’ 75, my plight was still the same but the pain, this time, was unbearable. Looking up at the starry night and doubting His existence, I raised my hand –as if possible to touch Him- and asked: “If You really hear me, give me proof!”…. Nothing prepared me to expect a trip across the universe as part of the answer. Some days later, I was working on a weekend. There was a payroll modification that had

Timeless Joy with The Eternal

His Own Words…

His Own Words… What is Sathya Sai’s Sankalpam? How is His Avatarhood, Supra-Worldly Divinity as He calls it, so special for humanity today and for the morrow? When Bhagawan speaks about Himself… it becomes a rare treat of His Avataric Intention, that takes us to unknown realms of rare beauty, bright future ladden with Divine mystery… a compilation of His ‘own’ words about His ‘own’ Divine Self!!! This was My experience in previous Yugas also. The successors of Sisupala cannot remain idle; but consider to what low level human wickedness has descended. I do not care either for praise or blame, I only pity these people who, in order to scrape together a few paise from the poor resort to such venial tricks …I declare, “Even if all the fourteen worlds unite together, the work for which I have come will not suffer a bit; even if earth and heaven combine, My Truth can never be fully grasped.” Whenever there is a languishing of Dharma …I create Myself, for it is part of primal resolution or Sankalpa to protect the spiritual structure of the Universe. I lay aside My formless essence and assume a name and a form suited to the purpose for which I come. Whenever evil threatens to vanquish good, I have to come and save it from decline. The Avatar of Krishna was a full incarnation, with all the sixteen facets of glory. In the Avatar of Rama, out of sixteen, the three brothers had one each and Parasurama, the contemporary, had one, until Rama met and overpowered Him and drew within Himself the fraction of the Divine power that he had. Other incarnations were for ad hoc purposes, the suppression of evil represented by one evil person or group of persons. But, in this Kali age, the wicked have to be reformed and reconstructed through love and compassion. That is why this Avatar has come unarmed; It has come with the message of love. The only weapon which can transform the vile and the vicious is the Name of the Lord uttered with love. At the present time Mahashakti, Mayashakti and Yogashakti have come all together in one human form; your endeavour should be to draw near and earn grace therefrom. In truth, you cannot understand the nature of My reality either today or even after a thousand years of steady austerity or ardent inquiry, even if all mankind joins in that effort. But in a short time, you will become cognizant of the bliss showered by the Divine Principle, which has taken upon Itself this sacred Body and this sacred Name. Your good fortune which will provide you this chance is greater than what was available for anchorites, monks, sages, saints and even personalities embodying facets of Divine glory. Since I move about with you, eat like you, and talk with you, you are deluded into the belief that this is but an instance of common humanity. Be warned against this mistake. I Am also deluding you by My singing with you, talking with you, and engaging Myself in activities with you. But any moment, My Divinity may be revealed to you; you have to be ready, prepared for that moment. Since Divinity is enveloped by humanness, you must endeavour to overcome the Maya (delusion) that hides it from your eyes. This is a human form, in which every Divine entity, every Divine principle, that is to say, `all the names and forms ascribed by man to God, are manifest.’ (Sarvadaivatwa Swarupaanni Dharinchinatuvanti Maanavaakaarame Ee Aakaaramu). Do not allow doubt to distract you; if you only install, in the alter of your heart, steady faith in My Divinity, you can win a vision of My Reality. Instead, if you swing like the pendulum of a clock, one moment devotion, another moment disbelief, you can never succeed in comprehending the Truth and win that bliss. You are very fortunate that you have a chance to experience the bliss of the vision of the Sarvadaivatwa Swarupam (The Form which is all forms of all Gods) now, in this life itself. Let Me draw your attention to another fact. On previous occasions when God incarnated on Earth, the bliss of recognizing Him in the incarnation was vouchsafed only after the physical embodiment had left the world, in spite of plenty of patent evidences of His grace. And the loyalty and devotion they commanded from men arose through fear and awe, at their superhuman powers and skills, or at their imperial and penal authority. But, ponder a moment on this Sathya Sai manifestation; in this age of rampant materialism, aggressive disbelief and irreverence, what is it that brings to it the adoration of millions from all over the world? You will be convinced that the basic reason for this is the fact that this is the Supra-Worldly Divinity in human form. Again, how fortunate you are that you can witness all the countries of the world paying homage to Bharat; you can hear adoration to Sathya Sai’s Name reverberating throughout the world, even while this body is existing…not at some future date but when It is with you, before you. And you can witness very soon the restoration of Sanathana Dharma to its genuine and natural status, the Dharma laid down in the Vedas for the good of all the peoples of the World. This Is the Sai Sankalpam.

The Divine Advent - Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba Birthday

Grace in the Hour of Need

Grace in the Hour of Need It is often said that Divine grace is like an unseen insurance—ever present and showered in abundance when most needed. Such was my experience, one that reaffirmed my faith in the loving protection of the Divine. I have never been one to take naps during the day, but one afternoon in June 2003, I returned home from work and lay down beside my mother. Before I knew it, I had drifted into sleep. In that brief slumber, I had a vivid and beautiful dream. I saw an image of the Lord Shiva transforming into my beloved Sathya Sai Baba, and then back again—a seamless blend of two forms of the same divine consciousness. I woke up overwhelmed with joy. It was the first time I had been blessed with such a vision in my dream, and I felt a deep peace settle within. A few weeks later, that divine reassurance manifested in a very real way. My mother accidentally fell from the stairs at home and sustained severe injuries. I was the only one with her at that time. Seeing her lying motionless, bleeding, I froze for a moment—yet, somehow, I found the strength to act. It was as though an unseen hand steadied me and guided my every move. I managed to call for help, and within minutes my uncle and a few others arrived to take her to the hospital. Before she was taken away, I applied Vibuthi [holy ash] to the wound on her forehead, praying silently for her safety. At the hospital, doctors found that she needed stitches and had fractured ribs. She was kept under observation overnight. After my father and brother arrived at the hospital, my younger sister and I returned home, worried but hopeful. At midnight, we received a call from our father, asking us to pray earnestly—her condition had suddenly worsened. I sat down and began writing the Divine Name (Likitha Japa) repeatedly, pouring my fear and love into every stroke. The following morning, our father returned with the news that she was safe. She had undergone emergency surgery for internal bleeding, and the doctors said her recovery would take time, but she was now out of danger. Years later, I happened to reconnect with the doctor who had operated on my mother, and what he shared left me speechless. He recounted how, despite everything appearing normal, he had been suddenly awakened in the middle of the night by a strong inner prompting—an intuition that something was wrong. His words were as follows: “My connection with Sai spans over three generations since my grandfather walked with Sai. Anything important I do is by His blessings, and I am only the means of His actions. Even all our major activities automatically come around and are fulfilled on a Thursday. “I am a scientific person and not a very religious one in the traditional sense. But I am blessed and have seen so many incidents that they cannot be coincidences. Your mother’s case too was one such miracle. “It was a weekday when your mother was brought to the hospital in the evening after a major fall. Since she had a big wound on her head, she was referred to me. I sutured the wound and admitted her in the ICU for observation. Everything was apparently fine, and she was stable when I left the hospital after reassuring your family. “At 2 a.m., I woke up suddenly and felt that something was wrong. So, I called the hospital and asked the nurse about your mother. The nurse told me she was fine and resting. I thought I could go back to sleep, but something kept telling me all was not well. “So, I got up, got dressed, and drove to the hospital despite their reassurance. Upon reaching the ICU, I went straight to your mother’s bedside, woke her up, and found that all seemed fine. However, being someone who follows my gut instinct, I re-examined her whole body and found her a little cold to the touch. “It was then I noticed a bruise on her abdomen and found it slightly bloated. And right there in front of me, her blood pressure began to fall. “I immediately asked the nurse for an emergency scan of the abdomen. The radiologist was reluctant to come at that unearthly hour, and I had to insist, as there was no time for niceties. I had already diagnosed in my mind that she had a ruptured spleen, which could be fatal. “I called up my junior colleague, a general surgeon, and told him that your mother needed emergency surgery and that he should start as I go about telling the family and organizing blood among other things. “The blood bank staff at a nearby hospital were alert since I had gone there personally along with your brother. They did not have the necessary B-positive group ready. I immediately offered my own blood, which was of the same group, and after donating it, I asked your brother to do the same and bring it to the operating theatre as soon as it was processed. “I rushed back to the hospital to join the surgeon who had already started the operation. After that, all went well, and your mother is among us today. “I believe that Sai is the one that connects us to the Divine power and we must keep our minds and hearts open to this Divinity.” My mother’s recovery was swift and complete. Within a few weeks, she was walking again and soon returned to her normal life. Looking back now, I realize that the dream I had, of the divine form merging and reappearing was a message of assurance, a reminder that the Swami is ever watchful, ever present, and ever compassionate. Grace flows silently, but its power is immeasurable. It guides, protects, and heals—often in ways we only understand in hindsight. In our moments of despair, when human strength fails, it

That Touch Of Golden Grace

That Touch Of Golden Grace 24 August 2007 shines forth as a red letter day, further imbued with the exhilarating colours of the rainbow, in the annals of Sri Sathya Sai Books & Publications Trust, as the Lord of the Universe graciously decreed to bless this Institution on this date. The portals of the SSSBPT acquired a most privileged status by the sacrosanct touch of Bhagawan’s cherished Lotus Feet, on that wondrous morning. During that period of time, the prevalent custom was to pray for Divine blessings on the anniversary day, imploring Bhagawan to speak to His selected band of students. Thus, that particular year too, on 23rd August 2007, the members of the staff (most of them students from Bhagawan’s Institute) along with the Convener, with a fervent appeal in each heartbeat, traced their footsteps to His Divine Abode, seeking His amaranthine benevolence. …And Lo! The group was called in! After consecrating the anniversary cake, to the sublime joy of the gathering, Bhagawan browsed through the card offered to Him, which revealed the fervent feelings of each member of the workforce at the Book Trust – “Swami, it has been 6 years since You visited our office; We have been waiting for Bhagawan with a thousand eyes!” Incidentally, when Bhagawan had come to inaugurate the newly constructed building of the Publications Division, He chose to intermingle around the Book Stall area, blessing eager staff members. At that time however, the SSSBPT did not house an elevator and Bhagawan, for reasons best known to Him alone, preferred to bypass the mezzanine floor that housed the administrative section and the library. Subsequently, the facility of an elevator was provided, following which a prayer was offered to Bhagawan to sanctify the building with His footprints. To continue the narration, to the great delight of the Book Trust team members, Bhagawan pronounced, “I AM coming to your office tomorrow.” The promise was a bolt out of the blue!!! …Most unexpected!!! Someone then whispered in Bhagawan’s ear, as if ‘reminding’ Him about the next day’s scheduled festivity – Varalakshmi Vratam. Nonetheless, Bhagawan reaffirmed, “I AM coming!” The group came out of the Divine Abode, in extreme jubilation, perhaps akin to having just landed after an expedition to the moon, with their hearts filled and fulfilled! They put their heads together excitedly, to decide the course of action for the impending Divine visit. The Book Trust witnessed a flurry of activities throughout the preceding night to make sure that everything was spotless and picture perfect, vis a vis the ‘demands’ of the ‘high-voltage’ Divine visit.  The entire premises were decorated beautifully for the occasion. The next morning all hearts were anticipating the momentous moment, embracing a billion hopes, with ceaseless prayers. While each heartbeat was tuned in to Yajur Mandiram with a regular inflow of updates, some agile minds were busy with various permutations and combinations, as Bhagawan Himself had taught us to “Love His Uncertainty.” As a flashback, it would interest our readers to note that, following the inaugural visit in 2001, later when Bhagawan was ‘invited’ for the 1st anniversary, He had readily given a Divine acquiesce. Nevertheless, it so transpired that when the D-day – 23rd August 2002 dawned, after a prolonged wait through the day, it was communicated in the afternoon, well past 1400 hrs. – “Swami is not coming.” Reverting back to the 2007 story, at last, at 8:35 hrs, news flashed that Bhagawan had left Yajur Mandiram. As Bhagawan was wheeled into Kulwant Hall, He moved amidst rows of devotees, specially seated for the scheduled Varalakshmi Pooja. Bhagawan then went on to the dais, lit the lamp and sat for sometime glancing at the devotees. Even as the rituals commenced, Bhagawan signaled for His car…and the ‘wire’ reached the Book Trust through waves that beat the speed of lightning – Bhagawan is on His way! Notwithstanding time or place, devotees swarm like bees wherever Bhagawan is expected to arrive or pass by. On this morning, too, when the news flashed, roadsides were full of ‘rushing’ devotees, ever so keen to catch a precious glimpse of the Beloved One. At the Book Trust, the whole ‘family’ got on to its feet, gearing up for the final whistle, to embrace the glorious moment.  At 8:50 a.m., Bhagawan arrived in His ‘Porte’ to a customary, religious welcome with Poornakumbham, amidst electrifying Vedic chantings. The elevator that had made its debut after His maiden ‘inaugural’ visit, conveyed the Lord up to the mezzanine floor, the venue of the day’s programme. As Beloved Bhagawan came out of the lift, He was given a red-carpet welcome, flanked by staff members on both sides, some offering a rose, while many had their palms joined, in a gesture of deep reverence. He lovingly blessed all those who were present, glancing and smiling at everyone…and in between, while His chair was being maneuvered, He even looked up, seemingly to read the message displayed on the wall, profound words from the Divine lips, inscribed in shining gold, a timeless truth for mankind to practice – “There is only one Religion, the Religion of Love.” The programme commenced with lighting of the lamp by the Divine hands. The dais was ready with a big backdrop image of a beaming Bhagawan. Exuding tranquillity, it felt as though Bhagawan was portraying that this particular morning was exclusively reserved for the Book Trust. Bhajans were on and continued forth until Bhagawan asked the Convener to deliver an introductory speech. Speaking up, saying that Bhagawan’s visit would be written in golden letters in the annals of the Book Trust, Sri Rajan, the Convener, gave a brief account detailing the progress made by the Trust.  Sri Rajan reiterated that Bhagawan’s message was spreading to every nook and corner of the world through the medium of ‘Sanathana Sarathi’ as well as various books and audiovisuals. He went on to reaffirm that all this was possible only due to Bhagawan’s immense grace. Concluding his brief speech, Sri Rajan implored Bhagawan earnestly to bless the Trust with His

Timeless Joy with The Eternal

Don’t Worry; I will give him realisation…

Don’t Worry; I will give him realisation… Great Masters with complete awareness know what they do… and so with Avatars… it will be foolhardy for man to attempt to gauge their actions, rather man should submit to the will of Great Masters and Avatars…  Years ago, Bhagawan Nithyananda of Ganeshpuri had direted one of His disciples to visit Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai… For Swami Shradhanand, the trip turned out to be an ‘enlightening’ one… enlightened to know that God Is One…and One Only!!! …narrates Dr DJ Gadhia. Swami Shradhanand, a disciple of Swami Nithyananda of Ganeshpuri (or Vajreshwari) near Mumbai, attended one of these programmes in 1962. Soon after the Arati, he went into meditation. Later, he came to us and said, “My Guru has suggested that I should have the Darshan of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba only with Dr Gadhia”. So, we proceeded to Puttaparthi on the very next day. A very memorable incident happened in the interview room. When Swami started waving His right hand to materialise Vibhuti, Swami Shradhanand caught hold of His hand! All devotees in the room were stunned. I was utterly shocked because it seemed to me that Swami was insulted by a person that I brought. This was the right time Swami taught us the lesson as He used to teach often, “My Life Is My Message.” He was not offended and on the contrary, He smiled and spoke softly and with loving care, “Why did you hold My hand?” Swami Shradhanand replied, “I have not come here to see peppermints and chocolates You distribute everyday to these children; I have come with a very great expectation from You!” Bhagawan replied, “Swami knows that you recite Gayatri Mantra everyday and your Sadhana has reached up to the point of saturation so much so that you are going to get liberation soon. So, continue with your Sadhana.” Nobody was aware of this. Swami Shradhanand was surprised and became happy and apologised for his mistake. Then Swami said, “Don’t worry, mistakes are like passing clouds. Let Swami distribute peppermint and chocolates to these children.” He waved His hand and materialised Vibhuti and distributed to all, except Swami Shradhanand! Bhagawan then asked Swami Shradhanand, “Would you mind if Swami gives interviews to these children first?” When I was granted interview, Swami assured me by saying, “Don’t worry, Swami will give him (Swami Shradhanand) realization.” When Baba granted him a personal interview, Swami Shradhanand started shedding tears of joy and prostrated at the Lotus Feet of Bhagawan, saying, “Oh my Master! You Are residing here in the form of Sri Sathya Sai. I am very grateful to You for granting me this Vision!” Swami Shradhanand would just not stop crying. Having come out of the interview room, Swami Shradhanand gave a vivid description of his wonderful experience. He said, “Baba did not ask me anything nor did He give any opportunity to ask questions, but straightaway said, `Look here!’ and opened His gown (Kafni), revealed His chest and gave a vision of my Guru, Swami Nithyananda! I am really fortunate for having had such a realisation. I am also grateful to you, Gadhia, for having brought me here!” We learnt a great lesson. Swami can give realisation of any form or Guru or any incarnation to anyone deserving, and that is the reason why He is known as `Sarva Devata Swarupa’ (Sarvadevatateeta Swarupa, as Bhagawan Himself mentioned once). Why People Should Protect the Environment

Why People Should Protect the Environment Why Should We Protect the Environment? Swami says that it is necessary to help the environment because when we do there is balance in nature. So plants, animals, and humans can live harmoniously on one planet. In order to make this balance, we can do simple things around the house. For example, we can use water conservatively so that we don’t deplete this essential resource. If humans waste water, the plants and animals, too, will suffer. The fish in the ocean won’t have enough water to live and swim in. The fish need a lot of water in the rivers and streams to survive. We can write letters to the factories and ask them not to put their waste in the rivers and the streams. If they stop, then we will have cleaner rivers and streams. We can help conserve water by starting at home. Just remember, everything counts, even if it’s small. Jai Sairam! ~Harini Babu (Group 2, age 11) Why People Should Protect the Environment Men have abused our planet earth’s resources resulting in the pollution of air, water, and soil. Earth’s resources aren’t only for humans but for all living things, too. Antarctica and the North Pole are warming due to the pollution of air and the green house effect endangering their ecosystems. Diseases and natural calamities are increasing, resulting in huge problems for people. Humans created these problems, so humans must fix them. I think the earth is sick because it is polluted by the people’s greed. We need to conserve our natural resources and not waste them. As Swami says, to help conserve nature people should live simply and have only what they need and not what they want. I would like all the people in the world to follow Swami’s Ceiling on Desires teachings, namely not to waste food, money, time, energy, and knowledge. When we start loving and respecting all the living things, limiting our desires, and protecting the environment in the right ways, then the earth will be saved for tomorrow’s children. ~Anand Chandrasekhar (Group 2, age 11) The environment is our home. We need to take care of it. For example, don’t litter, turn off the lights, the T.V., and computers when you are not using them. We need to keep the environment neat, clean, and tidy. This way we can live in a great place! ~Samyukta Rao (Group 1, age 9) Mother Earth has been giving us so much, and yet we hurt her. Everything you see is polluted in some way now. We are using her for the resources she has given us. The imbalance is causing disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. Since we are born with a blessing to think for ourselves, we must help Mother Earth by recycling, planting trees, picking up trash, and using bicycles for transportation. These are only a few ways to help mother earth, but if we all take part in this seva, believe me, we will make a difference together. ~Anusha Saga (Group 2, age 11) Saving Our Earth Saving earth is probably the most important thing that you could ever imagine. It is a problem we have created and we have to solve it. Pollution is the main cause and it comes from cars, factories, etc. But, we see pollution all around us, not only in the air. We pollute our waters: when you take a shower or go to the bathroom, where does that water go? That’s right, the ocean. The ocean is home to many creatures big and small. From the tiniest plankton to the biggest blue whale, all are affected by our pollution. We also pollute the land. Trash dumps are a huge problem. We are polluting the earth and its resources at great speed—electricity, smog, trash, water pollution, etc. These are all problems caused by us only. Do whatever you can to help the earth, whether it is something as simple as switching off lights, or as big as writing to the president, asking for a law to help. Every small effort counts and you can make a big difference! ~Gaia Jinsi (Group 2, age 10) Our earth is very important to us. Chief Seattle once said, “The earth does not belong to man; man belongs to the earth….” Our earth has enough to satisfy everybody’s needs, but not everybody’s greed. Baba says, “Nature gives and forgives but man takes and forgets.” Baba also says, less luggage more comfort. To me it means to just have what is required and not be greedy, and to be grateful to earth. One way, I feel, we can make a difference is, if our schools stop printing and just emailed all the flyers, we can save lots of paper and trees. If all the schools in our county practice this, then we will prevent the trees from being cut unnecessarily and save our earth from global warming. ~Sai Keerthana Cherukuri (Group 1, age 9) We all have to respect our earth as we respect our parents. We have to stop polluting and have ceiling on desires like Baba says. How do we stop polluting? We have to stop throwing trash all around our earth, we have to stop throwing trash in water, just because we can’t see it doesn’t mean we can throw trash in water. We have to love our earth. One way we can save earth is to use more solar energy, which will save our natural resources. It is very important that we have ceiling on desires. ~Sai Saketh Cherukuri (Group 1, age 6) The environment is very important in our daily lives and most of what we do and how we live revolves around the environment. Simple acts such as recycling and picking up trash from the ground can make a huge impact on the damage that is being done. Swami says that nature is like our mother, and therefore it is essential that we
