Shri Sathya Sai Baba Concepts of Bal Vikas Easwaramma Day Celebrations

Easwaramma Day Celebrations, At Dharmakshetra, Mumbai On 6th May, 2010 Easwaramma Day Celebrations, At Dharmakshetra, Mumbai On 6th May, 2010 Another most auspicious Thursday morning dawned at Dharmakshetra, the abode of our beloved Swami in Mumbai, with Suprabatham and Nagarsankeertan charging the Mandir and its surroundings, rendered by earnest devotees. But what made this morning more significant was that it was Easwaramma Day, a day dedicated to Bhagawan’s mother. Always known for her love for children, this day was aptly celebrated by children to honour her and all mothers. Sri Sathya Sai Bal Vikas children dressed in white, accompanied by enthusiastic parents and Gurus, gathered at around 6.15 am in the morning at Shanti Deep where a portrait of Mother Easwaramma too adorned the Sanctum Sanctorum of our Lord. The session started with Bhajans being sung with gusto, by the Sri Sathya Sai Bal Vikas children, taking on the names of Vinayaka, Guru, Vitthala, Shiva, something that would have surely pleased the Chosen Mother. This was followed by a pledge taken by all the Sri Sathya Sai Bal Vikas children before their parents in the Omnipresence of Bhagawan with a fervent prayer to the Lord to help them lead a noble life imbibing the highest spiritual lessons taught through Sri Sathya Sai Bal Vikas. Master Parth, a group II Bal Vikas student, reverentially conducted the Pledge Taking ceremony with enthusiasm and a deep sense of fervour, kneeling before his mother while the other children followed in a similar manner repeating the words of the pledge after him. The Pledge with its relevant pauses reads as under : On this/ most auspicious/ Easwaramma Day/ I / as a student of /Shri Sathya Sai Bal Vikas/, do hereby pray/ in the omnipresence/ of Bhagwan Baba/ to love and serve my Mother/ in the following ways:- To always obey/ respect and serve my Mother /as a living God/ who gave me birth/ and is bringing me up with affection and care/. Help me/ to make my Parents happy/ by behaving properly/ at all times/ both at home and outside/Further/ to love and respect my Motherland Bharat/ to the best of my ability/ and capacity /so as to enable me/ to put into practice /that there is only one caste / that is the caste of Humanity/ and thus broaden my heart/ to lovingly embrace/ the whole Mankind /as one family/In this manner/ I dedicate myself/ to follow the ideals of/ Bhagwan Shri Sathya Sai Baba/ about serving my Mother/ and thereby contributing my mite /to the peace/, progress and prosperity/ of Mankind/ Sai ram. The mothers and Gurus then blessed the children praying to the Lord and the Divine Mother to always shower their Grace and Blessings on all the children. The short morning session concluded with the chants of ‘Twameva Matacha Pita Twameva’, thus surrendering to Him to be our Ultimate Mother, Father, Preceptor and All. The gathering dispersed but not before Mangala Aarti was performed to the Divine Mother and Bhagawan by one and all present.

Shri Sathya Sai Baba Concepts of Bal Vikas Experiencing Transformation

“Experiencing Transformation” Mrs. Sreelaja RaoTamil Nadu Aum Sri Sai Ram Humble Pranams at the Lotus feet. Sairam! My son, G. Deepak, was diagnosed as dyslexic with learning disability and hyperactive disorder at the age of 4 years. As parents we had a tough time handling his studies and clumsy daily activities, since he was abnormally lacking time consciousness. When he was in 4th standard he was sent to the nearby Bal Vikas class. In the beginning he never listened in the class and found narrating even small stories very cumbersome. He was cajoled and literally pushed to attend the Bal Vikas class every Sunday. Slowly, with the constant encouragement of the Bal Vikas guru, he gained interest in going to Bal Vikas on every Sundays, and started chanting slokas though it was difficult for him to write. As days passed, guru started giving him small assignments for which he started writing small sentences on his own in his Bal Vikas note. This was a real turning point in his life. As he became 13-14 years his attitudinal change was more pronounced in a way that he started considering all his hidden difficulties as a challenge and found solace in praying to Swami during crisis. The clarity in his thoughts could be seen on his face. Even though the difficulty in studies persisted, his character changed a lot from a moody, sad and angry child to a bright, loving, helpful and sociable teenager. He passed 10th standard from CBSE Board with a 63% mark, a thing which we parents never imagined about a child who could not even write a sentence within a time span of 30 minutes. He is now 19 years old. He has passed 12th standard state board and has joined Engineering College. He is very kind hearted and goes to any extent in helping elders and sick people. He is very lovable and an acceptable person in the neighborhood. He will be there in all the social activities where his help is needed. He respects elders and finds no ego in accepting mistakes. From my heart I can say that these good traits and values which Deepak has acquired are attributable to the acceptance and encouragement he got from the Bal Vikas class. I owe this drastic change in his life to Sathya Sai Bal Vikas in full and to the Bal Vikas gurus in particular. I humbly salute my Lord Sai for all Swami has done to my boy. Shri Sathya Sai Baba Concepts of Bal Vikas Life Is A Challenge Meet It

Life Is A Challenge Meet It Mr. Sai Krishna IyerMaharashtra Aum Sri Sai Ram In life we always come across many challenges. Challenges need not be facing a technical problem or a solving a puzzle. It could be anyinstance in our day to day life! Be it facing interviews for job seekers.Be it writing the exams, learning a new subject or a programminglanguage for studentsBe it discovering new things, proposing a new theory for researchers.Be it improving one’s productivity for a working professional.Be it health related or consumer goods related for a common man.Be it knowing the unknown. Whatever it may be,each moment in this competitive world is becoming a challenge or bigtask which has to be dealt with care.So one should develop the necessary skills and ability, to face anykind of challenge with brave heart and excel in lifeWe should reach a level to challenge the challenge’s. Sooner or later everyone regardless of age, gender, position, nationality, economic status, race or religion experiences some formof adversity or trouble. It is as much a part of life as every othercircumstance you will ever experience. Life is a neutral concept. Itdoesn’t pick on certain people and shower others with only blessings. Some people could look at others and say, “Those people are wealthy; I’ll bet they have never failed or felt despair or discouragement.” Ihave news for you. No one is exempt from life’s trials and tribulations! Life isnothing more than the ebb and flow of circumstances and conditions.Yes, some people may seem to get more than their share of bad timeswhile others seem to get better times or circumstances than theydeserve. But be careful not to judge. You can’t always control what comes into your life but you can, if youchoose, to always control how you respond to it or act because of it. Adversity, problems and failure, no one wants them but everyone getsthem. How you choose to see them or define them will have a great dealto do with how they impact your life. If you fear failure and choosenot to stretch, try, experiment or reach because of its consequences, then the fear of failure now rules your life. If you fail and learn, then you are in charge of your life and its outcomes. I was fortunatethat my parents let me fail often and hard when I was growing up. As aresult I have never seen failure as final but a part of a longer lifeprocess. I learned to fail often so I could succeed sooner. One of mymentors and heroes Norman Vincent Peal always said, “Problems are goodas long as you learn from them.” No one likes the sting of discouragement or despair. I’ve been there, many times but I can tell you that there is always learning in each oflife’s situations if you will only stop seeing yourself as a victimand find the lessons and learn from them. If you are discouraged, troubled or afraid I hope you find some answers or solace in the wordsthat follow.”No matter what is going on or how difficult times may seem, useyour pain, discouragement, loneliness and despair to get in touch withwho you are, what you believe and your creative potential. Get busy.” I’ve been fortunate that my path through life has been guidedby many people who have helped me see the light instead of thedarkness, the joy rather than the sorrow and the blessings and not thesadness.I’ve been told by many of my friends that I have spent far toomuch time in the valleys of life rather than on the mountaintops. Myanswer to all of these people is simple – my time in the valleys has helped weather life storms and difficult times as well as taught menot to become arrogant when I did get to view life from the top of themountain. But more than this they helped write with compassion, humility and courage. No one escapes this life without failures. I have had them. Youhave had them. Everyone has had them. The only way to avoid failure isto spend the rest of your life in some log cabin in the woods awayfrom all human contact, expectations and the need for achievement. Iknow of no one who has reached adulthood who has not had some form ofadversity or failure in their life. Neither do you. Why then are we so afraid to fail? Sai Krishna Iyer

Shri Sathya Sai Baba Past Students March 2011

Past Students Living Life with Sai- 7th November, 2010 The alumni of the Sri Sathya Sai Balvikas gathered at the Lotus feet of Bhagawan to renew their bond with Mother Sai on 7th November, a red letter day in the annals of the Sri Sathya Sai Balvikas movement. “The ideal of the Sri Sathya Sai Bal Vikas is to raise a generation of boys and girls who have a clean and clear conscience. Sri Sathya Sai Bal Vikas is the primary basis of the great movement to restore Dharma in the world. The young minds of children are not polluted and hence they can be led into good ways of living, simplicity, humility and discipline.”, instructed Bhagawan in 1969 to the members of Sri Sathya Sai Mahila Vibhag which was founded the previous year. The Sri Sathya Sai Balvikas movement is the first stone laid by Bhagawan in His institutionalised methodology of Educare. As time passed by, slowly and steadily the Sri Sathya Sai Bal Vikas Programme designed by Bhagawan for children between 6 years to 14 years of age, in three groups, took shape and with the formation and expansion of Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation, Sri Sathya Sai Bal Vikas spread far and wide. Training modules were developed, research went in deeper, and with Bhagawan’s active and continuous guidance,Sri Sathya Sai Bal Vikas was crystallized into a 9 year non-formal education system for children enhancing their learning to become role models in character and also in academic performance. Over 2000 members of the alumni of Sri Sathya Sai Bal Vikas of this unique programme had assembled in Sai Kulwant Hall to pay their obeisance and express their gratitude to their Lord. Bhagawan arrived for Darshan at 1810 hrs by car on this rainy evening. As the fragrance of nostalgia filled the air, it was a trip down memory lane for all. And what a touching scene indeed it was to witness their hearts’ outpouring! The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp by the Divine hands, followed by a melodious prayer song seeking strength and devotion to ever be at His Lotus Feet and abide by His teachings. Two alumni, Dr. Unnikrishnan from Kerala and Smt. Gunjan Sahni from UP spoke about the impact of the Sri Sathya Sai Balvikas programme in their lives.Dr. Unnikrishnan revealed that he understood what it was to be a doctor when he got the opportunity to do seva at the Sathya Sai Clinic. He further added that the Sri Sathya Sai Balvikas programme sowed the seeds of love and compassion in his heart which helped him to empathise with the needs of the patients, facilitating the humanising of ‘Medicare’. Sister Gunjan Sahni elucidated on how at every step of her life, the values imbibed in her balvikas days aided in strengthening the will and sharpening the power of discrimination , thus enabling her to maintain a fine balance. Justice V. Ramasubramanian, a judge of the Chennai Hight Court ,a product of the first batch of Balvikas paid obeisance to Bhagawan. Each of the speakers expressed and explained the impact that the Balvikas training has had on their lives. Often choking back tears of emotion they expressed their gratitude to their Guru and Lord, Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Next it was the turn of nine gems – balvikas students who had excelled in their lives – to be presented before Bhagawan, reiterating the fact that Balvikas results in blossoming of one’s personality bringing about holistic development. On this occasion, Bhagawan also blessed the compilation of articles by the Balvikas Alumni from all over India entitled ” Living Life with Sai, Sai Hi Hai Jeevan”. The crescendo of the programme was the performance of the balvikas students of the new generation. “Little Champs” brought the curtain down with their musical which touched the chord of every heart. They serenaded Mother Sai with the rendering of “Twameva mata cha pita twameva” in sanskrit, telugu and hindi and two soulful offerings of “Suraj ki kirne” and “Sai Maa”. The accompanying instrumentalists on the violin, mridangam, ghatam and ganjeera engaged in a delightful jugalbandi that had a professional fragrance. Bhagawan blessed the gathering and apprised the children of His satisfaction with their performance. Bhagawan specially appreciated the child who played the violin. The programme concluded with Arati, but not before enthusing all of ushering in the Sai Era through the medium of Sri Sathya Sai BalVikas – the first step in the Educare mission of Bhagawan Baba.

Aims of Bal Vikas were clearly defined as Vikas or Blossoming in respect ofDeha Vikas (Physical Development or Blossoming of Body)Mano Vikas (Mental Development or Blossoming of Mind)Buddhi Vikas (Development or Blossoming of Intellect)Bhava Vikas (Development or Blossoming of qualities of Heart)Atma Vikas (Development or Blossoming of Spirit) 1971 First Issue of magazine in the name of ‘Sri Sathya Sai Bala Vikas’ released. 1973 The Second All India Conference for Teachers was conducted at Rajahmundry, AP. Bhagavan directed that an All India Training Course be organized to enhance the quality and to bring in uniformity in Bal Vikas Education. A Three stage curriculum was developed here. 1975 The Third Conference was held in Prasanthi Nilayam. Bhagavan stressed upon personal Sadhana for Gurus leading to synchronization between one’s thought, word and deed. Shri Sathya Sai Baba Concepts of Bal Vikas Expansion

Expansion Swamy said, “Children are the crops growing in the fields, to yield the harvest on which the nation has to sustain itself. They are the pillars on which the future of the nation is built. They are the roots of the national tree, which has to give the fruits of Work, Worship and Wisdom to the next generations.”(10-07-1974). Following the promptings of Bhagavan, the mothers gradually changed their attitudes from ‘my children‘ to ‘our children‘ treading the path shown by Bhagavan in the journey of ‘From I to We’ and started Bal Vikas Classes in the villages and in the neighbourhood and started seeing mankind beyond the narrow corridors of home, caste, colour, creed and religion. It was in 1974 that Bhagavan gave a new identity to the teachers of Bal Vikas as ‘Gurus’. It was the beginning of the expansion of Bal Vikas. Devotees took up the clarion call of Bhagavan and in one year by 1975, the number of Trained Gurus rose to 3,500 and little over 50,000 children were encouraged to join Bal Vikas. It was also decided to make Easwaramma Day Celebrations as an integral part of the Bal Vikas Programme. In the early 1970s a Bal Vikas programme was begun in the United Kingdom. In 1977, Swami’s devotees started Bal Vikas in United States of America. The Bal Vikas programme began to spread rapidly to other countries all over the world.. and in 1981, a conference for the overseas teachers was held in Prasanthi Nilayam. It was in this conference, the concept of Education in Human Values was introduced. In 1983, the 15th anniversary of Bal Vikas was held in Prasanthi Nilayam. In 1995 at the Sixth World Conference, in order to emphasise the Universality of the Bal Vikas Programme, it was decided to change the name to Sai Spiritual Education (SSE) in countries outside of India. Bal Vikas classes are designed for children whose parents are primarily devotees of Bhagavan. The core content relates to the Five Universal Human Values of Truth, Right Action, Peace, Love and Non-Violence. In the early 1980s a modification of the Bal Vikas programme was developed for children whose parents were not devotees of Baba. It was given the name Sathya Sai Education in Human Values. It promotes Character development and seeks to instill in the students, a respect and reverence for nature and for the rights of others.
