Bhajans

Divine Words of wisdom by Sathya Sai Baba – On Bhajans 1. Community bhajan is noblest of all Your browser does not support the audio element. 1996-07-19 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description The word and the mind are futile in their attempts to understand the Divine. By singing together there is every possibility for one’s devotion to blossom and to reach out to everyone. Collective singing is the noblest of all. It was Guru nanak who started ‘bhajans’, the collective and community singing. It is this collective singing, ‘bhajans’ that liberate man. Kabir das, Tulsidas, Ramdas- redeemed their lives by singing bhajans. There is such mighty strength latent in singing the glory of the Lord! One may say that God has no form but He has a name.

Students

Divine Words of wisdom by Sathya Sai Baba – On Philosophical concepts 1. Get good name to all; Convocation message Your browser does not support the audio element. 1996-11-22 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description So students, it’s a great opportunity. You should consider this as a scared day. Good teachings should enter your heart. You should tread along the right path in life. You should earn a good name. That’s the only thing I want from you. Get a good name, Get a good name for your parents, Get a good name for the institute where you studied. Then you will naturally get a good name and reputation. Greatness does not lie in doing bad actions. Even an insect harms, but causing harm is not humanness. You dont need to be afraid of anything. Fear the truth. You are not an animal to have this trait of fear, you are not a wild animal to cause fear . You are a human, therefore I should not be afraid of anything nor should I cause fear in others. When once you recognize this truth and lead your life, you can reform the society. Students, not only you being good, you should encourage your friends to tread along this sacred path and redeem their lives. I fondly hope and bless that you do this and doing so I bring my discourse to a close. 2. Convocation message to Students Your browser does not support the audio element. 1996-07-31 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description “At least you act on the good thought the moment it rises and do good actions without wasting time. Never give chance or scope to bad thoughts and deeds.” That is the greatest task of today’s youth. The students are the future citizens of the country. Hence students must develop good thoughts, tread the right path and get a good name that they are the ideal citizens of the country.

Yoga

Divine Words of wisdom by Sathya Sai Baba – On Yoga 1. The Essence of Patanjali Yoga is Unity in Thought, Word and Deed Your browser does not support the audio element. 1993-05-30 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description To some, the worldly appears to be good. For how long? It is only temporary. This is called happiness (santhosham). What is the meaning? Some…thosham – it’s a fractional happiness or a gift. You feel hungry, you go to the canteen; you ate two chapatis; hunger is appeased but for how long? It is only for two hours. In the third hour, again you feel hungry. Therefore that which confers temporary happiness is called Sukham. But that which confers divine happiness (Daivanandam) is called Bliss (Anandam). Just enquire the difference between happiness and bliss. This bliss comes out of the heart; happiness comes out of the head. Head carries the responsibility; but heart has right. For every man, head and heart are important. Think good; you then reflect upon it. Then put it into action with hands what you thought. Therefore, the heart, head and hand together assume the ‘3H’ form. In Patanjali Yoga it is said that we should exercise control over the senses and also achieve unity of the senses. Unity…unity…unity… That’s why it is said – the proper study of mankind is man. What is this mankind? It’s the harmony of three – heart, word and action. Therefore, out of this unity we will develop purity; through purity we will step into Divinity. The moment we step into Divinity, the enmity will be set away. Therefore the Patanjali Yoga sutra confers the Divinity. So, to the extent possible, the young students – boys and girls, in times of anger or difficulties, they should be able to tolerate and forbear, face it boldly and earn the patience to move forward. In the beginning stage, you may find it a bit difficult. As you practice, gradually it becomes a habit. Walking, talking, reading, writing, eating… everything comes out of practice. Everything is accomplished only by practice which brought us to this level. Do just-born babies start run immediately? No. First the child gets up, crawls, stands up, falls, again gets up and eventually starts walking. Therefore, we have to develop such practices gradually. Therefore, this yoga is not meant only for rishis, yogis and renunciants but it is essential for every human being with the body. 2. There Cannot be a Healthy Body Without a Mind Filled With Sacred Thoughts Your browser does not support the audio element. 1993-05-30 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description Patanjali dedicated his life for the sake of yoga. Not only this. He propagated that human life is based upon health and that without health it cannot exist; that for all activities body is most essential and for the body discipline is most essential. And that the most important role of yoga is to impart this discipline. Na Sreyo Niyamam Vina – There can be no welfare without discipline. There are some rules and disciplines for yoga too. Eating within limits and eating healthy is also essential. Food must also be tasty. But taste should not be all important either. We should also know the sacredness of the material. But man today is not taking into account these two factors. Eating whatever comes his way, man is completely ruining his health. Food is for the sustenance of the body and clothes are for protection from the cold. Food is for the maintenance of the body and not for your taste. Hunger is a disease, food is the medicine; thirst is a disease and water is the medicine. We want that this medicine should be very tasty. We should never give consideration to the taste when it comes to medicine. Relief from disease should alone be the goal. Similarly, today we give much importance to the taste of what we eat. We fail to recognise the true value of the food. Nowadays, foreigners following discipline in eating, have reduced eating spicy, salty and sour foods. The goal of Patanjali yoga is complete health and complete peace. As we are not able to practice such yoga these days, nerves become weak and the rate of blood circulation rises, causing more agitations in us. The reason for such agitations is essentially blood pressure. And this blood pressure is cause due to absence of rest. And this lack of rest is caused due to lack of sleep. Today, wherever you see in the world man is facing many agitations.

Religion

Divine Words of wisdom by Sathya Sai Baba – On Religion 1. Myths about christmas and christianity Your browser does not support the audio element. 1998-12-25 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description Today is a Christmas holiday. How did you get this word Christmas? This is a Roman word. Christmas doesn’t actually fall in the month of December. Just because it is the cold season and as it is not possible to move around, people want to stay back at home and do household work; hence they have chosen December for celebrating Christmas. In fact, it is in March that Christ was born. The authors of books have changed the month altogether. Louis was an author from Germany and he has written just the opposite. As heads vary, so also thoughts vary. People went on writing as they liked. There are some who wrote that Jesus was never born! There are some who have written that it was the brother of Jesus who was crucified and not Jesus. Some have written that Jesus was in Japan when his brother was crucified. All this is imagination. Jesus is truth – he is one who experienced it all.

Never criticize nature; See Divinity in it Your browser does not support the audio element. 1996-06-20 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description We can never neglect worldly nature. This is also divine and it is in the form of action. This is the effect in the cause and effect relationship. The world is the connection for cause and effect. You should see God in the physical world. You can see God in each and every atom. So, do not end your education with worldly knowledge.

Guru

Divine Words of wisdom by Sathya Sai Baba – On Philosophical concepts 1.God is your true Guru Your browser does not support the audio element. 1996-07-30 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description Embodiments of love!! How happy and peaceful the whole world would be if everyone fostered pure, benevolent, sacred and divine thoughts!! One should not hate anybody. “Sarvabhoota tiraskaaram kesavam pratigachchathe” denying or rejecting another is like denying or rejecting God. Therefore, God alone is one’s guru. “Gurur guruhu” He is teacher of teachers. When one has steadfastness one does not suffer. “Korinaphalamichchu kalpavrukshambunda, Peratipushpamunakai preetiyela? Adigina paalichchu kaamadhenuvve yunda Dhanamichchi aavunu konaganela? Why aspire for the flower in the backyard when one has the wish fulfilling tree by his side? Why buy a cow when one has the “Kamadhenu’ the divine cow that yields milk at one’s mere asking? When man has the ‘Kalpavruksha’ the wish fulfilling tree, ‘Kamadhenu’ the celestial cow, then why beg others? All are children of God, parts of the same divine, the manifestation of divinity. Hence it is said in Geetha, “mamaivamso jeevaloke jeevabhootahsanatanaha”- all are the sparks of the divine and the eternal.

Sevadal

Divine Words of wisdom by Sathya Sai Baba – On Sevadal 1.Sevadal should never enter into politics: Guidelines to the Members of the Sri Sathya Sai Organisation Your browser does not support the audio element. 1996-07-31 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description The members of Sevadal participating either in samithi or as Sevadal or in bhajan activity or in study circle or in any other field must not enter into politics. Love all and serve all!! The Sevadal should not differentiate based on religion, caste or party and within themselves they should not give room to any party feelings. One should try to understand that the essence of all religions is the oneness of everything. Sevadals must live together as brothers and sisters. There are two things that an organisation should achieve: 1- “The brotherhood of man” – to think that all are brothers, 2- “Fatherhood of God”- One must believe that all are the children of one God. One must develop the feeling of love that all are the children of one mother. When one develops such love for fellow beings, there would be no scope for feelings of hatred or envy. Nobody should give scope for Feelings of personal hatred. When working in an organisation, one must consider all others as one’s siblings. Embodiments of Love!! There might have been differences of opinions in the past among the Sevadal, but from the present moment, one must set aside the feelings of animosity and greet each other warmly “Sairam” and lead good lives. But merely saying “Sairam” since Swami has said so is of no use. One must not lead artificial lives. Some lead such lives; when they see people liked by them they go out of their way to greet them with “Sairam” in a loving manner. When they see a person whom they don’t like, they greet with a very a curt “Sairam”. There must be no difference or distinction made in greeting others. One’s words must be soft and sweet for that is the quintessence of God head. Greet everyone lovingly. One must remember: one cannot always oblige but can always speak obligingly. One must fill one’s words, behaviour, actions and heart with sweetness. One must usher in the era of new living into the world.

Sai Organization

Divine Words of wisdom by Sathya Sai Baba – On Sai Organization 1. Swami’s guidelines to leaders of the organisation and Sevadal Your browser does not support the audio element. 1984-11-21 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description As long as one is alive, one must participate in Seva at least for a few hours every day. Workers and Sevaks have been serving wholeheartedly and with full confidence. But some of the leaders are not giving enough impetus and encouragement to them. Leaders must lead from front, but these leaders are pushing from behind. Some of the so called leaders do not lead from front causing disappointment and disinterest in the workers. Swami hopes that the leaders will lead from front at least in future. This is not to say that all leaders are like this, only some are. But in Sathya Sai organisations there must be no room for such kinks. Members must be cent percent, true Sevaks. The second aspect: the members of Sevadal participating either in samithi or in Sevadal or in bhajan activity or in study circle or in any other field must not enter into politics. Love all and serve all!! The Sevadal should not differentiate based on religion or party and within themselves they should not give room to any party feelings. One should try to understand that the essence of all religions is the oneness of everything. Sevadal must live together as brothers and sisters. There are two things that this organisation should achieve: 1- “The brotherhood of man” – to think that all are brothers, 2- “Fatherhood of God”- the belief that all are the children of one God. Man

Divine Words of wisdom by Sathya Sai Baba – On Man 1. Who is true human being Your browser does not support the audio element. 1996-06-22 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description Who is a human being? Is it the one with a physical form having legs and hands? Do not mistake the fruits of silk cotton tree as mango fruits, Do not mistake small white stones to a sugar candy, Do not mistake the useless straw to sugarcane and chew it, Do not be deceived by the external appearances, Character alone is the true nature of human!! When one tries to see the character, the real human nature is not seen in people. Therefore, people should realize how sacred, how pure and ideal the human life is. In this context that it is said, “Jantoonam nara janma durlabham”, meaning, of all the types of living beings it is very difficult and rare to be born as a human being.   2. Man is important and not money Your browser does not support the audio element. 1996-11-22 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description Today’s man, whatever he is listening or seeing, he does it out of selfishness and self interest. He loves the world because of his own selfish interests , he doesn’t love the world for the sake of the world. He loves a particular person not for the person’s sake, but for his own sake. If you enquire this way, you will find selfishness, selfishness and only selfishness. It is necessary to be selfish, but it should be within limits.   4. Born as a human behave like one

His Life

Divine Words of wisdom by Sathya Sai Baba – On HIS Life 1. Swami always look for your feelings; Different examples from Mythology Your browser does not support the audio element. 1996-07-31 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description More than the Vedas, it is very essential to understand the teachings of Vedanta. The path of love is much easier than the practice of soft repetition of the Name (japa), meditation, yoga, etc. God is not interested in knowing how many bags of rice and how many saris you distributed to the poor. You may send this list of items to the income tax department. What I am interested in is only your feelings. Even if you perform a small act of charity, I see your feelings behind it. I am not interested in the number of saris and bags of rice that you distribute. Swami values only quality. Rukmini could earn the grace of Krishna by offering only a leaf of tulasi. Kuchela could earn the grace and love of Krishna by offering Him a fistful of beaten rice. What did Draupadi do when she had to feed Sage Durvasa and his one thousand disciples when she had nothing with her? She offered a grain of rice left in the cooking pot to Krishna and prayed to Him, “You are our only refuge.” When Krishna put that grain of rice in His mouth, immediately the hunger of Durvasa and his disciples was satiated. In the times of every Avatar, there are such instances of devotees earning the infinite grace of the Lord by making small offerings with devotion and love. Therefore, get rid of the impurity of your mind. Destroy your ego. Learn to make offerings of love. Only then will you have the good fortune of experiencing Bliss (Ananda). 2.Don’t try to understand Me, experience Me Your browser does not support the audio element. 1987-10-02 Document Download Audio Social Share Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Description In-spite of listening to several discourses, despite spending long spells of time in participating spiritual workshops, and even after listening to divine discourses for over 30, 40, or even 50 years, mindset remains the same! With miscellaneous content collated from newspapers, magazines and some books, people are filling their brain space but not attempting at filling their hearts with love. They are merely listening but not putting efforts to taste the bliss in it. You have been living in the ashram premises for several years. If you introspect within yourself, you will realize that there has been no change whatsoever that has taken place in your mindset! What is the reason? If you take a rounded pebble (gundu) and put it in water, you will notice that not a tiny drop of water makes its way into the pebble because it is impervious. Same is the case here. In a hard-stone hearted person, how can sacred love soak into his heart! 4. Divine alone has will power
